Review: March 16, 2021Completion: September 9, 2020

Last summer I realized I was in the need of a new roof on my old home which was built in 1876. I was hoping I could find a roof that accentuated the uniqueness and beauty of my old farm-style house. I always dreamed of owning a home with a metal roof, so I thought, well, let’s give this a look and see if it is an option. After searching for roofers and making some calls I found no one in my area offering metal roofs, needless to say, I became discouraged. Then, one day, on Facebook, I happened to see an ad with Midwest Roofing/Interlock Roofing showing the exact type of roof I was looking for!! I was so excited and called the number and was able to have an appointment arranged that very weekend. John came out, did some measuring, got up in my attic, then we sat and had a long, very informative discussion. John was extremely patient with my numerous questions and was able to explain things to me in layman’s terms, as I am not adept in the construction business, at all. So, the nitty gritty…I was originally thinking standing seam going into this whole project but then out came the slate look and oh my, that was it…The roof I had been looking for. It was exactly what needed to be on top of my house!!! And the black color just spoke to me…. John agreed!! Nowhere else had I ever seen a roof like the one I was about to have put on my beloved home. So, the price, while I knew a metal roof was going to cost more, I was looking more for security and peace of mind. I am a single parent of a child on the autism spectrum. I knew that I did not want to deal with roof issues in the future, the struggle to get a roofer to come to fix their problem, and the thought of having to replace it all over again just a few years down the road. Nope, the extra cost of this one-and-done roof was well worth it to me…after all, how do you put a price tag on peace of mind? And there aren’t many things in this world nowadays that can give you that. So, I signed the contract… The delivery…. how exciting…all these boxes lined up in my driveway…it was getting real!! Installation begins. Never in my lifetime have I met such an amazing installation crew, headed by Jesse. These guys worked tirelessly on transforming my average-looking home into the WOW home on the block. They took great care in working around my cupola and rock chimney, making sure everything was sealed where it needed to be, even reinforcing the cupola as it had been up there for so many years. These guys are not just installers, they are truly artists, and the pride in what they do shines in their workmanship. Even the care in the cleanup was amazing…very impressed. Any company can put out an amazing product, but for that product to remain amazing, that company has to have professional team members working with the customers…that is what you will get if you go with Interlock. Not just a stand-out product but a stand-out crew from sales, scheduling, and installation…it’s the whole package.

Review: November 26, 2013Completion: November 9, 2013

We had replaced one roof in the time we had owned our home, and now it was time for the second replacement. I began to wonder if there were any alternatives to old asphalt technology. Also, we had two concerns about asphalt, the first is that it is not clean from an environmental standpoint and second, asphalt is oil based which means its cost is linked with the price of oil. I noticed that many commercial buildings had metal roofs. My wife and I usually do a lot of deep research for major home projects. We began looking into the possibility of replacing the current roof with metal. Our research indicated that there were residential metal roofs available in various metals and styles. Four factors need to be considered. Type of metal. We chose aluminum over steel. It’s lighter and less susceptible to corrosion, although corrosion is not a major factor due to the various coatings and treatments applied to both metals during the manufacturing process. Structural assembly. We liked the Interlock method of attaching the panels to each other and the roof base. When complete, the system is structurally sound and waterproof. Installation process. Installing a metal roof requires experience. Installation is different from that of an asphalt roof. During our research, we had a hard time locating installers that had experience installing residential metal roofs. This was another reason that we chose Interlock. They are associated with installation crews who have the knowledge and experience required for working with the Interlock product. The only other factor to consider is the style and color, and there are many to choose from. Installation was uneventful, the crew was courteous, and they explained exactly what they were doing and answered any questions that we had. The roof looks beautiful, and we have had many compliments on it since it was installed two weeks ago. We are very happy that we chose Interlock for this project and highly recommend them.

