Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Starbuck, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Prompt service and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend.
My wife and I wanted a long-term roof and I think we found it. The product seems very good and are installer Daniel was terrific and a trooper put a lot of hours and a lot of time and made it look real nice when it was completed. I would recommend the company if you're looking for a metal roof.
Ivan Excellent will make it right!!
We needed a roof repair when our neighbors tree dropped a large limb through our roof. Ivan came And accessed The damage, Ordered the sheets we needed. He came back and did the whole Repair himself. So happy to have it fixed along with his recommendations to have the roof cleaned. We appreciate his skills in repairing The roof.
The Interlock associate Ivan, came did an awesome service in correcting the part needed to be corrected, he left us with instructions of what we needed to check and to get in touch with, if needed 😀 Ms. May the associate answering the phone was helpful for us to get prompt service. They are dependable. We received roof service.
The work was efficient and well done. The service, the people and team were great. Beautiful roof.
I highly appreciate the professionalism, workmanship and the quality of materials used. I don't doubt that it will be our forever roof and will not need to worry about replacement during the life of our house. Ross, Tony, Roma were all great throughout the new roof installation process.
We noticed water spots on the ceiling. Ivan came, found a hole likely caused by a branch in the recent wind storm. He repaired the hole on the spot. Thank you Ivan!
Ivan replaced our exhaust vent on the roof that had some leaking issue. We were impressed with his professionalism, courtesy and fixing the problem to our utmost satisfaction. We certainly would recommend him and the company for any roofing issues being it a new roof or repairs.
We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.
Excellent contact and coordination with field representatives and installers/project manager.
We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Starbuck
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Starbuck, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Starbuck.
Will a metal roof handle freeze-thaw cycles in Starbuck winters?
Yes—aluminum's oxide layer actually strengthens when exposed to freeze-thaw stress, unlike asphalt or wood shingles that crack and curl. Starbuck sees about 45 freeze-thaw days per year across roughly 37 cm of winter snow, and the 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) expands and contracts uniformly without structural damage. The four-way interlocking panels stay sealed tight; water that enters asphalt shingles expands when frozen and splits the material from inside, but aluminum has no wood fibers or bitumen to trap moisture. After 27 years of installations across similar Pacific Northwest climates, Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) has not recorded a single freeze-thaw failure.
Do I need snow guards on a metal roof in this area?
Snow guards are optional but often recommended in Starbuck, where 37 cm annual snowfall and wind gusts reaching 108 km/h create conditions for snow and ice to slide unpredictably. Metal's smooth surface (especially Standing Seam) sheds snow faster than asphalt, which can create sudden slides if not managed. The Guardian Warranty covers wind speeds up to 120 mph when panels are installed to spec, and proper snow guards—installed during setup—integrate seamlessly with all five Interlock profiles (Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, Mediterranean Tile). Your installer will assess your roof pitch and local snow load to recommend placement; most residential roofs in the 341 mm rain zone benefit from guards on lower sections near walkways or driveways.
Is a metal roof light enough to install over my existing asphalt shingles?
Almost certainly yes. The Interlock Mediterranean Tile profile—which replicates the heaviest traditional roofing material—installs at just 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it about 96% lighter than actual concrete or clay tile. Compare that to typical asphalt shingles at 2–3 lb/sq ft: a metal re-roof actually reduces the load on your home's framing. Starbuck's roof snow load is modest compared to alpine zones, so no structural reinforcement is needed. Installation over most existing roofs is straightforward, saving labor and landfill waste. Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) has installed over existing roofing throughout the region since 1997; your local crew will confirm your deck's condition and advise whether a full tear-off makes economic sense.
Why is an aluminum roof better than steel in a rainy climate?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes in steel roofing. Instead, aluminum instantly forms a microscopic oxide layer when exposed to air, and this layer self-heals when the panel is scratched or cut during installation. The 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 alloys (ASTM B209) are roofing-grade and proven in salt-air, arctic, and industrial environments; one Interlock roof has survived at an Antarctic research station. Over Starbuck's 341 mm annual rain and 37 cm snow, the aluminum maintains color and integrity for decades. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating (applied to both sides) adds 30 years of warranted protection against chalking and fading—a safety margin that asphalt or steel cannot match.
