Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Leroy Township, Illinois
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!
Very heavy investment, but worth every cent! I worked with John and he was very mindful in planning everything out- especially the finer details of what was needed for the house and for the project. His crew was spectacular in their workmanship and friendliness. The only minor issue I had was the scheduling of the project- which is of nobody's fault. Things get done when they get done and those who are waiting, will be happy they waited. Not exaggerating, many customers will be quite pleased with the end result. I'm one of them. Many thanks, John, crew & Interlock!
Not only was the sales process easy, the installation guys were very respectful of my neighbors and my comfort while they were working. Now that it’s done I absolutely love the roof. It’s already made a huge difference in my electric use for cooling the house!
We are so proud of our new roof. It is so cool looking, it adds a great deal to the curb-appeal of our house. I also appreciate the security of knowing I'll never have to replace it or worry about it in even the strongest winds. I used to lose shingles in strong windstorms. Interlock was easy to work with. The workers were very respectful of my property and were meticulous about clean up after.
This project has been a roller coaster: First they were doing a good job, then not, then they assured us of the results and things looked good until we questioned something and they completely dropped the ball. They took our money and never followed up. Communication by Allen Gessell seems to be the weak link. He was horrible and ghosted us. It is a HUGE SHAME that what could have been a wonderful situation has become a fearful nightmare!
I'm really excited and pleased with the roof. I love everything about it in terms of color, style, and installation. Everything was done to our utmost satisfaction. Interlock Roofing could have improved the price. The price was expensive. It was a fantastic experience.
Scheduling
I think Interlock Roofing could have improved on the timing and having more flexibility in terms of when the project starts.
Communication on delivery and actual start time
The entire team (from sales to installation) was very clear regarding the timeline and next steps for the entire project. The end product looks great and is a vast improvement compared to the appearance of our prior roof. Good clear communication. No issues on my end.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Leroy Township
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Leroy Township, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Leroy Township.
Does a metal roof handle Boone County's snow and ice buildup?
Yes—the four-way interlocking panels and smooth surface actually shed snow more efficiently than asphalt. Leroy Township averages about 81 cm of snow annually with roughly 85 freeze-thaw cycles per year, which is exactly where aluminum's non-rusting properties outperform steel or traditional materials. The lightweight design (Slate installs at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural reinforcement needed, and you can add snow guards where desired. Ice dams form from heat loss through the roof deck, not the roofing material itself—proper attic ventilation matters more than surface type.
Will freeze-thaw cycles damage an aluminum metal roof?
No. Aluminum's oxide layer doesn't crack, split, or absorb water the way wood, asphalt, or concrete do when frozen and thawed repeatedly. With about 85 freeze-thaw days annually in Leroy Township, this durability advantage is significant. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) and the Alunar® 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (both sides) are engineered for exactly these conditions—from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctic research stations. The material simply doesn't degrade under expansion and contraction cycles.
Can my existing roof framing handle a metal roof, or do I need reinforcement?
You almost certainly don't need reinforcement. The Interlock Slate profile weighs just 0.41 lb/sq ft, the Mediterranean Tile only 0.59 lb/sq ft—approximately 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Asphalt shingles weigh roughly 2–3 lb/sq ft, so metal is actually lighter than what your home may already support. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 confirms this for code compliance across the IRC/IBC. Most homes in Leroy Township can upgrade directly over the existing roof without structural work, saving time and cost.
Will a metal roof stay secure in Boone County wind and hail storms?
Yes. The four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist sustained winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h). Leroy Township's typical gusts reach 97 km/h, well below that threshold. For hail impact, the Shake and Slate profiles achieve UL 2218 Class 4 rating—the highest available—and are covered by the Guardian warranty against perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. The interlocking mechanism distributes lateral loads across adjacent panels, so individual fasteners never carry the entire wind load alone. This design delivers both security and confidence in severe weather.
Can a metal roof qualify me for homeowners insurance discounts?
Possibly. Some insurers offer discounts for Class A fire-rated roofing or impact-resistant materials. The Interlock Slate and Shake profiles hold UL 2218 Class 4 impact certification, and all profiles are available with Class A non-combustible fire rating. Contact your insurance agent with the product specification sheet and ICC-ES ESR-1790 report to ask whether your policy qualifies for hail, wind, or fire-resistance discounts. Many carriers recognize metal roofing as loss-reduction infrastructure, though discounts vary by insurer and policy terms.
What's the actual lifespan of an Interlock metal roof, and is the warranty real?
The Guardian warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—it covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance with no dollar limit and no time-based phase-down. It's one-time transferable to the next owner, providing 50 years of coverage from completion. That structure exists because aluminum simply doesn't fail like asphalt, wood, or slate do. In real terms, homes with Interlock roofs installed since 1998 in widely varied climates (from salt-air coasts to Leroy Township's freeze-thaw cycles) continue performing without major claims or failures.
Is a metal roof worth the higher upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?
Over the life of the roof, yes. Asphalt typically requires replacement every 15–25 years; you'll buy it multiple times. Interlock costs more initially but eliminates the tear-off-to-landfill cycle—about 95% of the aluminum is recyclable at end of life, versus asphalt that sits in landfills for decades. Leroy Township's 863 mm annual rainfall and 81 cm snow mean frequent freeze-thaw stress; asphalt deteriorates faster under these conditions. No maintenance, no emergency repairs from splits or curling, and the transferable 50-year warranty to the next owner enhance resale appeal. The math favors one roof rather than three replacements over 45 years.
How much maintenance does a metal roof really need in Illinois?
Minimal. Unlike asphalt (which requires regular inspection for splits and curling), slate (which can crack), or clay tile (which breaks and leaks), aluminum doesn't degrade from weather exposure. Twice-yearly gutter cleaning and leaves clearing—tasks any roof requires—are essentially your only maintenance. The Alunar® 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214 / D2244 measured), so no repainting. Leroy Township's 3,079 sunshine hours annually won't fade the coating appreciably within that window. CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance obligations compared to traditional roofing.
Can you install a metal roof directly over my existing shingles?
Yes, in most cases. Because the Interlock Slate and Shake profiles weigh only 0.41–0.58 lb/sq ft, installation over an existing single layer of asphalt is typically code-compliant under IRC/IBC (confirmed in ESR-1790). The lightweight design eliminates costly tear-off and disposal. Your installer will inspect the deck for rot or structural issues first; if found, those are addressed before installation. The process is faster than traditional tear-off reroofs, and you avoid the 2–3 week disruption of hauling shingles to the landfill. Interlock Metal Roofing has served this region since 2001 and can assess your specific roof during a site visit.
Is a metal roof actually better for the environment than asphalt?
Measurably, yes. Approximately 95% of aluminum roofing is recyclable; asphalt shingles are not and contribute billions of tons to landfills annually in North America. Every time an asphalt roof fails—roughly every 15–25 years—the old material goes to waste. An Interlock roof, lasting decades longer, dramatically reduces landfill burden. Additionally, energy-efficient colors reflect solar heat (up to 0.55 initial solar reflectance on Aged Copper Penny), reducing cooling loads in warm months and lowering grid demand. For a region with about 3,079 sunshine hours per year, that reflectivity counts. Aluminum's non-toxic manufacturing and end-of-life recyclability align with CALGreen sustainability standards.
Is a metal roof a good choice for Leroy Township’s climate?
Yes. Leroy Township averages about 81 cm of snow, 863 mm of rain, roughly 85 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 97 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
