Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Erlands Point, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |

What our customers are saying:
Vlad and John are great – caring, kind, courteous, polite – they truly care about the job they do. Give them a raise.
Workmanship exceeded our expectations. They had to do a lot of extra unanticipated work and stayed late into the night to complete it. The crew was great!
We had the Interlock Roof installed in November of 2015 since then we have had some torrential rains and winds exceeding 50 mph. The roof has weathered the storms and is just as sound as the day the workers completed the installation. We are extremely pleased with the roof and the appearance of the roof. We are also very pleased that we chose the Interlock roof, both for the appearance and the wear ability of the product. It is a huge relief for us to know that this is the final roof we will ever have to put on our house and that the product is backed by a lifetime " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">warranty. Your roofing specialists that installed the roof were very professional, considerate, and thorough in their work. The property was cleaned and checked when the installation was complete. They promptly addressed any concerns we had and insured we were totally satisfied prior to completing the project. The entire crew deserves a hearty well done.
To Whom It May Concern: We bought our house in 2001. At that time we knew we had about 5-7 years of life left on our composition roof. In October of 2009, my husband and I attended the Home Show held at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds and we submitted our name at the Interlock booth to get more information about metal roofs, as we had been thinking about moving in that direction to replace the roof. About two weeks later, we met Ross Peterson. He spent about two hours educating us on roofs and all the different types of roofing materials available, how a large percentage of landfill waste is comprised of discarded roofing materials, and the range of expenses associated with the different kinds of roofs available to homeowners. He was polite, patient, and very knowledgeable. We went into the meeting hoping that the cost of a metal roof would somehow match up with the amount of money we felt we had available to put a new roof on our house. Overall, we determined that the work being done and the length of time we could expect the roof to last would far outweigh the expense in the long run. Especially since a metal roof can last 50 years, but you can expect to put a composition roof on several times in that time-frame. Our materials were delivered in early December and a few days later we met the work crew. They were friendly, considerate, and seemed well trained to complete the job. Unfortunately, we started having extreme weather conditions, like deep freezes one week and heavy rains the following week. Both of those situations caused the job to be delayed, both due to the safety of the crew and to keep the roof conditions as ideal as possible. We are now almost 3 months post install and are quite happy with the end result. We are pleased with our color choice and plan to paint our house this summer with a coordinating color to complement the roof. Thank you Interlock!
“No Worries”, may be an “in” thing to say now days, but for us it is a reality for the next 50 years! This summer, we didn’t worry about the bottle rockets landing on our roof. This fall, we won’t worry about the shingles blowing off in the next 60 plus mile an hour wind. This winter we won’t worry about the snow. And in the spring, we won’t worry about the moss growing on on our roof. If you are thinking you want a roof like ours, no worries about the salesman pressuring into something you don’t want. They were very professional and nice. Everything they promised was delivered exactly as they promised. You will also have no worries when it comes to the installation, as they too were very professional and left the yard just as they had found it. No worries also when it comes to our carbon footprint, as our existing roof is still on our roof and not in a landfill and when the day comes to replace this roof it is recyclable. They really should rename the Interlock Roofing to No Worries Roofing. “No Worries” in Bremerton
We are DELIGHTED with our new roof! The day after it was completed, we had a windstorm. It was so wonderful to wake up knowing there would be no shingles in the yard or loose shingles on the roof. And it is BEAUTIFUL! We see lots of people stopping to gaze at it. Our home truly looks like a cottage now. We cannot thank you enough for the superb product and the exceptional installers. Thanks again.
I have had this roof for almost 7 years, and I am still extremely happy!

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Erlands Point
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Erlands Point, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Erlands Point.
How does a metal roof handle heavy snow and ice buildup in Erlands Point winters?
Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow and ice efficiently because the smooth surface prevents adhesion better than asphalt or wood. With Erlands Point averaging 33 cm of snow annually and about 21 freeze-thaw cycles per year, the lightweight design (Slate at just 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no additional structural load—unlike slate or clay tile. Snow guards can be installed where needed. The metal's thermal conductivity helps prevent ice dams by allowing trapped heat to escape uniformly, reducing the freeze-thaw damage that degrades traditional roofing materials year after year.
Does a metal roof leak in Erlands Point's rainy climate?
No—the four-way interlocking aluminum panels are engineered to handle Erlands Point's approximately 1280 mm of annual rainfall without leaks when installed to specification. The interlocking design sheds water faster than asphalt, and the non-porous aluminum oxide layer prevents water absorption at seams and fasteners. Paired with proper underlayment and a solid deck, Interlock roofs perform in coastal climates with even heavier precipitation. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms weather-tightness across the Pacific Northwest's rain profile.
