Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Waaga Way, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |

What our customers are saying:
Vlad and John are great – caring, kind, courteous, polite – they truly care about the job they do. Give them a raise.
Workmanship exceeded our expectations. They had to do a lot of extra unanticipated work and stayed late into the night to complete it. The crew was great!
To whom it may concern: We recently needed our old asphalt shingle roof replaced as it was damaged and leaking from recent storm damage. Reviewing our options, we decided on metal since we live on the beach. After looking at the different metal roofs available and looking at online reviews we decided on Interlock. We were not disappointed. The process was quick and the timeline discussed initially at purchase was met. The company kept us informed during the entire process. Our roof had an additional issue not seen with most roof replacements, it was covered with solar panels. Interlock coordinated the removal and then the reinstallation with our solar installer. The panels needed removing and then the mounting brackets needed to be reinstalled so as to keep the " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">warranty in force; all went well. I was out of town while some of the roofing was being done, when I returned the roof was completed and all that was needed was the final inspection. I was surprised by the look of the final product, while I had seen pictures the actual product looked much better. The roof looks like “slate” tile, it does not look “metal. We had comments on the roof by neighbors during and after installation and people at work have asked for more information. I highly recommend Interlock Metal Roof to anyone needing a new roof.
We had the Interlock Roof installed in November of 2015 since then we have had some torrential rains and winds exceeding 50 mph. The roof has weathered the storms and is just as sound as the day the workers completed the installation. We are extremely pleased with the roof and the appearance of the roof. We are also very pleased that we chose the Interlock roof, both for the appearance and the wear ability of the product. It is a huge relief for us to know that this is the final roof we will ever have to put on our house and that the product is backed by a lifetime " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">warranty. Your roofing specialists that installed the roof were very professional, considerate, and thorough in their work. The property was cleaned and checked when the installation was complete. They promptly addressed any concerns we had and insured we were totally satisfied prior to completing the project. The entire crew deserves a hearty well done.
To Whom It May Concern: We bought our house in 2001. At that time we knew we had about 5-7 years of life left on our composition roof. In October of 2009, my husband and I attended the Home Show held at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds and we submitted our name at the Interlock booth to get more information about metal roofs, as we had been thinking about moving in that direction to replace the roof. About two weeks later, we met Ross Peterson. He spent about two hours educating us on roofs and all the different types of roofing materials available, how a large percentage of landfill waste is comprised of discarded roofing materials, and the range of expenses associated with the different kinds of roofs available to homeowners. He was polite, patient, and very knowledgeable. We went into the meeting hoping that the cost of a metal roof would somehow match up with the amount of money we felt we had available to put a new roof on our house. Overall, we determined that the work being done and the length of time we could expect the roof to last would far outweigh the expense in the long run. Especially since a metal roof can last 50 years, but you can expect to put a composition roof on several times in that time-frame. Our materials were delivered in early December and a few days later we met the work crew. They were friendly, considerate, and seemed well trained to complete the job. Unfortunately, we started having extreme weather conditions, like deep freezes one week and heavy rains the following week. Both of those situations caused the job to be delayed, both due to the safety of the crew and to keep the roof conditions as ideal as possible. We are now almost 3 months post install and are quite happy with the end result. We are pleased with our color choice and plan to paint our house this summer with a coordinating color to complement the roof. Thank you Interlock!
“No Worries”, may be an “in” thing to say now days, but for us it is a reality for the next 50 years! This summer, we didn’t worry about the bottle rockets landing on our roof. This fall, we won’t worry about the shingles blowing off in the next 60 plus mile an hour wind. This winter we won’t worry about the snow. And in the spring, we won’t worry about the moss growing on on our roof. If you are thinking you want a roof like ours, no worries about the salesman pressuring into something you don’t want. They were very professional and nice. Everything they promised was delivered exactly as they promised. You will also have no worries when it comes to the installation, as they too were very professional and left the yard just as they had found it. No worries also when it comes to our carbon footprint, as our existing roof is still on our roof and not in a landfill and when the day comes to replace this roof it is recyclable. They really should rename the Interlock Roofing to No Worries Roofing. “No Worries” in Bremerton
We are DELIGHTED with our new roof! The day after it was completed, we had a windstorm. It was so wonderful to wake up knowing there would be no shingles in the yard or loose shingles on the roof. And it is BEAUTIFUL! We see lots of people stopping to gaze at it. Our home truly looks like a cottage now. We cannot thank you enough for the superb product and the exceptional installers. Thanks again.
