Review: April 12, 2026Completion: May 30, 2016

We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!

Review: April 3, 2025Completion: July 31, 2024

Very heavy investment, but worth every cent! I worked with John and he was very mindful in planning everything out- especially the finer details of what was needed for the house and for the project. His crew was spectacular in their workmanship and friendliness. The only minor issue I had was the scheduling of the project- which is of nobody's fault. Things get done when they get done and those who are waiting, will be happy they waited. Not exaggerating, many customers will be quite pleased with the end result. I'm one of them. Many thanks, John, crew & Interlock!

Not only was the sales process easy, the installation guys were very respectful of my neighbors and my comfort while they were working. Now that it’s done I absolutely love the roof. It’s already made a huge difference in my electric use for cooling the house!

Review: May 8, 2024Completion: April 29, 2024

We are so proud of our new roof. It is so cool looking, it adds a great deal to the curb-appeal of our house. I also appreciate the security of knowing I'll never have to replace it or worry about it in even the strongest winds. I used to lose shingles in strong windstorms. Interlock was easy to work with. The workers were very respectful of my property and were meticulous about clean up after.

Review: November 30, 2023Completion: October 31, 2023

This project has been a roller coaster: First they were doing a good job, then not, then they assured us of the results and things looked good until we questioned something and they completely dropped the ball. They took our money and never followed up. Communication by Allen Gessell seems to be the weak link. He was horrible and ghosted us. It is a HUGE SHAME that what could have been a wonderful situation has become a fearful nightmare!

I'm really excited and pleased with the roof. I love everything about it in terms of color, style, and installation. Everything was done to our utmost satisfaction. Interlock Roofing could have improved the price. The price was expensive. It was a fantastic experience.

The entire team (from sales to installation) was very clear regarding the timeline and next steps for the entire project. The end product looks great and is a vast improvement compared to the appearance of our prior roof. Good clear communication. No issues on my end.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Caledonia Township

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Caledonia Township, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Caledonia Township.

How does a metal roof handle Caledonia's snow and ice buildup?

Metal roofs shed snow more readily than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface doesn't trap moisture the way granules do—and with about 81 centimeters of snow per year here, that matters. The four-way interlocking panels bond so tightly that ice can't work its way underneath, which is critical during the roughly 85 freeze-thaw cycles Caledonia sees annually. Add snow guards if you want to control where the snow exits, and you'll never have to worry about ice dams rotting your fascia or gutters the way asphalt roofs do in this climate.

Why does freeze-thaw damage asphalt roofs but not aluminum?

Asphalt absorbs moisture—when water freezes and expands inside it during Caledonia's 85 freeze-thaw days annually, the material cracks and curls. Aluminum is inert and doesn't absorb water, so freezing and thawing can't damage the substrate. The 3105-H24 aluminum alloy used in Interlock panels contains zero iron, which means there's no corrosion pathway, and the oxide layer that forms on aluminum actually self-heals when scratched. After 120+ years of freeze-thaw data from other cold climates, aluminum roofs outlast everything else in these conditions.

Is metal roofing prone to rust in a Midwest climate?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—rust requires iron oxide. Interlock roofing uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy, and even when the aluminum surface is scratched, it forms a new oxide layer automatically within hours. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating is applied to both sides of the panel, offering an extra layer of protection. With about 863 millimeters of annual rainfall here, that dual-sided coating (warranted 30 years against chalking and fading) is insurance against moisture; steel roofs would be rusting away underneath by now.

Can a metal roof handle Caledonia's wind gusts?

Yes—Interlock metal roofing is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 miles per hour when installed to specification, and our area typically sees gusts around 97 kilometers per hour. The four-way interlocking panels lock together on all sides, which distributes wind load across the entire roof plane instead of letting wind peel up corner panels the way it does with shingles. That mechanical grip is what gives you the confidence to keep your roof through the gusty springs and winters Boone County throws at you.

Does hail damage metal roofing, and can it lower insurance costs?

UL 2218 Class 4 is the highest hail impact rating available, and Interlock panels carry it—meaning they've passed impact tests equivalent to 50-millimeter steel balls dropped from 20 feet. The warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Because aluminum is so light (the Shingle profile weighs just 0.41 pounds per square foot), impact energy doesn't crush it the way it does heavier materials—it flexes and absorbs the blow. Many insurers offer discounts on premiums for Class 4 roofing; check with yours about how this rating translates to your policy.

Do I need to reinforce my home's structure for a metal roof?

No. The Interlock Mediterranean Tile profile installs at just 0.59 pounds per square foot—roughly 96% lighter than real clay or concrete tile—so your existing framing handles it without any upgrades. You can even install metal roofing directly over your existing asphalt shingles in most cases, which saves money on tear-off and disposal. Traditional tile would require expensive structural reinforcement; aluminum gives you the look without the weight penalty, and with about 3,079 sunshine hours per year in Caledonia, that lighter roof also reflects and releases heat more efficiently than a heavy tile installation.

Will a metal roof keep my home cooler in summer?

energy-efficient colors with initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (like Aged Copper Penny) reflect sunlight that asphalt absorbs and converts to heat. The thermal emissivity of 0.84 means the roof radiates absorbed heat back out efficiently, rather than storing it. With about 3,079 sunshine hours annually in this region, a reflective metal roof can noticeably reduce air-conditioning load. The cooler roof surface also extends the life of your cooling system by reducing cycling stress—a real win over the long haul compared to a dark asphalt roof that heats your attic all summer.

How long does a metal roof actually last, and what does the warranty cover?

Interlock carries The Guardian lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's also one-time transferable, which means the next owner gets 50 years of coverage from completion—a major resale advantage. The aluminum substrate won't degrade in your lifetime, the Alunar coating is warranted 30 years against fading, and the engineering behind the four-way interlock has been proven since 1998 across climates from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctica. That's the last roof you'll buy.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?

Metal roofing requires virtually no maintenance. Unlike asphalt shingles (which lose granules and deteriorate), wood shakes (which split and rot, especially in Caledonia's 85 annual freeze-thaw cycles), or clay tile (which requires regular regrouting), aluminum panels don't degrade, splinter, or leak at seams. You don't pressure-wash it, don't replace fasteners, and don't apply sealant every few years. Rain and snow clean it naturally. The CALGreen-verified reduced-maintenance profile means lower long-term cost of ownership and zero surprise repairs—that peace of mind alone is worth the initial investment.

Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost versus asphalt shingles?

Upfront, metal costs more; over the roof's life, it's far cheaper. An asphalt roof lasts 15–20 years in this climate and then gets torn off and sent to a landfill—and you'll do that twice before a metal roof ever wears out. With roughly 863 millimeters of rain and 81 centimeters of snow annually, asphalt fails faster here due to moisture absorption and freeze-thaw damage. Interlock's lifetime warranty, zero maintenance, no tear-offs, and one-time transferable 50-year term for the next owner mean you're paying once and never again. Factor in potential insurance discounts for Class A fire rating and UL 2218 Class 4 hail resistance, and the math shifts decisively in metal's favor over 40+ years.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Caledonia Township’s climate?

Yes. Caledonia Township averages about 81 cm of snow, 863 mm of rain, roughly 85 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 97 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
