Review: April 12, 2026Completion: May 30, 2016

We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!

Review: April 3, 2025Completion: July 31, 2024

Very heavy investment, but worth every cent! I worked with John and he was very mindful in planning everything out- especially the finer details of what was needed for the house and for the project. His crew was spectacular in their workmanship and friendliness. The only minor issue I had was the scheduling of the project- which is of nobody's fault. Things get done when they get done and those who are waiting, will be happy they waited. Not exaggerating, many customers will be quite pleased with the end result. I'm one of them. Many thanks, John, crew & Interlock!

Not only was the sales process easy, the installation guys were very respectful of my neighbors and my comfort while they were working. Now that it’s done I absolutely love the roof. It’s already made a huge difference in my electric use for cooling the house!

Review: May 8, 2024Completion: April 29, 2024

We are so proud of our new roof. It is so cool looking, it adds a great deal to the curb-appeal of our house. I also appreciate the security of knowing I'll never have to replace it or worry about it in even the strongest winds. I used to lose shingles in strong windstorms. Interlock was easy to work with. The workers were very respectful of my property and were meticulous about clean up after.

Review: November 30, 2023Completion: October 31, 2023

This project has been a roller coaster: First they were doing a good job, then not, then they assured us of the results and things looked good until we questioned something and they completely dropped the ball. They took our money and never followed up. Communication by Allen Gessell seems to be the weak link. He was horrible and ghosted us. It is a HUGE SHAME that what could have been a wonderful situation has become a fearful nightmare!

I'm really excited and pleased with the roof. I love everything about it in terms of color, style, and installation. Everything was done to our utmost satisfaction. Interlock Roofing could have improved the price. The price was expensive. It was a fantastic experience.

The entire team (from sales to installation) was very clear regarding the timeline and next steps for the entire project. The end product looks great and is a vast improvement compared to the appearance of our prior roof. Good clear communication. No issues on my end.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Irene

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Irene, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Irene.

Will a metal roof handle Irene's freeze-thaw cycles without damage?

Yes. Aluminum expands and contracts with temperature swings, but its oxide layer self-heals when micro-scratches occur—unlike wood or asphalt that crack under repeated freeze-thaw stress. Irene experiences about 81 freeze-thaw days per year across a mean temperature of 10.2°C, and Interlock's roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) is engineered to flex without permanent deformation. The four-way interlocking panels absorb thermal movement without leaking, and the 30-year Alunar PVDF coating resists the resulting salt and moisture exposure common in transitional climates.

Why doesn't aluminum rust like steel roofing does?

Aluminum contains no iron—the element that rusts. When exposed to air and moisture, aluminum develops a thin, transparent oxide layer that protects the metal beneath; if scratched, this layer reforms automatically. Steel roofing, by contrast, oxidizes into iron oxide (rust) that spreads and compromises the material. Given Irene's 853 mm of annual rainfall and 71 cm of snow, Interlock's aluminum panels with dual-sided Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating won't corrode or stain, even under repeated moisture cycles—making aluminum the durable choice for wet climates where steel degrades.

How does metal roofing perform under heavy snow loads in Illinois?

Interlock's metal panels carry snow loads safely and shed it efficiently. Irene averages about 71 cm of snow annually across roughly 3,087 sunshine hours per year—enough winter sun to aid melting without the standing-water risk of low-slope asphalt. The smooth, interlocking aluminum surface sheds snow faster than granulated shingles, and optional metal snow guards prevent dangerous slides. Each profile (Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Tile, Standing Seam) is rated per ICC-ES ESR-1790 for full structural compliance in Illinois snow zones, and the extraordinary lightness (Shingle at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no reinforcement is needed—your existing framing handles it.

Does metal roofing get damaged by hail, and can it lower insurance costs?

