Review: March 16, 2021Completion: September 9, 2020

Last summer I realized I was in the need of a new roof on my old home which was built in 1876. I was hoping I could find a roof that accentuated the uniqueness and beauty of my old farm-style house. I always dreamed of owning a home with a metal roof, so I thought, well, let’s give this a look and see if it is an option. After searching for roofers and making some calls I found no one in my area offering metal roofs, needless to say, I became discouraged. Then, one day, on Facebook, I happened to see an ad with Midwest Roofing/Interlock Roofing showing the exact type of roof I was looking for!! I was so excited and called the number and was able to have an appointment arranged that very weekend. John came out, did some measuring, got up in my attic, then we sat and had a long, very informative discussion. John was extremely patient with my numerous questions and was able to explain things to me in layman’s terms, as I am not adept in the construction business, at all. So, the nitty gritty…I was originally thinking standing seam going into this whole project but then out came the slate look and oh my, that was it…The roof I had been looking for. It was exactly what needed to be on top of my house!!! And the black color just spoke to me…. John agreed!! Nowhere else had I ever seen a roof like the one I was about to have put on my beloved home. So, the price, while I knew a metal roof was going to cost more, I was looking more for security and peace of mind. I am a single parent of a child on the autism spectrum. I knew that I did not want to deal with roof issues in the future, the struggle to get a roofer to come to fix their problem, and the thought of having to replace it all over again just a few years down the road. Nope, the extra cost of this one-and-done roof was well worth it to me…after all, how do you put a price tag on peace of mind? And there aren’t many things in this world nowadays that can give you that. So, I signed the contract… The delivery…. how exciting…all these boxes lined up in my driveway…it was getting real!! Installation begins. Never in my lifetime have I met such an amazing installation crew, headed by Jesse. These guys worked tirelessly on transforming my average-looking home into the WOW home on the block. They took great care in working around my cupola and rock chimney, making sure everything was sealed where it needed to be, even reinforcing the cupola as it had been up there for so many years. These guys are not just installers, they are truly artists, and the pride in what they do shines in their workmanship. Even the care in the cleanup was amazing…very impressed. Any company can put out an amazing product, but for that product to remain amazing, that company has to have professional team members working with the customers…that is what you will get if you go with Interlock. Not just a stand-out product but a stand-out crew from sales, scheduling, and installation…it’s the whole package.

Review: November 26, 2013Completion: November 9, 2013

We had replaced one roof in the time we had owned our home, and now it was time for the second replacement. I began to wonder if there were any alternatives to old asphalt technology. Also, we had two concerns about asphalt, the first is that it is not clean from an environmental standpoint and second, asphalt is oil based which means its cost is linked with the price of oil. I noticed that many commercial buildings had metal roofs. My wife and I usually do a lot of deep research for major home projects. We began looking into the possibility of replacing the current roof with metal. Our research indicated that there were residential metal roofs available in various metals and styles. Four factors need to be considered. Type of metal. We chose aluminum over steel. It’s lighter and less susceptible to corrosion, although corrosion is not a major factor due to the various coatings and treatments applied to both metals during the manufacturing process. Structural assembly. We liked the Interlock method of attaching the panels to each other and the roof base. When complete, the system is structurally sound and waterproof. Installation process. Installing a metal roof requires experience. Installation is different from that of an asphalt roof. During our research, we had a hard time locating installers that had experience installing residential metal roofs. This was another reason that we chose Interlock. They are associated with installation crews who have the knowledge and experience required for working with the Interlock product. The only other factor to consider is the style and color, and there are many to choose from. Installation was uneventful, the crew was courteous, and they explained exactly what they were doing and answered any questions that we had. The roof looks beautiful, and we have had many compliments on it since it was installed two weeks ago. We are very happy that we chose Interlock for this project and highly recommend them.

Review: May 11, 2017

Our new roof is beautiful! We have received so many compliments and inquiries since our Interlock roof was installed four weeks ago. John delivered on his promise with a quality product and set up the stage for what was to come, answering all our early questions and showing us the information we were looking for to make a confident decision. He provided us with installation pictures of previous jobs, the product specifications, color and type of samples, historical data on product performance and much more. Dal from customer service responded quickly with dates when the material was arriving and dates for the installation. After some concerns about having to travel for work and being out of town, Al communicated well, and they worked around my travel schedule my family appreciated this greatly. The roof is not any louder during several of the storms we have had already than before. Despite a few outside temperatures reaching the 80s and sunny, the inside of the house has stayed cool without needing to turn on the AC or ceiling fans. It really is a new experience to walk into our second-level rooms and not have it feel warmer than the lower level. The installation crew did a great job. They told us everything they were doing and answered all of our questions. The fire department even stopped by during the installation to ask what it was! The crew completed the job in 4 days, working over the weekend to finish before the next storm. They left the yard clean every night, and they cleared out the gutters from all of the debris. After watching the team install the new roof safely, we have come to appreciate the craftsmanship that comes with installing this type of roof. The crews are proud of the product, and their care shows in the installation. Putting on this new roof requires a lot of skill, a lot of hours, and experience that I think new owners won’t realize until observing them and going through it. Minimal waste scraps, efficiently making thousands of measurements and metal shaping to perfectly fit all the corners and bends is a testament to the experience our crew, led by Jesse and Sal, had. This Interlock company has been great and there have been so many people referenced here that have worked to provide us a great customer experience. To the whole team, great job, and thank you. We look forward to the many years this roof will continuously perform as it was designed and the many more times we will appreciate the beauty of it.

