Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Garden Prairie, Illinois
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!
Very heavy investment, but worth every cent! I worked with John and he was very mindful in planning everything out- especially the finer details of what was needed for the house and for the project. His crew was spectacular in their workmanship and friendliness. The only minor issue I had was the scheduling of the project- which is of nobody's fault. Things get done when they get done and those who are waiting, will be happy they waited. Not exaggerating, many customers will be quite pleased with the end result. I'm one of them. Many thanks, John, crew & Interlock!
Not only was the sales process easy, the installation guys were very respectful of my neighbors and my comfort while they were working. Now that it’s done I absolutely love the roof. It’s already made a huge difference in my electric use for cooling the house!
We are so proud of our new roof. It is so cool looking, it adds a great deal to the curb-appeal of our house. I also appreciate the security of knowing I'll never have to replace it or worry about it in even the strongest winds. I used to lose shingles in strong windstorms. Interlock was easy to work with. The workers were very respectful of my property and were meticulous about clean up after.
This project has been a roller coaster: First they were doing a good job, then not, then they assured us of the results and things looked good until we questioned something and they completely dropped the ball. They took our money and never followed up. Communication by Allen Gessell seems to be the weak link. He was horrible and ghosted us. It is a HUGE SHAME that what could have been a wonderful situation has become a fearful nightmare!
I'm really excited and pleased with the roof. I love everything about it in terms of color, style, and installation. Everything was done to our utmost satisfaction. Interlock Roofing could have improved the price. The price was expensive. It was a fantastic experience.
Scheduling
I think Interlock Roofing could have improved on the timing and having more flexibility in terms of when the project starts.
Communication on delivery and actual start time
The entire team (from sales to installation) was very clear regarding the timeline and next steps for the entire project. The end product looks great and is a vast improvement compared to the appearance of our prior roof. Good clear communication. No issues on my end.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Garden Prairie
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Garden Prairie, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Garden Prairie.
Will metal roofing hold up to Illinois winters with all the freeze-thaw cycles?
Yes—aluminum's oxide layer actually strengthens when exposed to freeze-thaw stress, unlike asphalt or wood that crack and curl under those conditions. Garden Prairie experiences roughly 83 freeze-thaw days per year, and roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum has zero porosity, so water cannot penetrate and expand inside the material. The non-prorated Guardian Warranty specifically covers cracking and curling, giving you direct protection against the exact freeze-thaw damage that degrades traditional roofing over 15–20 years.
How does a metal roof handle heavy snow loads in Boone County?
Interlock's aluminum panels weigh roughly 0.41 lb/sq ft (the Shingle profile)—so light that snow slides cleanly rather than sitting and creating ice dams. With about 84 cm of snow annually in Garden Prairie, a metal roof's smooth surface and low weight mean less risk of the ice dam buildup that traditional asphalt experiences. You can add snow guards if desired for safety, but the fundamental advantage is that aluminum's light weight and slippery finish prevent the dangerous thermal cycling that locks asphalt roofs in place each winter.
Does metal roofing rust, especially in wet Illinois weather?
No. Aluminum contains no iron—it physically cannot rust, even in wet climates. Instead, it develops a transparent oxide layer that self-heals when scratched, so moisture and the 838 mm of annual rainfall in Garden Prairie cannot reach the base metal. Steel roofing, by contrast, requires constant paint or coating maintenance because iron oxidizes on contact with water. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (both sides) adds a 30-year chalking warranty on top of the material's inherent corrosion immunity, meaning you skip decades of inspection and touch-up work.
Are four-way interlocking metal panels secure in high winds?
The four-way interlocking system resists wind speeds up to 120 mph under the Guardian Warranty, and Garden Prairie's typical gusts reach about 100 km/h (62 mph), with rare extremes pushing toward that threshold. The interlocks grip on all four sides, so panels cannot lift or separate in the way shingles do. This engineered overlap means your roof handles both seasonal wind patterns and the occasional severe gust without fastener creep or panel movement—your home stays protected year after year without the routine inspections asphalt roofs require.
Will I need to reinforce my roof structure for a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is needed. The Mediterranean Tile profile, which replicates heavy clay or concrete tile, weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than actual tile. Most homes can handle this weight over their existing structure without modification, and Interlock installs directly over old asphalt, eliminating the cost and waste of a tear-off. You get the authentic look of premium tile or slate while keeping your home's framing and foundation undisturbed, which also means faster installation and lower labor costs.
What happens if hail damages a metal roof?
Interlock panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches, even after 25+ years. Garden Prairie's climate includes hail risk, and because aluminum is non-combustible and maintains impact resistance over time (unlike asphalt, which becomes brittle), you may qualify for insurance discounts. Class 4 means the roof passes the toughest impact test; many homeowners see premium reductions that offset the initial cost within a few years.
Can a metal roof really lower cooling costs?
energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect heat with initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, reducing the heat absorbed into your attic compared to dark asphalt. Garden Prairie receives about 3,084 sunshine hours annually, and that reflectance compounds over spring and summer months. A cooler attic means your air conditioning runs less, cutting utility bills especially in warm months. The Cool Roof Rating Council certification backs this performance, so you're not relying on marketing claims—the savings are measurable.
What maintenance does a metal roof need?
Aluminum roofing requires almost none. Unlike wood shakes that rot and asphalt that oxidizes, Interlock panels need only occasional debris clearing and inspection—no re-coating, no sealing, no fastener replacement. Garden Prairie's 838 mm annual rainfall and freeze-thaw cycles accelerate asphalt deterioration, but aluminum's oxide layer is self-healing and the CALGreen-verified Interlock system is rated for reduced maintenance by code. You spend your time and money on other parts of your home, not your roof.
What does the Interlock warranty actually cover, and for how long?
The Guardian Warranty is a non-prorated lifetime limited material warranty for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance—essentially every failure mode that plagues asphalt, wood, and tile over 20–30 years. It's transferable once to the next owner with a 50-year term from completion, which boosts resale appeal since buyers inherit 40+ years of remaining coverage. You're not guessing about durability; the warranty backs the product's actual track record from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station since 1998.
Is aluminum roofing actually better for the environment?
Yes—about 95% recyclable at end of life, versus asphalt shingles that go straight to landfill. Tear-offs produce waste; Interlock installs over existing roofs, eliminating that step. Because the roof lasts 50+ years instead of 15–20, you replace it far less often, cutting cumulative manufacturing impact and landfill volume over your home's lifespan. The material's light weight also reduces transportation emissions. If environmental responsibility matters in your buying decision, aluminum's recyclability and durability make it measurably better than the asphalt tear-off cycle.
Is a metal roof a good choice for Garden Prairie’s climate?
Yes. Garden Prairie averages about 84 cm of snow, 838 mm of rain, roughly 83 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 100 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