Review: May 11, 2017

Our new roof is beautiful! We have received so many compliments and inquiries since our Interlock roof was installed four weeks ago. John delivered on his promise with a quality product and set up the stage for what was to come, answering all our early questions and showing us the information we were looking for to make a confident decision. He provided us with installation pictures of previous jobs, the product specifications, color and type of samples, historical data on product performance and much more. Dal from customer service responded quickly with dates when the material was arriving and dates for the installation. After some concerns about having to travel for work and being out of town, Al communicated well, and they worked around my travel schedule my family appreciated this greatly. The roof is not any louder during several of the storms we have had already than before. Despite a few outside temperatures reaching the 80s and sunny, the inside of the house has stayed cool without needing to turn on the AC or ceiling fans. It really is a new experience to walk into our second-level rooms and not have it feel warmer than the lower level. The installation crew did a great job. They told us everything they were doing and answered all of our questions. The fire department even stopped by during the installation to ask what it was! The crew completed the job in 4 days, working over the weekend to finish before the next storm. They left the yard clean every night, and they cleared out the gutters from all of the debris. After watching the team install the new roof safely, we have come to appreciate the craftsmanship that comes with installing this type of roof. The crews are proud of the product, and their care shows in the installation. Putting on this new roof requires a lot of skill, a lot of hours, and experience that I think new owners won’t realize until observing them and going through it. Minimal waste scraps, efficiently making thousands of measurements and metal shaping to perfectly fit all the corners and bends is a testament to the experience our crew, led by Jesse and Sal, had. This Interlock company has been great and there have been so many people referenced here that have worked to provide us a great customer experience. To the whole team, great job, and thank you. We look forward to the many years this roof will continuously perform as it was designed and the many more times we will appreciate the beauty of it.

Review: May 10, 2021Completion: May 3, 2021

The process was seamless, it was a no-headache, no-hassle experience and the roof looks amazing. The team was fast, respectful, and really took the time to make sure we understood everything that was going on. They were very safe and considerate of my dogs going in and out of the backyard, and took extra time to clean up everything each day, and especially when they finished the job. And not a single plant damaged (which is amazing, because they are planted right up next to the house)! They were friendly and communicative, and took care of everything. It was a great experience, and we now have the most beautiful roof on the block. I think the scheduling team could have been a little bit more proactive in terms of communication in the time between the signing of the contract and the installation, but obviously it all worked out just fine, so they clearly were doing everything they needed to be doing scheduling-wise, and it ultimately didn't influence the experience all that much, especially since John Mondschean (sales) was so accommodating and communicative throughout the process. There have been a lot of new roofs going on in my neighborhood since the big double hailstorm last year, and I can confidently say that ours is the most beautiful, and the team that installed it was the cleanest and most considerate. There was not a single piece of plastic, nail, etc. left behind after they were done, and they were pretty quiet throughout the process, which was important to me as I work from home.

I just want to say the Interlock team did an excellent job installing my roof. The installation team were craftsman, cordial, punctual, and they did a great job of keeping the work site clean at the end of each day. As far as the roof I love the look of the black standing seam with the dark gray Hardie Board siding, and I can already tell that the roof is keeping my house and garage cooler.

Jesse was very professional and knowledgeable about the product. He answered any questions we had about the roof. It all went great! They could have kept me updated instead of me having to continually call for updates. They could have gave me a status but they didn't.

I'm really excited and pleased with the roof. I love everything about it in terms of color, style, and installation. Everything was done to our utmost satisfaction. Interlock Roofing could have improved the price. The price was expensive. It was a fantastic experience.

Areas where flashing needs to extend beyond a vertical surface i.e. chimney's, second story corners, you need a method to provide a more professional look when making cuts in aluminum siding. Happy with my decision to purchase a roof from Interlock. It looks great. Time will tell if it will perform as promised.

Review: July 14, 2021Completion: June 21, 2021

Communication could have been better prior to the project starting. They communicated wonderfully until we paid our down payment. Then communication ceased. There was no communication until we reached out to them expressing our concerns. Once the project started communication was phenomenal. The roof looks extraordinary. We have had some heavy rain and our roof has held up wonderfully and it is beautiful. We believe it is a better quality than others.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Blaine

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Blaine, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Blaine.

Will a metal roof handle Blaine's freeze-thaw cycles without cracking or deteriorating?

Yes—aluminum's crystalline structure actually thrives through freeze-thaw stress. Blaine experiences roughly 85 freeze-thaw days annually, where traditional materials like asphalt, wood, and concrete absorb moisture, expand, contract, and crack. Aluminum does not absorb water. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating bonds to both sides of every panel, sealing out moisture year-round. The Guardian Warranty explicitly covers cracking and splitting for the original owner's lifetime, giving you certainty through decades of temperature swings across your 9.7°C mean climate.

How does an Interlock metal roof handle heavy snow and ice in northern Illinois?

Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow and ice reliably without water pooling behind dams. Blaine averages about 81 centimeters of snow annually and 863 millimeters of rain, creating real load challenges. At just 0.41 lb/sq ft for the Shingle profile, aluminum adds almost no weight to your structure—you won't need reinforcement—yet the panels lock together with a strength rated to resist winds over 120 mph, so snow load is well within their design envelope. Snow guards are available if you want additional control.