Why choose aluminum roofing over steel in a wet Pacific Northwest climate?
Aluminum roofing cannot rust because it contains no iron—rusting is an iron-only process. Instead, aluminum develops a microscopically thin oxide layer that self-heals when scratched, offering inherent protection even in humid salt-air environments where Interlock has been installed for decades. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum (ASTM B209) is paired with a Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both sides, warranted 30 years against fading and chalking. In Kitsap County's 2931 annual sunshine hours, this dual-layer protection prevents the corrosion and deterioration that plague steel roofing and wood shakes over 20+ years.
Can an Erlands Point metal roof withstand our winter storms and wind gusts?
Yes. Interlock metal roofs are warranted to resist sustained wind speeds up to 120 mph, far exceeding Erlands Point's typical gusts of around 101 km/h (63 mph) recorded in the area. The four-way interlocking panel design locks each sheet to its neighbors on all four edges, distributing wind load across the entire roof rather than stressing individual fasteners. This interlock system, combined with proper installation per ESR-1790, makes these roofs ideal for the Pacific Northwest's seasonal storm patterns. The warranty covers wind-driven rain and debris impact, so you're protected through the region's windiest seasons.
What hail rating does Interlock metal roofing have, and does it lower insurance costs?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—meaning it resists hailstones up to 1.5 inches without perforation, and the warranty covers perforation from hail up to that size. This non-combustible aluminum construction sometimes qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts; contact your insurer with the UL 2218 Class 4 rating and 30-year coating warranty details. In a region with variable spring and fall weather patterns like Kitsap County, this impact resistance provides peace of mind and may offset installation costs through lower premiums over the roof's 50+ year life.
Do I need to reinforce my home's framing for a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Slate profile weighs just 0.41 lb/sq ft and the Tile profile a mere 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Because existing roofing structure in most Erlands Point homes was designed to carry asphalt shingles (heavier per square foot than aluminum), you can install Interlock directly over your current roof. This overlay approach eliminates the tear-off cost, mess, and landfill waste while avoiding structural modifications entirely. The lightweight design is especially valuable in homes with older framing or those seeking a cost-effective upgrade.
How long will an Interlock metal roof last, and what does the warranty cover?
The Guardian Warranty provides a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rust, rot, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's transferable to the next owner for 50 years from completion, adding significant resale value. With Interlock's roofing-grade aluminum alloy and 30-year Alunar PVDF coating warranty, expect performance well beyond 50 years in Erlands Point's 1280 mm annual rainfall and 21 freeze-thaw cycles. The aluminum's oxide layer continues self-healing indefinitely, while asphalt roofs typically require replacement every 15-20 years in this climate.
Will a metal roof reduce my cooling costs in summer?
Yes. Interlock's energy-efficient colors reflect heat instead of absorbing it like asphalt. Some finishes (such as Aged Copper Penny) achieve initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 with thermal emissivity of 0.84, Cool Roof Rating Council rated. In Erlands Point's 2931 annual sunshine hours, this reflectance reduces heat transfer into the attic, lowering cooling loads on hot days. While the Pacific Northwest's moderate climate doesn't demand the extreme cooling energy savings seen in southern regions, these reflective properties also reduce thermal stress on the roof itself, extending coating life and protecting against the 21 annual freeze-thaw cycles that degrade materials through expansion and contraction.
How much maintenance does an Interlock metal roof need?
Minimal. Unlike wood shakes that split and curl, or asphalt that chalks and loses granules, Interlock aluminum requires only occasional gutter cleaning and debris removal—no seasonal treatments, sealing, or restaining. The non-porous aluminum surface and Alunar 70% PVDF coating resist mildew and algae growth even in wet climates. CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance demands. In Erlands Point's damp conditions with 1280 mm rain yearly, the aluminum's resistance to moisture absorption means no wood rot risk, no re-coating cycles, and no structural damage from trapped water. Over a 50-year lifespan, maintenance savings—both time and money—substantially improve the overall cost picture versus traditional materials.
Is Interlock metal roofing better for the environment than asphalt?
Substantially. Interlock's roofing-grade aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable at end-of-life, with established aluminum recovery streams. More immediately, installing Interlock over your existing roof eliminates the tear-off cycle—no landfill waste, no disposal costs, no heavy demolition equipment. Asphalt roofs, replaced every 15-20 years in Kitsap County's 1280 mm rainfall and freeze-thaw environment, generate thousands of pounds of landfill material per home over time. Interlock's 50+ year lifespan means one installation replaces 2-3 asphalt roofs, avoiding years of manufacturing, transportation, and demolition. The lower embodied carbon and extended service life make aluminum roofing the environmentally honest choice for homeowners committed to reducing their footprint.
