I looked into replacing my roof and found that with modern composite shingles I will end end replacing it numerous times in my lifetime. With Interlock it's one and done. The roof I got was red aluminum in a slate style and it looks great; best roof in my neighborhood, hands down. In fact it's fun to see cars driving by and notice the driver staring at the new roof. Also, I've received numerous compliments from passersby about how great the roof looks. Other points are that the install was quick and skillful and needless to say, I have no leaks. Review: February 29, 2016 Completion: August 21, 2015

I was initially apprehensive about the higher upfront cost of Interlock when compared to a basic composite shingle replacement, but three factors swayed me to give Interlock my business. First, the engineering behind the product is quite impressive. By that, I mean the way the panels interlock to form a tight, durable roof. Second, the roof looks great and will look the same for decades. Third, it’s a more environmentally sound solution by keeping my home cooler in the summer and also by being the last roof replacement the house will need. I have to say the installation crew was top-notch. They completed the job from tear-off to done in just over two days and left the gutters and yard cleaner than they found them. Admittedly my roof is small and fairly simple but to knock it out in two days during the triple-digit heat earned them my respect. All in all, I’d say I’m very happy with my new roof and the overall experience of working with Interlock.

Review: February 3, 2016 Completion: January 8, 2016

Please consider this my letter of testimony regarding the installation of my beautiful Musket Grey Slate roof! From the beginning of this “roof project”, all of my conversations with Meg and Claudette were friendly and my questions were answered by these pleasant and knowledgeable ladies. Since I had already seen a presentation with a neighbor, Mike Rasmussen was able to save us both some time as I was very ready to get my leaky roof replaced! He thoroughly explained how the aluminum fits together and assured me the trained installers really did know what they were doing! Rolland called to let me know when he would be delivering the materials. He was right on time – even with snow and icy roads to contend with! He very neatly placed boxed materials next to the garage and then covered everything with a tarp to keep it dry. I was concerned with his and the installers’ safety during those unusual winter weather conditions but both Rolland and Peter seemed to take it in stride. Peter was very efficient and explained how things worked and answered my questions that I didn’t know I had until I watched how fast yet carefully he worked. Mike was right – Peter was quick and there was very little wasted material when he had completed everything! As it turned out, Peter was the only installer and he wasted NO TIME removing the chimney, getting my skylight replaced and the roof was done in only two days!! It was unusually COLD in Oregon those days; January 7th and 8th. He worked well into the dark evening hours on both nights, which I thought was above and beyond the call of duty. He carefully cleaned up after himself before he left. As you see, I am very impressed with my new roof. At one point, I was concerned that the aluminum may be “noisy”, however, with the amount of hard rain we have had, there is no more noise than there was with my old shingle roof. Again, I am impressed. My son is thrilled that he will never have to get up and toss laundry soap around on the roof to kill the moss! Just today, a gentleman stopped to chat about my roof as he’d noticed the sign in my yard. I happened to be outside for a few minutes and was happy to share my very pleasant experience with him. Neighbors have stopped to look at the sign and check out the roof on their walks. Enclosed are pictures of my “roof project”. Strangers would not know there ever was a chimney on the house. Peter was very careful removing the bricks which I appreciated since the new Leaf Guard system was recently installed. I thank you all for your help with updating my house. Please feel free to call me at 503-xxx-xxxx if you would like further comments.

Fast response and excellent work. The technician drop by within couple of days, found the cause, and provided quote. The price was reasonable for the work scope. They were able to secure the work slot as soon as the raining season was over and kept me informed on the schedule. In addition, they inspected remaining roof as well. Note: the leak was due to gutter pulling the corner flashing. The 10+ year Interlock roof tile remained good.

Interlock handled our roofing project with skill and expertise. Many other local roofers ran away from even bidding the job due to the complexity of our roof line. Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in North Plains

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in North Plains, Oregon. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in North Plains.

Why won't my metal roof rust like steel roofing can, especially in Oregon's wet climate?

Aluminum is naturally rust-proof because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and causes rust. Instead, aluminum develops a thin, invisible oxide layer that actually heals itself when scratched, so even North Plains's 1,208 mm of annual rain can't trigger the deterioration you'd see with steel. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209), plus a Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both sides of every panel. That double-sided coating is especially valuable in damp climates with freeze-thaw cycles like ours—about 37 per year here—because water can't creep underneath and cause corrosion from the back.

Will a metal roof hold up to North Plains wind and ice loads in winter?

Your roof stays locked down with four-way interlocking aluminum panels and a warranty covering wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h)—well above the gusts North Plains typically experiences, which average about 16 km/h with peaks around 120 km/h. The four-way interlock means each panel is mechanically fastened on all sides, so snow load and wind work together without lifting edges. With about 29 cm of snow per year and roughly 37 freeze-thaw days annually, the lightweight aluminum (Slate profile at just 0.41 lb/sq ft) won't sag or crack as wood or asphalt can, and ice won't create the stress fractures common in brittle materials.