Review: May 10, 2021Completion: May 3, 2021

The process was seamless, it was a no-headache, no-hassle experience and the roof looks amazing. The team was fast, respectful, and really took the time to make sure we understood everything that was going on. They were very safe and considerate of my dogs going in and out of the backyard, and took extra time to clean up everything each day, and especially when they finished the job. And not a single plant damaged (which is amazing, because they are planted right up next to the house)! They were friendly and communicative, and took care of everything. It was a great experience, and we now have the most beautiful roof on the block. I think the scheduling team could have been a little bit more proactive in terms of communication in the time between the signing of the contract and the installation, but obviously it all worked out just fine, so they clearly were doing everything they needed to be doing scheduling-wise, and it ultimately didn't influence the experience all that much, especially since John Mondschean (sales) was so accommodating and communicative throughout the process. There have been a lot of new roofs going on in my neighborhood since the big double hailstorm last year, and I can confidently say that ours is the most beautiful, and the team that installed it was the cleanest and most considerate. There was not a single piece of plastic, nail, etc. left behind after they were done, and they were pretty quiet throughout the process, which was important to me as I work from home.

I just want to say the Interlock team did an excellent job installing my roof. The installation team were craftsman, cordial, punctual, and they did a great job of keeping the work site clean at the end of each day. As far as the roof I love the look of the black standing seam with the dark gray Hardie Board siding, and I can already tell that the roof is keeping my house and garage cooler.

Jesse was very professional and knowledgeable about the product. He answered any questions we had about the roof. It all went great! They could have kept me updated instead of me having to continually call for updates. They could have gave me a status but they didn't.

I'm really excited and pleased with the roof. I love everything about it in terms of color, style, and installation. Everything was done to our utmost satisfaction. Interlock Roofing could have improved the price. The price was expensive. It was a fantastic experience.

Areas where flashing needs to extend beyond a vertical surface i.e. chimney's, second story corners, you need a method to provide a more professional look when making cuts in aluminum siding. Happy with my decision to purchase a roof from Interlock. It looks great. Time will tell if it will perform as promised.

Review: July 14, 2021Completion: June 21, 2021

Communication could have been better prior to the project starting. They communicated wonderfully until we paid our down payment. Then communication ceased. There was no communication until we reached out to them expressing our concerns. Once the project started communication was phenomenal. The roof looks extraordinary. We have had some heavy rain and our roof has held up wonderfully and it is beautiful. We believe it is a better quality than others.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Poplar Grove Township

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Poplar Grove Township, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Poplar Grove Township.

How does a metal roof handle Poplar Grove's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?

Aluminum sheds snow efficiently because its smooth, hard surface prevents ice dams—a critical advantage in your region's 120 cm annual snowfall and 85 freeze-thaw days per year. The panels resist the expanding and contracting stresses of repeated freezing without cracking, splitting, or curling. Interlock's four-way interlocking design keeps water sealed out during the melt cycle. Optional snow guards hold snow on the roof if you prefer gradual melting. This durability under thermal cycling is why the Guardian warranty covers cracking and splitting—asphalt and wood cannot make that promise after 20 winters.

Can a metal roof rust in Illinois winters?

No. Interlock roofing uses 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 roofing-grade aluminum alloy, which contains no iron and therefore cannot rust. When aluminum is scratched, its oxide layer self-heals automatically, sealing the wound before corrosion can start. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating (applied to both sides) adds a 30-year fade and chalk warranty on top of that natural protection. Steel roofing requires constant vigilance in climates like yours—863 mm of annual rain plus snow melt create ideal rust conditions. Aluminum simply does not have this problem.

Will a metal roof blow off in Illinois wind gusts?

