Review: April 12, 2026Completion: May 30, 2016

We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!

Review: April 3, 2025Completion: July 31, 2024

Very heavy investment, but worth every cent! I worked with John and he was very mindful in planning everything out- especially the finer details of what was needed for the house and for the project. His crew was spectacular in their workmanship and friendliness. The only minor issue I had was the scheduling of the project- which is of nobody's fault. Things get done when they get done and those who are waiting, will be happy they waited. Not exaggerating, many customers will be quite pleased with the end result. I'm one of them. Many thanks, John, crew & Interlock!

Not only was the sales process easy, the installation guys were very respectful of my neighbors and my comfort while they were working. Now that it’s done I absolutely love the roof. It’s already made a huge difference in my electric use for cooling the house!

Review: May 8, 2024Completion: April 29, 2024

We are so proud of our new roof. It is so cool looking, it adds a great deal to the curb-appeal of our house. I also appreciate the security of knowing I'll never have to replace it or worry about it in even the strongest winds. I used to lose shingles in strong windstorms. Interlock was easy to work with. The workers were very respectful of my property and were meticulous about clean up after.

Review: November 30, 2023Completion: October 31, 2023

This project has been a roller coaster: First they were doing a good job, then not, then they assured us of the results and things looked good until we questioned something and they completely dropped the ball. They took our money and never followed up. Communication by Allen Gessell seems to be the weak link. He was horrible and ghosted us. It is a HUGE SHAME that what could have been a wonderful situation has become a fearful nightmare!

I'm really excited and pleased with the roof. I love everything about it in terms of color, style, and installation. Everything was done to our utmost satisfaction. Interlock Roofing could have improved the price. The price was expensive. It was a fantastic experience.

The entire team (from sales to installation) was very clear regarding the timeline and next steps for the entire project. The end product looks great and is a vast improvement compared to the appearance of our prior roof. Good clear communication. No issues on my end.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Candlewick Lake

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Candlewick Lake, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Candlewick Lake.

How does a metal roof handle heavy snow and ice in Illinois winters?

Aluminum's light weight and smooth interlocking design shed snow and ice efficiently, reducing ice dam formation that damages asphalt shingles. Candlewick Lake receives about 81 cm of snow annually over roughly 85 freeze-thaw days, conditions where traditional heavy roofs trap moisture and fail prematurely. The four-way interlocking panels remain secure even as snow expands and contracts, and you can add snow guards where needed. Unlike slate or tile, which weigh 50+ lb per square foot and demand reinforcement, Interlock's Shake profile weighs just 0.58 lb/sq ft—it won't accelerate structural damage during freeze cycles.

Why does freeze-thaw cycling in Illinois ruin some roofs but not metal?

Freeze-thaw cycles break asphalt and wood shingles because water penetrates, expands when frozen, and cracks the material from inside. Interlock's non-porous aluminum alloy (3105-H24) doesn't absorb water, so expansion is impossible. With about 85 freeze-thaw days per year in Boone County plus 863 mm of rainfall, traditional materials face constant stress; aluminum simply passes water through the interlocking seams without degradation. The Alunar coating's 30-year fade warranty ensures the sealant stays flexible through temperature swings, maintaining water-shedding integrity season after season.

Does metal roofing rust? What's the difference between aluminum and steel?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes. When aluminum's surface is scratched, its oxide layer self-heals within hours, re-sealing the metal beneath. Steel roofing, by contrast, rusts from the inside out once coatings chip or fasteners fail. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) coated on both sides with 70% PVDF fluorocarbon, offering redundant protection in Candlewick Lake's moist climate. That dual-sided coating is especially valuable where rainfall averages 863 mm yearly—traditional asphalt gutters, downspouts, and fasteners corrode and fail; aluminum stays inert.

Can hailstones damage an Interlock metal roof, and can it affect my insurance?

Interlock panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and are even warranted against perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 means the roof resists damage from impacts that destroy asphalt or tile. Some insurers offer discounts for Class 4-rated roofs because claims are so rare; contact your agent with the UL listing (33876) and ICC-ES report (ESR-1790) to ask about premium reductions. In Boone County, spring hail is a known risk; investing in impact-proof aluminum can pay dividends both in durability and on your policy.

How well does a metal roof hold up to wind gusts in Illinois storms?

Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification—well above the typical gusts Candlewick Lake experiences (historical peaks around 97 km/h, roughly 60 mph). The four-way interlocking design locks each panel to its neighbors, distributing wind force across the entire roof rather than allowing individual shingles to lift. Because panels are fastened at the factory seams rather than exposed, there are no weak points for wind to exploit. This interlocking architecture, combined with proper installation over a solid deck, means spring storms and occasional microbursts won't compromise the roof's integrity or expose underlying structure.

Can my house support a metal roof, or do I need expensive structural work?

No structural reinforcement is required because aluminum is extraordinarily light. The Interlock Tile profile—which replicates the look of traditional clay or concrete tile—weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft, roughly 96% lighter than the real thing. Real tile demands expensive foundation and framing upgrades; Interlock installs directly over most existing roofs without reinforcement. Candlewick Lake homes built for asphalt (typically 3–4 lb/sq ft) easily support metal roofing, and the ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 confirms installation compliance with the International Building Code. This lightweight advantage also means faster installation and lower labor costs.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?

Aluminum requires virtually no maintenance—no annual inspections, no patching, no replacement of individual shingles. Asphalt shingles curl, crack, and lose granules within 15–20 years; wood shakes split and rot. Interlock's non-porous aluminum and CALGreen-verified design eliminate the maintenance treadmill. Rain (about 863 mm per year in Candlewick Lake) rinses away any debris naturally. The 30-year Alunar coating warranty against chalking means the finish resists fading from 3,079 annual sunshine hours without repainting. Over a 50-year roof life, the elimination of repairs, replacements, and seasonal inspections translates to real savings and uninterrupted protection.

Do reflective metal roofs really save money on cooling costs?

Yes, energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect heat asphalt absorbs, lowering cooling loads and energy bills. Aged Copper Penny and other rated colors have initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, certified by the Cool Roof Rating Council. In Candlewick Lake's climate (about 3,079 sunshine hours yearly and mean temperature 9.7°C), the benefit is seasonal but meaningful: summer cooling demands less air-conditioning, reducing both utility bills and peak-load stress on electrical grids. The reflective advantage compounds over decades, and energy-efficiency qualification ensures you're not paying for marketing hype—the data is independently verified.

What's the warranty on an Interlock metal roof, and does it transfer if I sell?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited material warranty for the original owner—non-prorated, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's also one-time transferable, giving the next owner 50 years of coverage from completion. This transferability is a huge selling point for future buyers; you're installing a roof that outlasts most mortgages and keeps protecting successive owners. With typical asphalt roofs lasting 15–20 years and requiring replacement every generation, the lifetime guarantee and transfer term mean genuine peace of mind plus documented resale appeal.

Who installs Interlock roofing in Candlewick Lake, and how long have they been in business?

Interlock Metal Roofing has served the region since 2001, bringing over two decades of experience with aluminum installation in Boone County's freeze-thaw climate. The company's local roots mean familiarity with Illinois building codes, local weather challenges, and the specific homes in and around Candlewick Lake. Their long track record—combined with the fact that Interlock panels have been manufactured since 1998 in Delta, BC and installed from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctic research stations—ensures the roof is installed correctly the first time. Contact the local team for a free inspection and estimate.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Candlewick Lake’s climate?

Yes. Candlewick Lake averages about 81 cm of snow, 863 mm of rain, roughly 85 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 97 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