Can a metal roof rust in an area with heavy rain and snow like Blaine?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron; instead, it forms a microscopically thin oxide layer that actually self-heals when scratched. Steel roofing rusts through salt air and road salt, but Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy, the same material installed from coastal Canadian homes to Antarctic research stations since 1998. With Blaine's 863 mm annual rainfall, water exposure is constant, but it will never oxidize this metal. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (warranted 30 years against fading) adds a second protective barrier, so corrosion simply isn't a failure mode.

Will my homeowner's insurance offer a discount for a UL Class 4 hail-rated roof?

Many insurers do offer discounts for Class 4 impact-rated roofs, though your agent will confirm your policy's terms. Interlock meets UL 2218 Class 4, the highest impact rating available—the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Blaine sits in a region where severe convective weather is a real concern. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 code evaluation and Intertek UL listing 33876 give underwriters concrete confidence that Interlock will survive the impacts that compromise traditional roofs. Contact your insurer with these credentials to discuss premium reduction.

How much maintenance does a metal roof really need compared to asphalt or tile?

Interlock requires virtually no maintenance: no seasonal inspections, no repairs, no sealant reapplication. Asphalt shingles need regular inspection for deterioration; wood shakes must be treated and replaced; concrete tile requires pressure washing and resealing. Blaine's 3079 annual sunshine hours and freeze-thaw cycling accelerate asphalt aging. Aluminum develops no rot, splits, or curling—the CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance burden. Gutters may collect debris as they would under any roof, but the roof itself remains inert. The Guardian Warranty covers impact resistance without degradation, so you're protected for decades without out-of-pocket upkeep.

Can reflective metal roofing actually lower cooling costs in a climate like Blaine's?

Yes—energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect solar heat that asphalt absorbs and radiates into your attic. Peak summer temperatures in Blaine rarely demand aggressive cooling, but spring and fall temperature swings (mean 9.7°C annually) benefit from a roof that doesn't trap radiant heat. Interlock's energy-efficient finishes achieve initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, measured by Cool Roof Rating Council standards. Over a 50-year roof life, that translance reduces cumulative cooling load and humidity stress inside your home, easing both comfort and utility costs without any active maintenance.

Is the upfront cost of a metal roof worth it over a traditional asphalt roof's lifetime?

Yes, when you account for the full lifecycle. Asphalt roofs last 15–25 years and require tear-off, disposal, and complete replacement. Interlock carries a lifetime limited NON-prorated Guardian Warranty for the original owner—meaning no wear-out deductible—plus a one-time transferable 50-year term for the next owner. Over 50 years in Blaine's 81 cm snow, 863 mm rain, and freeze-thaw cycles, you'll install asphalt 2–3 times at compounding cost and waste. Aluminum never rots, rusts, or splits. You install Interlock once and own the outcome.

Is recycled metal roofing better for the environment than asphalt shingles?

Yes—approximately 95% of Interlock aluminum is recyclable, and the panels themselves are made from recycled sources. Each asphalt replacement tears off old shingles that end up in landfills; Blaine homeowners who reroof twice in 50 years send multiple roof volumes to waste. Aluminum's permanence breaks that cycle. When Interlock finally reaches end-of-life (unlikely in your ownership), the entire roof recycles into new products—cars, aircraft, building stock. No petroleum-based coating degrades into the environment. No fiberglass ends up in soil. A metal roof installed today is simply a permanent resource cycling through the economy, not a consumable dumped after 20 years.

Will Interlock's interlocking panels hold in Blaine's wind gusts and storms?

Yes—Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h). Blaine's typical daily-max winds run about 19 km/h, with gusts historically reaching 97 km/h, so the warranty covers your severest weather with a comfortable margin. Each panel interlocks at all four edges, distributing wind load across the entire roof plane rather than relying on fasteners alone. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms compliance with IBC/IRC wind load tables. Even in severe convective events, Interlock's engineering ensures panels stay secured while traditional asphalt shingles lift and tear.

Who installs Interlock metal roofing in Blaine, and how long has the company been serving the area?

Interlock Metal Roofing, the manufacturer's authorized installer, has served the Blaine region and Boone County since 2001—over two decades of local experience. That tenure means the team understands Blaine's specific climate demands: heavy snow load, frequent freeze-thaw cycling, and periodic wind events. They know which profiles perform best here (Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Mediterranean Tile, and Standing Seam are all featured locally), how to integrate with local building codes, and how to install over existing roofs when weight and complexity make replacement risky. Local expertise plus manufacturer backing ensures your system is installed to spec and covered under The Guardian Warranty.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Blaine’s climate?

Yes. Blaine averages about 81 cm of snow, 863 mm of rain, roughly 85 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 97 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
