Review: October 14, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.

Review: August 23, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Lum

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Lum, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Lum.

How does a metal roof handle Lum's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?

Aluminum sheds snow and ice far better than asphalt because its smooth, hard surface prevents ice dams—critical in a climate that averages 102 cm of snow and 88 freeze-thaw days yearly. The four-way interlocking panels create a unified surface that snow slides off before melt-refreeze damage occurs. Unlike wood shakes that absorb moisture and crack, or asphalt that becomes brittle in freeze cycles, aluminum's 3105-H24 alloy maintains flex and strength through repeated freezing. Standing Seam and Slate profiles channel water away most efficiently during the region's 406 mm annual rainfall mixed with snowmelt.

Why doesn't aluminum roofing rust like steel in wet Pacific Northwest weather?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes. Instead, aluminum forms a protective oxide layer that self-heals when scratched, an advantage in regions with frequent moisture and wind gusts up to 94 km/h that might damage other metals. Interlock's Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is applied to both sides of each panel, offering a 30-year warranty against chalking and fading even in damp climates. This dual-sided coating is especially important in Pacific Northwest conditions where salt air and constant humidity accelerate degradation of single-coated metals.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost in Lum?

A metal roof is cheaper over 40–50 years because it's installed once, not replaced twice like asphalt. Interlock carries a lifetime limited, non-prorated warranty for the original owner—meaning no deductible claims and no coverage fade. Asphalt typically lasts 15–20 years; two replacements cost removal, disposal, labor, and reinstallation. With no maintenance (asphalt needs repairs and often moss removal in wet climates), and a one-time 50-year transferable term for the next owner, the math favors metal decisively. Current promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation.

Can my existing roof structure support a metal roof, or do I need expensive reinforcement?

No reinforcement needed. Interlock's lightest profile, Cedar Shingle, installs at only 0.41 lb/sq ft—so light that the Mediterranean Tile, despite its authentic appearance, is about 96% lighter than real clay or concrete tile. Your existing roof framing can support this without modification, and Interlock installs directly over most existing shingles, saving tear-off costs. By contrast, real slate or tile roofing requires structural upgrades in many homes. This weight advantage means faster installation and zero hidden structural costs—a major savings in labor and engineering in a region where winter weather windows are narrow.

Will a metal roof keep my home cooler and reduce heating costs?

energy-efficient colors with thermal emissivity of 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 reflect heat rather than absorb it—important even in cooler climates like Lum, where about 3,309 sunshine hours per year add up. Cool roofs reduce attic temperature swings during the 88 freeze-thaw days, lowering HVAC cycling and extending equipment life. In summer, reflected heat keeps cooling loads lighter; in winter, the insulation layer beneath works uncompromised by absorbed solar gain. The Cool Roof Rating Council rating confirms performance—a measurable energy advantage over dark asphalt that absorbs the same sun.

What's the hail rating, and could it lower my insurance premiums?

Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4, the highest impact rating available—it withstands hail up to 1.5 inches and carries a warranty covering perforation from hail. Many insurers offer discounts for Class 4 roofs because claims are rare; contact your agent for specifics. In regions prone to severe weather, the combination of four-way interlocking panels and aluminum's inherent strength means you avoid the costly claim cycles asphalt roofs face after storms. The rating is verified and code-compliant under ICC-ES ESR-1790, giving underwriters confidence in durability data, not marketing claims.

How does a metal roof perform in Lum's winter wind gusts?

The four-way interlocking system is engineered to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification—far exceeding the typical gusts of 94 km/h and mean daily winds of about 20 km/h in this region. The mechanical lock between panels distributes wind load across the entire roof rather than relying on fasteners or adhesive alone. In Pacific Northwest winter storms, this design prevents uplift, edge-failure, and blow-offs that plague lighter shingles. Warranty coverage applies to proper installation, and the local installer, Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc., has served the region since 1997, ensuring correct execution in local wind patterns.

How long does installation take, and can you install over my existing roof?

Installation typically takes 2–5 days depending on roof size and complexity. Yes, Interlock installs over most existing roofs—no tear-off required, saving time, labor, and disposal costs. The lightweight panels (Cedar Shingle at 0.41 lb/sq ft) don't stress the existing structure, and the new layer provides additional insulation. This method is especially practical in Lum's rainy climate: a faster install means less weather disruption. The local installer coordinates timing around regional weather windows. Tear-off is avoided unless structural damage is present, keeping your project on budget and your home protected during work.

How much maintenance does a metal roof really need compared to asphalt or wood?

Virtually none. Aluminum won't rot, curl, crack, or split—eliminating the moss treatment, shingle replacement, and gutter debris that plague asphalt and wood in wet climates averaging 406 mm rain and 102 cm snow yearly. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating resists staining and discoloration, so cleaning is optional, not required. Asphalt roofs in damp regions often need moss removal every few years; wood shakes absorb moisture and deteriorate. Interlock is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance, meaning you skip annual inspections, repairs, and weather-damage claims. Over 40 years, the maintenance savings rival the material savings.

Is aluminum roofing actually more sustainable than asphalt?

Yes. Aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable at end of life, so your roof becomes feedstock for new products rather than landfill waste. Asphalt shingles are tear-off debris; the cycle repeats every 15–20 years, multiplying disposal costs and environmental impact. Aluminum's durability—typically 50+ years—means far fewer replacements over a century. Manufacturing in Delta, BC since 1998, Interlock minimizes transportation and uses established supply chains. Choosing metal breaks the asphalt replacement treadmill, reducing your home's lifetime carbon footprint. CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance and disposal impacts—a measurable sustainability advantage for homeowners prioritizing environmental responsibility.
