Review: April 12, 2026Completion: May 30, 2016

We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!

Review: April 3, 2025Completion: July 31, 2024

Very heavy investment, but worth every cent! I worked with John and he was very mindful in planning everything out- especially the finer details of what was needed for the house and for the project. His crew was spectacular in their workmanship and friendliness. The only minor issue I had was the scheduling of the project- which is of nobody's fault. Things get done when they get done and those who are waiting, will be happy they waited. Not exaggerating, many customers will be quite pleased with the end result. I'm one of them. Many thanks, John, crew & Interlock!

Not only was the sales process easy, the installation guys were very respectful of my neighbors and my comfort while they were working. Now that it’s done I absolutely love the roof. It’s already made a huge difference in my electric use for cooling the house!

Review: May 8, 2024Completion: April 29, 2024

We are so proud of our new roof. It is so cool looking, it adds a great deal to the curb-appeal of our house. I also appreciate the security of knowing I'll never have to replace it or worry about it in even the strongest winds. I used to lose shingles in strong windstorms. Interlock was easy to work with. The workers were very respectful of my property and were meticulous about clean up after.

Review: November 30, 2023Completion: October 31, 2023

This project has been a roller coaster: First they were doing a good job, then not, then they assured us of the results and things looked good until we questioned something and they completely dropped the ball. They took our money and never followed up. Communication by Allen Gessell seems to be the weak link. He was horrible and ghosted us. It is a HUGE SHAME that what could have been a wonderful situation has become a fearful nightmare!

I'm really excited and pleased with the roof. I love everything about it in terms of color, style, and installation. Everything was done to our utmost satisfaction. Interlock Roofing could have improved the price. The price was expensive. It was a fantastic experience.

The entire team (from sales to installation) was very clear regarding the timeline and next steps for the entire project. The end product looks great and is a vast improvement compared to the appearance of our prior roof. Good clear communication. No issues on my end.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Flora Township

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Flora Township, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Flora Township.

Will a metal roof hold up through Flora Township's freeze-thaw cycles?

Yes—aluminum actually thrives in freeze-thaw conditions because it has no iron and cannot rust, even when water seeps into microscopic scratches during the about 81 freeze-thaw days per year in Boone County. The material's oxide layer self-heals automatically, so repeated expansion and contraction from temperature swings (typical daily highs and lows) won't degrade the roofing itself. The Alunar® 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214), protecting the aluminum substrate through decades of local freeze-thaw cycling that would compromise asphalt shingles.

How does metal roofing perform under Flora Township's snow load?

With about 71 cm of annual snowfall, your roof needs material that sheds rather than absorbs—Interlock panels do both. The four-way interlocking design locks panels edge-to-edge, preventing moisture migration, while the extraordinarily light weight (the Slate profile installs at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural reinforcement is needed, even in heavy snow years. You can add snow guards where needed for code compliance, and the sloped profiles promote shedding. Snow sitting on traditional asphalt absorbs water; Interlock's aluminum reflects meltwater away, reducing ice-dam risk during the seasonal thaw cycles typical of Boone County winters.

Can a metal roof withstand the winds we get in Flora Township?

Absolutely—your roof is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to spec, far exceeding the gusts of about 98 km/h recorded in Boone County. The four-way interlocking panels lock together mechanically so that wind pressure doesn't separate them; the system is engineered to distribute load across the entire roof rather than relying on fasteners alone. This is why Interlock panels have been installed from coastal salt-air homes (where wind and moisture both stress a roof) to an Antarctic research station, where extreme conditions are non-negotiable.

Will an aluminum metal roof rust in Flora Township's rainy climate?

No. Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the two key elements needed for rust formation. Instead, aluminum develops an oxide layer that's only millionths of an inch thick but self-heals whenever the surface is scratched, re-forming automatically. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) is the same material used in coastal salt-air installations where corrosion risk is highest; the Alunar® 70% PVDF coating applied to both panel sides adds 30 years of warranted protection. In Flora Township's climate of about 853 mm annual rainfall, this means zero rust risk over the roof's lifetime.

What's the hail impact rating, and could it lower my insurance costs?

Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4—the highest impact rating available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This non-combustible aluminum construction may qualify you for insurance discounts; contact your agent with the ICC-ES evaluation report (ESR-1790) and UL listing (33876). In Boone County, where hail can occur during severe storms, Class 4 impact resistance provides genuine peace of mind that asphalt shingles simply cannot match. Many insurers recognize the durability advantage and reward it.

Do metal roofs really help lower cooling costs?

Yes—Interlock's energy-efficient colors reflect rather than absorb solar heat, with initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84 (Cool Roof Rating Council rated). In Flora Township, where you average about 3,087 sunshine hours annually, choosing a reflective color like Aged Copper Penny means less heat enters your home on clear days, reducing air-conditioning load. Unlike asphalt, which absorbs and radiates that heat inward, aluminum reflects it back to the sky. Over a 50-year roof life, the cumulative cooling savings can be substantial, especially during the warmer months.

How much upkeep does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or tile?

Metal requires almost none. Asphalt shingles degrade in UV light and need replacement within 15–20 years; wood shakes split and rot; clay or concrete tile cracks and requires individual piece replacement. Interlock aluminum is verified CALGreen for reduced maintenance—the four-way interlocking panels shed water automatically, the Alunar® finish resists chalking (warranted 30 years), and the material won't rot, split, or curl no matter how often Flora Township's ~71 cm annual snow or ~853 mm rain cycles through. Occasional gutter cleaning and debris removal is all that's needed.

Can my existing roof structure support a metal roof, or do I need reinforcement?

You likely won't need any reinforcement. The Interlock Mediterranean Tile profile—which replicates the look of heavy concrete or clay tile—installs at only 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it about 96% lighter than the real thing. This means most homes can install Interlock over their existing asphalt roof without structural modifications, saving thousands in reinforcement costs. The ICC-ES evaluation report (ESR-1790) confirms compliance with building codes, and the light weight is why installations range from residential homes to Antarctic research stations without special engineering.

Is metal roofing actually more sustainable than asphalt shingles?

Yes—aluminum is about 95% recyclable, and Interlock panels can be reclaimed and reused at end of life. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, are tossed into landfills by the millions of tons each year; removing and replacing them is an environmental cycle that repeats every 15–20 years. Over Flora Township's ~81 freeze-thaw days per year, asphalt degrades faster, shortening replacement cycles. An Interlock roof lasts a lifetime (covered by the Guardian Warranty), meaning you install once and break the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle entirely. That's genuine environmental responsibility.

What warranty protection do I actually get, and does it transfer if I sell?

The Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner—it covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. If you sell, the warranty transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion. This means you're installing the last roof you'll ever buy, and your home's next owner gets 50 years of protection too. That transferability is a genuine curb-appeal and resale advantage in Flora Township's market, because buyers see that the roof is covered and won't fail during their tenure.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Flora Township’s climate?

Yes. Flora Township averages about 71 cm of snow, 853 mm of rain, roughly 81 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 98 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
