Review: October 14, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.

Review: August 23, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Grand Coulee

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Grand Coulee, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Grand Coulee.

How does a metal roof handle Grand Coulee's 85 cm of annual snow?

Metal roofs shed snow effectively because of their smooth, interlocked panel design and low thermal mass—snow doesn't bond to aluminum the way it does to asphalt. Grand Coulee experiences about 81 freeze-thaw cycles per year, which makes this durability critical: each thaw-refreeze cycle can split asphalt shingles or wooden shakes, but Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels move and flex without cracking. The panels are warranted for wind gusts up to 120 mph, so they hold firm when snow loads shift. Snow guards are available if you want to manage slide-off strategically. The key difference: asphalt becomes brittle in freeze-thaw; aluminum's oxide layer simply renews itself with no loss of integrity.

Why do freeze-thaw cycles in Washington matter for roofing choice?

Grand Coulee averages 81 freeze-thaw days annually—meaning water that enters a roof's cracks expands when it freezes, splitting shingles or rotting wood. Aluminum roofing avoids this trap entirely because the roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) cannot rot, split, or crack from ice pressure. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating applied to both sides of every panel is warranted 30 years against failure, protecting the underlying metal from moisture infiltration. With annual rainfall of about 262 mm plus 85 cm of snow, water management is non-negotiable. Interlock panels interlock four ways, so water sheds before it can pool and refreeze—a structural advantage asphalt shingles simply cannot match.

Can aluminum roofing rust in Washington's wet climate?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the chemical element that oxidizes in water. Instead, aluminum develops a self-healing oxide layer that naturally repairs itself when scratched or damaged, even in wet climates. This is why Interlock panels have been successfully installed from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station since 1998. Grand Coulee receives about 262 mm of rain and 85 cm of snow annually, but the Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (applied to both sides) provides an extra 30-year-warranted barrier against weathering. If you've heard that steel metal roofs can rust, that's the key difference: steel requires constant maintenance; aluminum is maintenance-free by chemistry, not just design. The lifetime limited warranty explicitly covers rusting—because it won't happen.

Does Interlock hold up to Grand Coulee's wind gusts?

Yes. Grand Coulee's typical wind gusts reach about 93 km/h, and Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist sustained winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h)—a 2.1× safety margin over local conditions. The interlocking design means each panel locks to its neighbors on all four sides, distributing wind load across the entire roof rather than relying on fasteners alone. This redundancy is why UL wind ratings matter: the panels don't just sit flat—they're mechanically bound. With about 81 freeze-thaw cycles per year, repeated seasonal stress on fasteners can cause traditional shingles to lift; the interlocking geometry prevents that failure mode entirely. When combined with a competent installation, this design explains why the warranty covers wind uplift at 120 mph.

Will Interlock metal roofing reduce my homeowner's insurance in hail country?

Interlock carries the highest impact rating available: UL 2218 Class 4, which covers hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Some insurers offer discounts for Class 4 rated roofs because the risk of claim payouts is demonstrably lower. Contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 certification to inquire about a premium reduction—savings vary by carrier and location. Hail events aren't implied by Grand Coulee's 10-year climate data, but the underlying value is clear: the aluminum alloy doesn't lose impact resistance over the roof's life (the warranty explicitly covers this), whereas asphalt shingles become brittle and puncture-prone after 10–15 years. If a hail event does occur, aluminum's dent recovery and structural integrity—especially the roofing-grade 3105-H24 alloy—often result in no insurance claim at all.

Can my home's frame support a metal roof, or do I need structural reinforcement?

No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock metal roofing is extraordinarily light—the Mediterranean Tile profile installs at approximately 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it roughly 96% lighter than clay or concrete tile. By comparison, asphalt shingles weigh about 2–3 lb/sq ft, so metal is lighter than the roofing you're replacing. This weight advantage means Interlock installs directly over most existing roofs without additional framing, joists, or load-bearing upgrades. With 85 cm of snow loading annually in Grand Coulee, your home's structure is already engineered for winter weight; the metal roof adds negligible load in comparison. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms compliance with IBC/IRC codes for residential loads, so installation is straightforward and budget-friendly—you save the cost of structural work that competing materials might require.

How much maintenance does an Interlock metal roof need in Washington?

Virtually none. Aluminum cannot rot or rust, so there's no wood decay, no fungal growth, and no corrosion to address—even with Grand Coulee's 262 mm annual rainfall and 85 cm of snow. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating is self-protecting and warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214/D2244 measured), so repainting is unnecessary. Gutters will need occasional cleaning like any roof, but the panels themselves require no sealing, repair, or replacement of individual pieces. Asphalt shingles require regular inspections, granule loss monitoring, and repairs by year 10–15; wood shakes need treatment and re-nailing; concrete tile cracks from freeze-thaw and leaks. Interlock's design and material eliminate all of those failure modes. The CALGreen standard verifies this reduced-maintenance profile, making it an honest choice if your goal is a roof you can forget about.

What's the actual lifespan and warranty of Interlock roofing?

The Guardian Warranty covers your roof for life and transfers once, giving the next owner 50 years of coverage from completion. This is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty—meaning a defect in year 25 is treated the same as year 5. It covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. Combined with Interlock's proven installation record since 1998 and the roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy that won't degrade from Grand Coulee's 81 annual freeze-thaw cycles, you're buying the last roof you'll install. Asphalt typically lasts 15–20 years and contributes to landfill; wood shakes last 20–30 years but require ongoing maintenance; concrete tile cracks within 10 years in freeze-thaw climates. Over 50+ years, metal roofing is a single purchase, not a cycle of replacements and repairs.

Do reflective metal roofs actually save on cooling costs in Washington?

Yes. Interlock's energy-efficient colors include high solar reflectance—up to 0.55 with Aged Copper Penny, and 0.84 thermal emissivity across the board. These values mean the roof reflects heat rather than absorbing it, reducing cooling load on warm days. While Grand Coulee experiences only about 3414 sunshine hours annually and a mean temperature of 11°C, summer cooling demand is real, and every degree of heat rejection lowers air-conditioning runtime and cost. The Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms measurable performance vs. standard asphalt, which absorbs far more solar energy. Even in a cool climate, this translates to lower peak cooling costs on the 20–30 warmest days of the year. The energy benefit compounds over decades, and energy-efficiency qualification means it's independently verified—not marketing claims.

Can Interlock metal roofing be installed over my existing asphalt shingles?

Yes. Because Interlock's profiles weigh as little as 0.41 lb/sq ft (Shingle) to 0.59 lb/sq ft (Tile)—about 96% lighter than traditional tile—they install directly over existing asphalt without tearoff, structural reinforcement, or extended labor. This reduces installation time, mess, and landfill waste. Our local installer, Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc., has served the region since 1997 and manages the installation process from flashing details to ventilation continuity. A typical residential roof in Grand Coulee takes 1–3 days depending on complexity. Currently, we're offering no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation, making the transition even more accessible. If tearoff is preferred for any reason, we can accommodate that too. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation covers both installation methods, so your choice depends on budget and preference—the roof performs identically either way.