We noticed water spots on the ceiling. Ivan came, found a hole likely caused by a branch in the recent wind storm. He repaired the hole on the spot. Thank you Ivan!
My wife and I want to express our complete satisfaction with the "Aged " title="Copper Roofing" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked" data-wpil-monitor-id="2680">Copper" roof your firm installed on our "Barn-house" and gazebo. The two roofs have a high quality appearance and they enhance the looks of the property. We are looking forward to many years of satisfaction. We are now planning to re-paint the house with a color to better blend with the roof. The work performed by your installers was outstanding. They were friendly and very professional. They worked efficiently and energetically, and it was obvious they had the skills to do the job. Thank you for being such an excellent firm.
I have had this roof for almost 7 years, and I am still extremely happy!

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Waaga Way
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Waaga Way, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Waaga Way.
Will a metal roof handle Waaga Way's snow and ice buildup?
Metal roofs shed snow and ice more effectively than asphalt because aluminum's smooth surface and thermal properties resist ice dam formation. Waaga Way receives about 33 cm of snow annually across roughly 21 freeze-thaw days, creating the exact conditions where ice dams cost homeowners thousands in water damage. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels (ESR-1790 rated) lock together so tightly that water cannot penetrate panel seams, and the lightweight aluminum design means snow load never stresses your structure the way slate or concrete tile would. Snow guards can be added to your preferred profile if you want to control snow shedding patterns.
Why can't aluminum metal roofing rust like steel?
Aluminum roofing cannot rust because the base material contains no iron; rust requires iron to form chemically. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) coated with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both sides. When aluminum is scratched or damaged, its oxide layer self-heals naturally. This dual-coat protection matters in Waaga Way, where 1280 mm of annual rainfall and coastal proximity create moisture stress that degrades steel and corrodes fasteners in asphalt systems. Over a 50-year lifespan, you'll never replace fasteners or repair rust spots the way metal-roofing competitors with steel substrates require.
Can a metal roof withstand Waaga Way's winter wind gusts?
Yes—Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Waaga Way experiences typical daily-max winds around 15 km/h with gusts recorded to 101 km/h, well below the warranty threshold. The interlocking design distributes lateral forces across adjacent panels so individual fasteners don't carry the full load, unlike asphalt shingles nailed at four points. ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 confirms this panel geometry meets IBC/IRC wind-load requirements. In heavy weather, the overlap and mechanical interlock provide the structural redundancy that keeps other roofing systems vulnerable.
Does heavy rain cause leaks in metal roofing?
Metal roofs are inherently leak-resistant because water sheds downslope by gravity and panels interlock at seams so water cannot pool or back up into your home. Waaga Way receives approximately 1280 mm of rainfall annually, testing any roof's ability to move water fast and stay dry underneath. Interlock's overlapping panel design and mechanical four-way interlock (verified by ICC-ES ESR-1790) mean water exits the roof at panel edges, never entering the seams where leaks start in asphalt or wood systems. When installed over an existing roof with solid deck and underlayment, the air gap beneath panels adds a failsafe drainage plane. In 25+ years of installations from coastal salt-spray zones to extreme climates, Interlock has zero reported leak failures from heavy rainfall.
Will hail damage a metal roof in Washington?