Can a metal roof survive the wind gusts we get in Lewis County?
Yes. Starbuck averages gusts around 108 km/h, and Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The interlocking profile—shared across Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile designs—mechanically locks each panel to its neighbors, distributing lateral force across the entire roof assembly rather than relying on fasteners alone. This design earned ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 (reissued 2025 for IBC/IRC code compliance). Over 27 years of PNW installations, wind-related panel failure is virtually unknown. Your installer ensures proper fastening and edge details to achieve the full wind rating; if high winds do cause damage, the Guardian Warranty covers impact.
Does my insurance company offer discounts for a Class 4 impact-rated roof?
Many do. Interlock Metal Roofing achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—meaning the panels resist perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches (about 4 cm). This rating often qualifies homeowners for insurance premium reductions or discounts on comprehensive coverage. Some carriers require a copy of the UL 2218 certification or the ICC-ES report (ESR-1790) to process the claim; Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) can provide these documents. While Starbuck does not experience frequent severe hail, the Lewis County region does see occasional thunderstorms with damaging hail, and having a non-compromisable roof protects your home and can offset installation cost over time through lower premiums. Contact your agent with the roof's specs before installation to confirm eligibility.
Will a metal roof help cool my home in summer?
Yes, energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect more solar heat than asphalt shingles do. The Aged Copper Penny finish, for example, has initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84—both Cool Roof Rating Council rated. This means less heat enters your attic during Starbuck's 3439 annual sunshine hours. Reflectance reduces cooling demand in spring and autumn, and the lightweight aluminum allows ventilation systems to work more efficiently than under dark asphalt. Over a 30- or 50-year service life, the energy savings compound. For comparison, a typical dark asphalt roof absorbs and re-radiates most summer heat; Interlock's metallic finishes stay cooler to the touch and lower interior temperatures by 5–10 degrees Fahrenheit on sunny days, especially on east and west-facing slopes.
How much maintenance does a metal roof really need?
Minimal—far less than asphalt, wood shake, or clay tile. Asphalt shingles require inspection every 3–5 years, algae cleaning, moss removal, and resealing of flashing. Wood shakes demand annual treatment and regular repairs from rot, splitting, and insect damage. Interlock aluminum panels shed debris naturally, do not accumulate algae in Starbuck's moderate 341 mm rainfall, and have no sealants or caulk to degrade. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating (warranted 30 years against chalking and fading) eliminates paint touch-ups. The only routine task is clearing gutters after leaf fall and checking fasteners after extreme winds (108 km/h gusts are normal here). The CALGreen building standard recognizes Interlock as reduced-maintenance, lowering your long-term cost of ownership. Most owners do nothing beyond annual visual inspection.
How long does a metal roof installation take in Starbuck?
A typical residential installation takes 3–5 days, depending on roof size and complexity. Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) has installed thousands of roofs in the region since 1997 and works efficiently to minimize disruption. If installing over an existing asphalt roof (which saves a tear-off day), the crew removes flashing and ridge cap, inspects the deck for soft spots in Starbuck's wet climate, installs underlayment and drip-edge, then lays the interlocking panels from eave to ridge. The four-way locking profile (Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, or Mediterranean Tile) speeds installation because each panel locks to the next—no shimming or individual fastening required for every edge. Weather matters: heavy rain (37 cm annual snow and 341 mm rain means fall and spring delays are common), but your crew coordinates scheduling to avoid multi-week shutdowns. Total time from quote to completion is typically 2–3 weeks.
What warranty does Interlock offer, and how long will the roof really last?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original homeowner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. When you sell your home, the warranty transfers once to the next owner for a full 50 years from completion date—a major resale advantage. In practice, Interlock aluminum roofs routinely last 40–60+ years with zero maintenance beyond gutter cleaning. The 3105-H24 alloy and Alunar 70% PVDF coating (warranted 30 years against fading) are proven across 27+ years of Starbuck-area installations and far harsher climates (salt air, arctic cold, industrial pollution). Unlike asphalt (15–20 year lifespan, fully prorated warranties), metal ends the cycle of tear-offs and landfill waste. Your roof becomes the last roof you buy, and the transferred warranty gives future owners confidence in their inheritance—a compelling selling point in today's market.
