Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Durham, Oregon
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
I would have liked to see better communication between the person doing the scheduling and the installation crew. I think they should start the job earlier in the day than they did. I love my roof and it looks beautiful.
Interlock was a great process, their sales team was very helpful and knowledgeable, the install team had the old roofing removed and the new one installed in a few days. We chose the black "slate" panels and it looks awesome and it doesn't sound much different in the rain than our old asphalt shingles. A bit of an investment but I'm glad we went with interlock.
We were so impressed with Interlock Roofing. The entire process was great from sales, to installation to clean up. They made the process easy even when we had a few curveballs for them. They worked with us wonderfully the entire time and our roof looks amazing. The installation team was so nice and respectful. Our roof is beautiful.
It's expensive, but other than that - a great roof. Interlock Roofing could have improved on their communication between salesman and installers.
Interlock Roofing did a very good job of installing our roof. I was worried that it would be a little too hard to do this in the middle of winter, but they did a great job. I would recommend this company to anyone contemplating a metal roof for their home. The only negative comment I have is the clean-up could have been a bit better. I covered my gutters after the roof was installed, and found a lot of debris in the gutters as well as on the ground. The debris were mostly pieces of cut metal tiles with very sharp edges. In fact I found this debris on the ground for several months after the job was completed. I suspect that the installation crew was cold and tired and may not have taken as much time as they normally would have because of the weather. Our expectations of this medium ( metal) was fully confirmed and we couldn't be happier with our choice. Thank you Ralf C.
We live in Tigard Oregon. We were able to schedule the installation of the new roof just before the Rainy season began. We had the old shingles removed and found that our plywood was rotting and that it could not support the nails for the new metal roof. Interlock removed the rotting plywood and then we found that some of the supporting roof truss pieces were also rotting and cracking. So Interlock also replaced them. The price for the additional work was reasonable and though it all took longer to accomplish the goal, they worked hard and efficiently and it was completed before it began raining seriously. We continue to be thankful and we enjoy our new roof!
with the price of the product and the amount of delays I would not recommend this product. Deliver on the start dates.
We are just trying to put together a list of things we need to do before we call you guys to come do our roof.
Would like more information on financing and terms.
Being able to pay with credit card also.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Durham
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Durham, Oregon. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Durham.
Does a metal roof handle heavy rain better than asphalt shingles in Durham?
Yes — aluminum's four-way interlocking panels shed water faster than asphalt, and the design compresses tighter when wet. Durham receives about 1208 mm of rain annually, often in extended wet periods. A solid deck and proper underlayment make Interlock roofs as quiet and leak-resistant as asphalt, with the added advantage that aluminum won't absorb or retain moisture the way shingles do. Water simply runs off; there's no saturation risk.
Will my insurance company give me a discount for a metal roof rated for hail?
Many insurers do offer hail-impact discounts for roofs with UL 2218 Class 4 ratings — Interlock's top impact classification. Check with your agent, as discounts vary by carrier and policy. Interlock's warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. In Washington County's climate, where wind gusts reach 120 km/h and freeze-thaw cycles occur about 37 days per year, that Class 4 rating often qualifies for measurable savings that offset installation costs over time.
Can a metal roof stand up to Durham's winter wind gusts?
Absolutely. Interlock panels are warranted to resist winds up to 120 mph, and your region sees gusts reaching 120 km/h with the four-way interlocking design creating redundant fastening paths. That means each panel is held from four directions, so wind pressure on one edge doesn't lift the roof. Combined with about 37 annual freeze-thaw cycles that weaken asphalt bonds, metal's mechanical lock-and-hold approach keeps your roof sealed year after year.
Why can't aluminum metal roofing rust like steel does?
Aluminum contains no iron — the element that rusts when exposed to moisture. Instead, aluminum's oxide layer forms instantly when exposed to air and self-heals when scratched or damaged. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) with a dual-sided Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating warranted 30 years against fading. In Durham's 1208 mm annual rainfall and 29 cm of snow, that non-rusting core means no rust blooms, no structural decay, and no surprise repairs decades in.
Do I need to reinforce my roof framing for a metal tile roof?
No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft — roughly 96% lighter than real concrete or clay tile — so your existing framing handles it without upgrades. In fact, the light weight lets Interlock install directly over most existing roofs, avoiding costly tear-off and landfill fees. Durham's 29 cm annual snow load poses no structural concern; the weight of aluminum is negligible compared to what your rafters already support.
How long does a metal roof last, and what does the warranty actually cover?
Interlock's Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for you as the original owner — covering rust, rot, splitting, cracking, curling, and impact-resistance loss. It's transferable once: the next owner receives 50 years of coverage from completion. That one-time transfer gives you a genuine selling advantage. Most asphalt roofs fail within 15–25 years; this is the last roof you'll buy, and the warranty backs that promise for as long as you own the home.
Will an Interlock metal roof reduce my cooling costs?
energy-efficient colors with up to 0.55 initial solar reflectance (Aged Copper Penny) and 0.84 emissivity reflect heat rather than absorbing it like asphalt does. In Durham, with about 3033 annual sunshine hours and summer highs that pull your AC on clear days, that reflectivity cuts cooling demand. You won't see dramatic savings in Oregon's mild climate, but the Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms measurable reduction. Combined with no heat-trapping shingle granules degrading over time, the energy edge compounds across decades.
What maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or tile?
Virtually none — that's the practical advantage. Asphalt requires periodic inspections and granule-loss repair; real slate and tile need regrouting and individual piece replacement. Interlock aluminum is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. Twice-yearly gutter cleaning handles debris from nearby trees, but the roof itself resists algae growth, won't curl or split in Durham's 37 annual freeze-thaw cycles, and doesn't degrade under the 1208 mm rainfall. You get a roof that performs without becoming a maintenance project.
Is a metal roof actually better for the environment than asphalt shingles?
Yes — Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable, and the panels never need replacement, so you avoid the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle entirely. A typical asphalt roof replacement generates several tons of waste per home; that burden repeats every 15–25 years across millions of homes. With a lifetime warranty covering the original owner, Interlock breaks that cycle. Durham's 1208 mm annual rain and 29 cm snow won't degrade aluminum; it simply performs for decades while asphalt degrades predictably.
Who installs Interlock metal roofs in Durham, and how experienced are they?
Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served the region since 1997 — 27 years of local experience. They understand Washington County's climate: the 1208 mm annual rain, 120 km/h gusts, and 37 freeze-thaw days that demand precise installation. As manufacturer-certified installers, they ensure your four-way interlocking panels and wind warranty are installed to spec. Current promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation. Local service means accountability, faster response, and installers who know your neighborhood's weather challenges.
Is a metal roof a good choice for Durham’s climate?
Yes. Durham averages about 29 cm of snow, 1208 mm of rain, roughly 37 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 120 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