Interlock metal roofing is rated UL 2218 Class 4 impact resistance—the highest classification available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Most of Waaga Way's 2931 annual sunshine hours occur in non-severe-weather periods, but when hail does occur, aluminum's flexibility and hardness (3105-H24 alloy) absorb impact without cracking like slate, concrete tile, or asphalt shingles do. Class 4 rating often qualifies homeowners for insurance premium discounts because claims are statistically rare. Check with your insurer about the hail-resistance discount; it frequently offsets years of insurance costs and strengthens the lifetime cost case for switching from asphalt.
Can my house support a metal tile roof without expensive reinforcement?
Yes. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft—approximately 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so no structural reinforcement is required and it installs directly over most existing roofs. Traditional tile demands costly rafter and beam upgrades to handle the dead load; aluminum does not. In Waaga Way's climate, where 33 cm of snow and 1280 mm of rain are routine, the reduced structural demand becomes a financial advantage: your existing framing already handles the cumulative load, so installation happens faster and without engineering reports or contractor callbacks. This lightweight advantage applies across all Interlock profiles (Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Tile), making any style retrofit-friendly.
How long does it take to install a metal roof in Waaga Way?
Installation speed depends on roof size and complexity, but Interlock's lightweight aluminum panels and overlapping interlocking design generally allow completion in days rather than weeks. Because Interlock panels install directly over existing asphalt or wood roofs—no tear-off required—you avoid the debris management, extended timeline, and labor cost of traditional re-roofing. Waaga Way's 1280 mm annual rainfall and frequent cloud cover mean weather delays are possible, but the simplicity of the install method (mechanical interlock, no hidden fasteners) keeps outdoor labor minimal during wet conditions. Our local installer, Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc., has served the region since 1997 and can schedule around seasonal rain patterns. Current promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation.
Is a metal roof more expensive than replacing my asphalt shingles?
Initial cost is typically 2–3× higher than asphalt, but lifetime cost favors metal significantly. Asphalt shingles last 15–25 years and require replacement, disposal, and re-installation every two decades—three roof cycles in 50 years. Interlock's Guardian Warranty covers the original owner's lifetime and transfers to the next owner for 50 years, eliminating re-roofing expense for three generations. Over 50 years, you'll spend $12,000–18,000 replacing asphalt three times (materials, labor, disposal); one metal roof costs $8,000–12,000 installed and never repeats. Add energy savings from energy-efficient colors with up to 0.55 initial solar reflectance (reducing cooling loads across Waaga Way's 2931 annual sunshine hours), and the total-cost math strongly favors aluminum—especially with current financing: no interest until Spring 2027.
Do metal roofs need less maintenance than asphalt or tile?
Metal roofs require virtually no maintenance; asphalt and tile demand routine work. Asphalt requires moss/algae removal (especially in Waaga Way's 1280 mm rainfall), shingle replacement after hail or wind, and gutter cleaning due to constant granule shedding. Wood shake roofs need annual inspection and frequent repairs from rot and splits. Concrete tile cracks, traps water, and requires mortar repointing. Interlock aluminum is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance: no granules shed, no rot develops, no cracks form, and the Alunar 70% PVDF coating (30-year warranty against chalking and fading) never peels or degrades. Occasional gutter cleaning and a rinse every few years keep it visually pristine. This near-zero maintenance over 50+ years compounds the cost advantage and eliminates the weekend projects homeowners dread.
Can I get a metal roof that looks like slate, cedar shake, or tile?
Interlock offers five authentic profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Mediterranean Tile, and Standing Seam. Each replicates traditional material texture and shadow-line dimensionality in aluminum, so your home's architectural character is preserved without the weight, maintenance, and cost penalties of genuine slate, wood, or clay. Slate profile suits heritage homes and high-end designs; Cedar Shingle and Shake work for farmhouse and cottage aesthetics; Mediterranean Tile complements contemporary and Spanish-inspired designs; Standing Seam delivers modern vertical-line sophistication. All profiles interlock four ways (ESR-1790 rated) and carry the same aluminum durability, lifetime warranty, and weathertightness. Your choice is purely aesthetic—the performance and 50-year transferability remain identical across styles.
