Review: April 12, 2026Completion: May 30, 2016

We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!

Review: April 3, 2025Completion: July 31, 2024

Very heavy investment, but worth every cent! I worked with John and he was very mindful in planning everything out- especially the finer details of what was needed for the house and for the project. His crew was spectacular in their workmanship and friendliness. The only minor issue I had was the scheduling of the project- which is of nobody's fault. Things get done when they get done and those who are waiting, will be happy they waited. Not exaggerating, many customers will be quite pleased with the end result. I'm one of them. Many thanks, John, crew & Interlock!

Not only was the sales process easy, the installation guys were very respectful of my neighbors and my comfort while they were working. Now that it’s done I absolutely love the roof. It’s already made a huge difference in my electric use for cooling the house!

Review: May 8, 2024Completion: April 29, 2024

We are so proud of our new roof. It is so cool looking, it adds a great deal to the curb-appeal of our house. I also appreciate the security of knowing I'll never have to replace it or worry about it in even the strongest winds. I used to lose shingles in strong windstorms. Interlock was easy to work with. The workers were very respectful of my property and were meticulous about clean up after.

Review: November 30, 2023Completion: October 31, 2023

This project has been a roller coaster: First they were doing a good job, then not, then they assured us of the results and things looked good until we questioned something and they completely dropped the ball. They took our money and never followed up. Communication by Allen Gessell seems to be the weak link. He was horrible and ghosted us. It is a HUGE SHAME that what could have been a wonderful situation has become a fearful nightmare!

I'm really excited and pleased with the roof. I love everything about it in terms of color, style, and installation. Everything was done to our utmost satisfaction. Interlock Roofing could have improved the price. The price was expensive. It was a fantastic experience.

The entire team (from sales to installation) was very clear regarding the timeline and next steps for the entire project. The end product looks great and is a vast improvement compared to the appearance of our prior roof. Good clear communication. No issues on my end.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Hunter

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Hunter, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Hunter.

Will metal roofing hold up to Hunter's freeze-thaw cycles?

Yes. Aluminum expands and contracts uniformly, and its oxide layer—which self-heals when scratched—doesn't crack or degrade through freeze-thaw stress. Hunter experiences about 85 freeze-thaw days per year; asphalt becomes brittle in those conditions and splits. Interlock's roofing-grade 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy and four-way interlocking panels allow for natural movement without damage. The Guardian Warranty explicitly covers cracking and splitting, giving you confidence through decades of winter cycles.

How does a metal roof handle Hunter's snowfall?

The Interlock Shake and Slate profiles shed snow safely without accumulating ice dams. Hunter receives about 81 cm of snow annually, plus roughly 863 mm of rain; traditional asphalt collects moisture and becomes heavy and brittle. Aluminum's ultralight weight—the Shingle installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft—means no structural reinforcement is needed, and snow slides cleanly off the interlocking panels. Optional snow guards keep slides controlled. You avoid the freeze-thaw damage that asphalt shingles suffer under repeated snow-and-melt cycles.

Can a metal roof rust in a wet climate like Hunter's?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron; what forms instead is an aluminum oxide layer that self-heals when scratched. This is crucial in climates with heavy moisture. Hunter averages 863 mm of annual rainfall and experiences persistent damp winters; steel roofing corrodes under those conditions, but Interlock's roofing-grade aluminum alloy maintains integrity indefinitely. The Alunar® 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (applied to both sides) is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, adding another protective layer. You're protected against both the material itself failing and cosmetic degradation.

Does metal roofing stay secure in Hunter's wind gusts?

Yes. Hunter's typical gusts reach about 97 km/h; Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels and proper installation are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h). The interlocking design transfers wind load across multiple panels rather than stressing individual fasteners. The ESR-1790 ICC evaluation confirms compliance with IBC/IRC wind requirements. Combined with the light weight—about 0.41 to 0.59 lb/sq ft depending on profile—there's minimal uplift force. Your roof stays secure through seasonal storms.

What's the hail rating on Interlock metal roofing, and can it help with insurance?

Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4, the highest impact rating available, even warranted against perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This non-combustible aluminum construction and proven durability can qualify homeowners for insurance discounts; check with your provider. Hunter's hail risk is lower than the American West, but severe storms do occur regionally. Class 4 impact resistance—rarer than asphalt's Class 1—signals resilience to underwriters. Many insurers reward metal roofing with lower premiums over the roof's 50+ year life, offsetting material cost.

Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost in Hunter?

Yes, when measured across the roof's life. Asphalt typically lasts 15–20 years and requires frequent maintenance; Interlock carries The Guardian—a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner. Hunter's 81 cm annual snowfall, 863 mm rain, and 85 freeze-thaw days accelerate asphalt degradation. Metal avoids the tear-off-to-landfill cycle every two decades. You buy this roof once. The one-time transferable 50-year term for the next owner also protects resale value, making it the last roof you install.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or tile?

Far less. Aluminum doesn't rot, split, curl, or require re-sealing like asphalt. It doesn't crack under freeze-thaw stress like tile or wood. Hunter's climate—85 freeze-thaw days, 81 cm snow, 863 mm rain—stresses low-maintenance roofing. Interlock is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. Periodic debris clearing is sufficient; no annual inspections, no coating reapplications, no moss treatment. The Alunar® finish is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. Over 50+ years, you save thousands in labor and material costs versus the endless maintenance cycle of traditional roofs.

Can Interlock install over my existing roof?

Yes, in most cases. The ultralight weight of Interlock panels—the Tile profile is about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—means no structural reinforcement is needed, and installation over existing asphalt is typically possible. This saves thousands in tear-off labor and landfill fees. A local installer will inspect your roof decking for integrity; if sound, the new roof installs directly over it. The installation is faster than traditional roofing, minimizing disruption. The Guardian Warranty covers the install, so workmanship is guaranteed.

Do metal roofs help with cooling costs in summer?

Yes. Interlock's energy-efficient colors feature initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council. They reflect heat that asphalt absorbs, reducing attic temperature and cooling load. Hunter receives about 3,079 hours of annual sunshine; even in a northern climate, heat gain from dark roofing is measurable across the roof's 50-year life. Over decades, lower AC demand and extended HVAC life offset material cost. A light-colored Slate or Shake profile is particularly effective at keeping your home cooler without mechanical overcooling.

Is aluminum roofing actually recyclable?

Yes, about 95% of Interlock's aluminum panels are recyclable, versus asphalt shingles that end landfills. Hunter sees 863 mm of annual rain and 81 cm of snow; asphalt roofs typically require tear-off replacement every 15–20 years, sending tons of waste to landfill. Aluminum never enters that cycle—it's infinitely recyclable without degradation. When your roof eventually reaches end-of-life (50+ years away), the material retains scrap value and enters the recycling stream rather than a dump. You reduce landfill burden and support material reuse over the roof's exceptional lifespan.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Hunter’s climate?

Yes. Hunter averages about 81 cm of snow, 863 mm of rain, roughly 85 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 97 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