The four-way interlocking panels lock together under wind stress, and Interlock's design is warranted to resist 120 mph winds when installed to specification. Poplar Grove's typical wind gusts reach about 97 km/h (60 mph), well below this threshold. The interlocking geometry distributes wind load across the entire panel assembly—a single panel cannot lift or separate. This design has performed in coastal hurricane regions and Antarctic research stations. Each panel edge engages its neighbor, creating a unified roof skin rather than individual shingles that can be peeled back one by one.

Does Interlock metal roofing qualify for hail-damage insurance discounts?

Interlock metal roofing carries the highest impact rating available—UL 2218 Class 4—and the Guardian warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This exceptional durability may qualify your homeowner's insurance for a discount; speak with your agent about Interlock's verified impact rating. Asphalt shingles typically fail under Class 4 hail, triggering costly replacement claims. Your claims history and premium stability matter to resale value. Metal roofing's proven hail performance is one reason many Illinois insurers recognize it as a loss-prevention upgrade.

Is a metal roof cheaper than replacing asphalt shingles every 15–20 years?

Over the lifetime of your home, yes. Asphalt shingles cost less upfront but need replacement every 15–20 years, creating a cycle of tear-off, landfill, and reinstallation. Interlock carries a lifetime limited material warranty for the original owner and remains your last roof—you will not reroof again. A 50-year ownership horizon in Illinois's 863 mm rain and 81 cm snow climate favors durability over cycle cost. The transferable 50-year warranty also adds value at resale. A single Interlock installation absorbs decades of labor and material inflation, making it financially rational even at higher initial cost.

Can my house's framing support metal roofing, or do I need structural reinforcement?

Interlock's aluminum panels are extraordinarily light—the Tile profile installs at about 0.59 lb/sq ft, roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Most homes need zero structural reinforcement. The panels install directly over your existing roof decking and, in many cases, over the old asphalt shingles themselves. This light weight also reduces strain during installation and means your HVAC and foundation bear no additional burden. Steel roofing, by contrast, often requires structural upgrades. Aluminum's low mass is why Interlock can retrofit over existing roofs without costly framing work, saving thousands in labor.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood shake?

Virtually none for Interlock aluminum. Asphalt shingles require inspection after every storm, moss removal in damp climates, and algae treatment—ongoing costs. Wood shake splits, rots, and requires regular sealing in regions with 863 mm annual rain and 85 freeze-thaw cycles like yours. Interlock's aluminum is non-combustible and does not rot, split, curl, or moss. The 70% PVDF coating resists fading over 30 years. Occasional gutter cleaning and debris removal—tasks you do anyway—are sufficient. This low-maintenance promise is backed by the Guardian warranty covering rotting, splitting, and cracking. No treatments, no re-sealing, no regrets.

Will a metal roof help me save money on cooling in summer?

Yes, if you choose energy-efficient colors. These profiles feature thermal emissivity of 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (such as Aged Copper Penny), reflecting heat that asphalt absorbs and converts to attic warmth. Cool Roof Rating Council testing confirms this performance. Your region averages 3079 sunshine hours per year—enough to matter. Reflecting rather than absorbing solar energy reduces attic temperature and cooling load during warm months. Interlock's metallic finishes achieve this efficiency without sacrificing the aesthetic depth of Slate, Shake, or Tile profiles. Over a 25-year ownership in an air-conditioned home, energy savings from a reflective metal roof offset a meaningful portion of its installed cost.

Is metal roofing really more environmentally responsible than asphalt?

Yes. Interlock's aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable at end of life, versus asphalt shingles that end up in landfills. Your region receives 863 mm rain annually—enough moisture that asphalt replacement cycles accelerate. Interlock eliminates the tear-off-to-landfill cycle because it lasts a lifetime, and when it does reach end of life, aluminum retains scrap value and returns to the recycling loop. Manufacturing aluminum does require energy, but the lifecycle span—50 to 100 years versus 15 to 20 years—amortizes environmental cost. CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance overhead. Choosing a roof you install once, not four times, is the single largest environmental decision a homeowner can make.

Who installs Interlock metal roofing in Poplar Grove Township, and how experienced are they?

Interlock Metal Roofing has served this region since 2001 and is the authorized installer for Poplar Grove Township and surrounding Boone County. The company understands Illinois snow load, ice dam mechanics, wind gusts to 97 km/h, and 85 freeze-thaw cycles per year. They install to ICC-ES ESR-1790 specification, ensuring your roof qualifies for the full 120 mph wind warranty and Guardian lifetime coverage. Local experience means they know local building codes, work with your existing structure, and respond quickly to questions or service needs. A 20+ year track record in your climate is a stronger assurance than national chains unfamiliar with Midwest freeze-thaw demands.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Poplar Grove Township’s climate?

Yes. Poplar Grove Township averages about 81 cm of snow, 863 mm of rain, roughly 85 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 97 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
