Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Russellville, Illinois
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!
Very heavy investment, but worth every cent! I worked with John and he was very mindful in planning everything out- especially the finer details of what was needed for the house and for the project. His crew was spectacular in their workmanship and friendliness. The only minor issue I had was the scheduling of the project- which is of nobody's fault. Things get done when they get done and those who are waiting, will be happy they waited. Not exaggerating, many customers will be quite pleased with the end result. I'm one of them. Many thanks, John, crew & Interlock!
Not only was the sales process easy, the installation guys were very respectful of my neighbors and my comfort while they were working. Now that it’s done I absolutely love the roof. It’s already made a huge difference in my electric use for cooling the house!
We are so proud of our new roof. It is so cool looking, it adds a great deal to the curb-appeal of our house. I also appreciate the security of knowing I'll never have to replace it or worry about it in even the strongest winds. I used to lose shingles in strong windstorms. Interlock was easy to work with. The workers were very respectful of my property and were meticulous about clean up after.
This project has been a roller coaster: First they were doing a good job, then not, then they assured us of the results and things looked good until we questioned something and they completely dropped the ball. They took our money and never followed up. Communication by Allen Gessell seems to be the weak link. He was horrible and ghosted us. It is a HUGE SHAME that what could have been a wonderful situation has become a fearful nightmare!
I'm really excited and pleased with the roof. I love everything about it in terms of color, style, and installation. Everything was done to our utmost satisfaction. Interlock Roofing could have improved the price. The price was expensive. It was a fantastic experience.
Scheduling
I think Interlock Roofing could have improved on the timing and having more flexibility in terms of when the project starts.
Communication on delivery and actual start time
The entire team (from sales to installation) was very clear regarding the timeline and next steps for the entire project. The end product looks great and is a vast improvement compared to the appearance of our prior roof. Good clear communication. No issues on my end.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Russellville
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Russellville, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Russellville.
Will a metal roof hold up through Illinois winters with all the freeze-thaw cycles?
Yes — aluminum's non-porous structure is actually ideal for freeze-thaw stress. Russellville experiences about 67 freeze-thaw days per year, where water that seeps into traditional asphalt or wood expands and contracts, causing cracking and splitting. Aluminum doesn't absorb water, so ice has nothing to expand within the material itself. The four-way interlocking panels shed water immediately, and the 3105-H24 aluminum alloy maintains its strength across the temperature swings you'll see here.
How does a metal roof handle Russellville's annual rainfall without leaking?
Heavy rainfall in Boone County averages 1126 mm annually, and the four-way interlocking design is engineered to handle it. Each panel locks tightly to its neighbors on all four sides — water flows down and outward rather than pooling or finding seams. Combined with proper underlayment and a solid deck, this system exceeds IRC standards (verified in ICC-ES ESR-1790). Homeowners report that water drains faster than it falls, even in heavy downpours.
Can a metal roof withstand the wind gusts we get in Illinois?
The warranty covers wind speeds up to 120 mph, and Russellville's typical gusts reach about 102 km/h (63 mph). The four-way interlocking system distributes wind load across the entire panel network rather than stressing individual fasteners. Each panel locks mechanically to its neighbors, so uplift force is shared rather than concentrated. That's why this system performs from coastal Atlantic storms to prairie tornadoes — the locking mechanism is the defense, not just fastener count.
Will hail damage a metal roof, and can I get insurance discounts?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4, the highest hail rating available — it's tested against 1.5-inch ice balls fired at impact speeds that match the most severe hailstorms. The warranty covers perforation from hail of that size. Many insurers recognize Class 4 impact resistance and offer premium discounts because the roof is less likely to file a claim. Check with your carrier, but the non-combustible aluminum and dent-resistance often qualify for both hail and wind credits that offset the roof's cost over time.
Does a metal roof help with cooling costs in the summer?
energy-efficient colors reflect sunlight rather than absorbing it like dark asphalt. Interlock's reflective coatings achieve initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning the roof stays cooler and radiates absorbed heat away at night. With 3223 annual sunshine hours in Russellville, that reflection compounds across the year. A cooler roof surface reduces air-conditioning load, especially on the south and west exposures where summer sun is strongest. The Cool Roof Rating Council data backs the measurable efficiency gain.
Is a metal roof light enough to install over my existing asphalt roof?
The Slate profile installs at roughly 0.41 lb/sq ft and the Mediterranean Tile at 0.59 lb/sq ft — both extraordinarily light. Concrete or clay tile weighs about 12 lb/sq ft, so Interlock's Tile profile is approximately 96% lighter. Most existing structures can handle re-roofing without reinforcement, which saves thousands in structural upgrades. The lightweight design also reduces strain on fasteners and trusses over decades, so your home's frame sustains less cumulative stress through 1126 mm of annual rain and snow cycles.
Why doesn't aluminum rust like steel roofs do?
Aluminum contains no iron — rust requires iron to form. When aluminum is scratched, it instantly forms a new oxide layer that stops corrosion at the wound. That self-healing property is why Interlock's roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) is used in salt-air Antarctic research stations and coastal homes. In Russellville's inland climate with 26 cm annual snow and freeze cycles, corrosion is virtually eliminated. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating (applied to both sides) adds 30-year color and fade protection, but the aluminum itself cannot rust regardless of moisture or road salt exposure.
What warranty does Interlock offer, and how long does the roof actually last?
The Guardian Warranty is a non-prorated lifetime limited material warranty for the original owner — it covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. The warranty transfers once to the next owner for a 50-year term from completion. No other roofing material (asphalt, wood, slate) offers a comparable non-prorated guarantee. With aluminum's resistance to the 67 freeze-thaw cycles Russellville experiences annually and the PVDF coating's 30-year fade warranty, real-world installations have exceeded 40 years with minimal maintenance, making this the last roof you'll buy.
Is a metal roof more environmentally responsible than asphalt shingles?
Aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable at end-of-life, whereas asphalt shingles end up in landfills. A typical re-roof removes 4-6 tons of old shingles per home, multiplied by tens of thousands of roofs replaced yearly. Interlock's material closes that cycle — old panels are returned to the aluminum stream. Manufacturing new aluminum from recycled content uses far less energy than processing virgin ore. Over 25 years, choosing aluminum instead of asphalt saves the landfill burden and reduces the embodied energy of your roof. CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance impact as well.
Who installs Interlock metal roofing in Russellville?
Interlock Metal Roofing has served the Boone County region since 2001, bringing over two decades of experience installing these systems across Illinois' variable climate. Is a metal roof a good choice for Russellville’s climate?
Yes. Russellville averages about 26 cm of snow, 1126 mm of rain, roughly 67 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 102 km/h.