Does heavy rain in Oregon cause leaks around the seams of a metal roof?

Heavy rainfall doesn't penetrate because each panel interlocks on four sides, creating a overlapped, sealed barrier that sheds water the way nature intended. North Plains averages 1,208 mm of rain per year—roughly the Pacific Northwest's typical load—and Interlock's design channeling water downslope means standing water never accumulates in valleys or seams the way it can with flat-seam metal or asphalt. The panels are backed by a solid deck and underlayment, turning your roof into a continuous shield. Installation over your existing roof is standard practice here, and that adds another moisture barrier beneath the metal panels.

Can a metal roof actually lower my cooling costs with North Plains's 3,000+ sunshine hours per year?

Yes, if you choose an energy-efficient color with high solar reflectance—up to 0.55 in Aged Copper Penny—you'll reflect heat that dark asphalt absorbs and re-radiates into your attic. North Plains averages about 3,033 sunshine hours annually and a mean temperature of 11.2°C, so summer peak loads are moderate; however, reflective aluminum still outperforms asphalt on the hottest days and across the whole year. energy-efficiency colors carry thermal emissivity of 0.84, which means they also radiate absorbed heat efficiently. The Cool Roof Rating Council rating quantifies this measurable energy benefit, making your roof work with passive cooling rather than against it.

Will my homeowner's insurance cover hail damage, and does my metal roof qualify for discounts?

Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. That durability often qualifies for insurance discounts because underwriters recognize the lower claim frequency on Class 4 roofs compared to asphalt. You'll want to contact your insurer directly with the product spec sheet and UL 2218 Class 4 certification to confirm your region's discount eligibility. Since North Plains experiences occasional severe weather with 120 km/h wind gusts, the combination of impact and wind resistance makes metal roofing a lower-risk asset in your insurer's eyes.

Do I need to reinforce my roof frame to support metal tile, or is it light enough to install over my existing roof?

No reinforcement is needed. The Mediterranean Tile profile weighs just 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so your existing frame can handle it without structural upgrades. You can install it directly over asphalt shingles, wood shake, or whatever's already up there, saving the cost and mess of a complete tear-off. That lightweight advantage matters in North Plains where about 29 cm of snow and roughly 37 freeze-thaw cycles per year place stress on roof framing; aluminum won't accumulate ice the way heavier materials do, and it flexes slightly under load rather than cracking like brittle tile. You're buying a last roof that your home's current structure can support as-is.

How long will the roof last, and what does the warranty actually cover if I sell my house?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for you (the original owner), covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. When you sell, the warranty transfers once to the next owner for a guaranteed 50-year term from completion. No prorated decline means you're protected for life, not watching coverage shrink each year. That's possible because aluminum doesn't rust, the Alunar 70% PVDF coating is warrantied 30 years against chalking and fading, and the ICC-ES evaluation (ESR-1790, reissued 2025) confirms the product meets code for decades. In North Plains's freeze-thaw climate, that transferability makes your roof a genuine selling feature.

What's the real maintenance difference between a metal roof and asphalt or wood shakes over time?

A metal roof is virtually maintenance-free; asphalt shingles need moss treatment every few years in Oregon's damp climate, wood shakes develop rot and splits (especially with 37 annual freeze-thaw days and 1,208 mm rainfall), and tile requires mortar repointing. Aluminum doesn't rot, split, or curl, so you're not climbing a ladder seasonally. The Alunar coating self-heals when scratched, and the CALGreen-verified design reduces maintenance burden compared to asphalt. Over a 30-year span in North Plains's wet, cold environment, you'll spend far less on repairs, replacements, and safety equipment for a metal roof. No gutters clogged with asphalt granules or shingles cupping from moisture cycling either.

Is aluminum roofing really more environmentally responsible than replacing my asphalt roof again in 20 years?

Yes. Aluminum is roughly 95% recyclable and ends the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle entirely. When Interlock reaches end-of-life, almost all of it recovers value as scrap aluminum; asphalt shingles—millions of tons annually in North America—don't decompose and aren't economical to recycle, so they sit in landfills. In North Plains, where rainfall and freeze-thaw (about 37 cycles yearly) accelerate asphalt degradation, you're likely to reroof every 15–25 years with traditional materials. A single aluminum installation lasts your lifetime and transfers to the next owner for 50 years, eliminating 1–2 tear-offs per homeowner. That's the sustainability story: one roof, no landfill.

How long does installation take, and what's the process for putting a metal roof over my existing shingles?

Installation typically takes 3–5 business days depending on roof size and complexity. Your existing asphalt or wood shingles stay in place; the installer inspects for any soft decking, installs metal flashing and underlayment, then fastens Interlock panels over the top. Since North Plains averages 3,033 sunshine hours per year and gusts around 120 km/h that can complicate ladder work, scheduling during drier weeks matters. Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served the region since 1997, so local installers know how to sequence work around seasonal weather. You avoid the disposal cost and disruption of a full tear-off, and the extra insulation layer underneath improves energy performance. The job starts and finishes faster than you'd expect.