No. Interlock's aluminum panels hold a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Unlike asphalt shingles or wood that dent and split easily, aluminum's hardness and four-way interlocking design absorb impact without loss of weather protection. Many insurers recognize this durability and offer discounts on homes with Class 4-rated metal roofs. With wind gusts in Irene reaching 98 km/h and severe weather not uncommon, this resilience translates to real savings and peace of mind over a 30, 50, or lifetime warranty period.

Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?

Over a roof's lifetime, yes. Asphalt shingles last 15–25 years and require tear-off, landfill disposal, and replacement—often multiple times in a homeowner's tenure. Interlock's aluminum roof carries a lifetime limited material warranty for the original owner and one-time transferability to the next owner for 50 years, eliminating re-roofing cycles. In Irene's climate—853 mm rain, 71 cm snow, 81 freeze-thaw days, and 98 km/h gusts—asphalt deteriorates faster. Calculate total cost of ownership: one aluminum roof installed once beats three asphalt replacements. The Guardian Warranty covers rusting, rotting, cracking, and curling, so your roof becomes your last roof.

How does metal roofing withstand Illinois wind and storms?

Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels lock together like a chain-mail system, distributing wind loads across the entire roof surface rather than relying on fasteners alone. The system is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h)—far exceeding Irene's typical gusts of 98 km/h and well above worst-case scenarios. Each panel profile (Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Tile, Standing Seam) meets ICC-ES ESR-1790 structural standards for Illinois wind zones. When properly installed to specification, the interlock geometry prevents uplift and panel separation, giving you durable protection in spring and autumn storm seasons.

Do I need to reinforce my house framing for a metal roof?

No. Interlock's aluminum is extraordinarily light—the Mediterranean Tile profile installs at just 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it about 96% lighter than real concrete or clay tile. Compare that to asphalt shingles at roughly 2–3 lb/sq ft and you'll see why aluminum imposes minimal structural demand. In fact, Interlock installs directly over most existing roofs without tear-off or reinforcement, saving labor and disposal costs. Irene's homes built to standard IRC codes handle this load easily, and the lightweight design reduces stress on walls, foundations, and joists—a genuine structural advantage over traditional materials.

What maintenance does an aluminum metal roof actually require?

Very little. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (warranted 30 years against chalking and fading per ASTM D4214/D2244) sheds debris naturally; simple annual inspection for debris in valleys is sufficient. Unlike wood shake roofing, which requires annual treatment against rot and insects, or clay tile, which cracks and requires replacement, aluminum panels won't split, curl, or degrade. Irene's 853 mm rainfall and 3,087 sunshine hours annually keep the roof clean naturally, and the self-healing oxide layer requires no sealants or special coatings. No pressure washing needed—rinse with a garden hose if desired.

How long does installation take, and can it be done over my existing roof?

Installation typically takes 3–5 days depending on roof complexity and size, with minimal disruption to your daily life. Yes, Interlock installs directly over most existing asphalt or wood shake roofs—no tear-off required. This approach saves disposal costs, reduces labor, and compresses the timeline significantly. Your local Interlock installer has served the region since 2001 and handles permitting, underlayment installation, and flashing work to code (ICC-ES ESR-1790). The four-way interlock system snaps together quickly, and final cleanup is thorough. Your new roof is weather-tight and operational within days, not weeks.

Will metal roofing add value when I sell my home in Irene?

Yes. A metal roof enhances curb appeal with authentic architectural profiles (Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Mediterranean Tile, Standing Seam) that attract buyer interest and command premium pricing. More importantly, buyers recognize the lifetime limited warranty and transferable 50-year coverage as a major asset—they're buying a roof they'll never have to replace. In a region with 71 cm annual snow, 98 km/h wind gusts, and 81 freeze-thaw days, buyers understand that metal roofing is a long-term investment, not a recurring expense. The combination of aesthetic appeal, durability documentation (ESR-1790, UL 2218 Class 4), and warranty transferability makes your home more attractive and justifies a higher asking price at sale.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Irene’s climate?

Yes. Irene averages about 71 cm of snow, 853 mm of rain, roughly 81 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 98 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
