Review: December 6, 2021 Completion: November 15, 2021

Had we to start over, looking for a new roof again, we would go with a high quality composite material. This was way more expensive and we won’t live long enough to make the investment worthwhile. Yes, it will increase the resale value, but I doubt it will be enough to offset the cost differential. Also, now there is no way for me to walk on this extremely steep and slippery metal roof. Cleaning the gutters on the dormers is too dangerous and I have been unable to find anyone willing to climb on a metal roof. My internet communication antenna is at the highest point of the roof and should it ever require service I am concerned of my service provider’s ability to access it. And yes, it has to be at the highest point to “see” the transceiver at the service provider’s end. The positive aspects are its appearance, fire resistance, and long life.

Review: June 15, 2021 Completion: September 24, 2020

I looked into replacing my roof and found that with modern composite shingles I will end end replacing it numerous times in my lifetime. With Interlock it's one and done. The roof I got was red aluminum in a slate style and it looks great; best roof in my neighborhood, hands down. In fact it's fun to see cars driving by and notice the driver staring at the new roof. Also, I've received numerous compliments from passersby about how great the roof looks. Other points are that the install was quick and skillful and needless to say, I have no leaks. I picked up a significant number of old shingle refuse, flashing remnants, and many aluminum nails around our entire property and in our gutters. A more thorough cleaning would have been preferred.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Cherry Grove

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Cherry Grove, Oregon. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Cherry Grove.

Will a metal roof handle Cherry Grove's heavy rainfall without leaking?

Yes—the four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed water as effectively as any roofing system, and the design actually outperforms traditional materials in high-moisture climates. Cherry Grove receives about 1208 mm of annual rainfall, often in sustained patterns rather than intense storms. The seams lock together mechanically, eliminating the adhesive degradation that weakens asphalt shingles over time. Combined with proper underlayment and installation to ICC-ES ESR-1790 standards, Interlock metal roofing has been installed successfully from coastal salt-air regions to alpine areas—environments far more severe than the Pacific Northwest's wet season.

Can Interlock metal roofing survive Cherry Grove's winter wind gusts?

Absolutely. The four-way interlocking panel design and 120 mph wind warranty directly address the region's typical gusts up to 120 km/h (75 mph), with occasional stronger events. When installed to specification, the mechanical lock-together system distributes wind load across the entire roof plane rather than relying on fasteners or adhesive at isolated points. This engineering approach means your roof stays secure even during the variable windstorms that sweep through Washington County in winter months, without requiring special reinforcement or additional cost.

Does Interlock metal roofing have a hail rating, and could it lower my insurance?

Yes. Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. While Cherry Grove's climate produces moderate hail risk compared to inland regions, the Class 4 rating is recognized by many insurers as a risk reduction. Contact your agent with the UL 2218 documentation; some carriers offer premium reductions for Class 4 roofs. This durability also means you avoid the repeated claim cycles that asphalt roofs trigger, keeping your insurance history cleaner over the roof's 50+ year lifespan.

Will an aluminum metal roof rust in Oregon's wet climate?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and degrades. Instead, aluminum develops a self-healing oxide layer that actually protects the metal beneath. In Cherry Grove's wet climate with about 37 freeze-thaw cycles annually, this is a genuine advantage: traditional steel roofing requires constant monitoring for rust damage, while the 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy used in Interlock panels remains stable through wet winters and salt-adjacent environments. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating (warranted 30 years) adds an additional protective layer, making long-term corrosion virtually non-existent compared to steel alternatives.

Is a metal roof heavy enough to need structural reinforcement on my house?

No. The Mediterranean Tile profile weighs approximately 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—making it one of the lightest roofing materials available. Even the heavier Shake profile at 0.58 lb/sq ft is negligible compared to traditional tile. This lightweight character means most homes in Cherry Grove can accommodate metal roofing over their existing roof structure without expensive framing upgrades. Interlock can often install directly over your current asphalt shingles, saving labor costs and landfill space while eliminating the structural engineering consultations that heavy slate or tile would require.

Does a metal roof help reduce cooling costs in summer?

Yes, when specified in energy-efficient colors. Interlock's reflective coatings achieve initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning the roof reflects rather than absorbs summer heat. Cherry Grove receives about 3033 sunshine hours annually—enough to make reflective properties meaningful during clear-sky periods. While the Pacific Northwest's cooling season is shorter than southern regions, the cumulative savings across spring and early fall add up, particularly if you have upper-floor rooms or attic space. The Cool Roof Rating Council rating ensures the energy claims are third-party verified, not marketing estimates.

How much maintenance does a metal roof actually require?

Minimal compared to traditional roofing. Unlike asphalt shingles, which degrade progressively and require inspections after storms, or wood shakes, which split and curl in freeze-thaw cycles like Cherry Grove's 37 annual freeze-thaw days, Interlock aluminum doesn't crack, rot, or lose impact resistance over time. The CALGreen-verified design reduces maintenance obligations to occasional debris clearing—no algae treatments, no sealant reapplication, no seasonal repairs. The 30-year coating warranty covers chalking and fading, so your roof's appearance and water-shedding capability remain stable without intervention, making it the last roof you'll buy for your home.

What does Interlock's lifetime warranty actually cover?

The Guardian warranty is a nonprorated lifetime limited material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance across the roof's full life. It's also one-time transferable to the next owner, who receives coverage for 50 years from completion. This structure reflects Interlock's confidence in its product: in a typical Cherry Grove home's ownership cycle (often 20–30 years), you won't face the progressive failures—shingle loss, wood decay, tile fracture—that trigger repair costs on traditional roofs. The transferable term also protects resale value by assuring future buyers their investment is secured.

Is aluminum roofing really more sustainable than asphalt?

Yes, measurably. Interlock panels are approximately 95% recyclable at end of life, and aluminum retains its properties through multiple recycling cycles indefinitely. In contrast, each asphalt roof tear-off—typically every 15–25 years—sends 10–20 tons to landfill per home. Over Cherry Grove's wet climate, where rainfall accelerates asphalt degradation, a typical homeowner might replace shingles 2–3 times in 50 years. One Interlock roof instead eliminates those landfill contributions entirely and, when eventually recycled, returns to feedstock for new products. This closed-loop approach aligns with CALGreen sustainability standards and reduces your home's lifecycle environmental footprint compared to the asphalt tear-off cycle.

Is metal roofing safer than asphalt in a wildfire or fire event?

Metal roofing is inherently fire-safer because aluminum is non-combustible. Interlock offers Class A fire classification availability—the highest rating—meaning the roof itself cannot ignite or spread flame, unlike asphalt shingles, which are petroleum-based and flammable. While Cherry Grove's Pacific Northwest location has lower wildfire risk than interior Oregon, Class A rating provides peace of mind and may qualify you for insurance discounts or premium reductions. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation (reissued 2025) confirms compliance with IBC/IRC fire safety codes, ensuring your metal roof meets or exceeds all fire-safety requirements for residential construction in Washington County.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Cherry Grove’s climate?

Yes. Cherry Grove averages about 29 cm of snow, 1208 mm of rain, roughly 37 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 120 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
