| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |

What our customers are saying:
Interlock was a great process, their sales team was very helpful and knowledgeable, the install team had the old roofing removed and the new one installed in a few days. We chose the black "slate" panels and it looks awesome and it doesn't sound much different in the rain than our old asphalt shingles. A bit of an investment but I'm glad we went with interlock.
We were so impressed with Interlock Roofing. The entire process was great from sales, to installation to clean up. They made the process easy even when we had a few curveballs for them. They worked with us wonderfully the entire time and our roof looks amazing. The installation team was so nice and respectful. Our roof is beautiful.
Interlock Roofing did a very good job of installing our roof. I was worried that it would be a little too hard to do this in the middle of winter, but they did a great job. I would recommend this company to anyone contemplating a metal roof for their home. The only negative comment I have is the clean-up could have been a bit better. I covered my gutters after the roof was installed, and found a lot of debris in the gutters as well as on the ground. The debris were mostly pieces of cut metal tiles with very sharp edges. In fact I found this debris on the ground for several months after the job was completed. I suspect that the installation crew was cold and tired and may not have taken as much time as they normally would have because of the weather. Our expectations of this medium ( metal) was fully confirmed and we couldn't be happier with our choice. Thank you Ralf C.
We live in Tigard Oregon. We were able to schedule the installation of the new roof just before the Rainy season began. We had the old shingles removed and found that our plywood was rotting and that it could not support the nails for the new metal roof. Interlock removed the rotting plywood and then we found that some of the supporting roof truss pieces were also rotting and cracking. So Interlock also replaced them. The price for the additional work was reasonable and though it all took longer to accomplish the goal, they worked hard and efficiently and it was completed before it began raining seriously. We continue to be thankful and we enjoy our new roof!
Fast response and excellent work. The technician drop by within couple of days, found the cause, and provided quote. The price was reasonable for the work scope. They were able to secure the work slot as soon as the raining season was over and kept me informed on the schedule. In addition, they inspected remaining roof as well. Note: the leak was due to gutter pulling the corner flashing. The 10+ year Interlock roof tile remained good.
Prompt, ongoing communication from bid to follow up after completion. Install crew was professional and polite. We had an involved tear-off and they spread tarps overnight in case of dew. Finished job looks great.
Roof looks amazing, install team was very professional kept the area very clean every day.
Interlock roof is the best. That is 12-15 years after we first got it. Perfect condition still! Never a second thought. Thanks
Interlock handled our roofing project with skill and expertise. Many other local roofers ran away from even bidding the job due to the complexity of our roof line. The result is exquisite and I'm hopeful any further service needed over the years will go just as smoothly as the install did. Positive, Quality, Value, Services: Roof installation
They installed an amazing IB membrane that makes the house look great. They suggested this product for my price range and expectations for a lifetime roof!
We had already decided on a metal roof when we came across Interlock. It was one of those things where we were looking for a product with a quality standard that could match up to what we wanted. I’ll say this, Interlock works a bit differently from most of the roofing people we talked to. You’re going to talk to a sales person at your home visit, but don’t let that put you off. They’re knowledgeable and if you haven’t done your research, there will be some great information in the whole thing that’s really worth soaking up. Anyway, we were satisfied with the quality of the product in hand and decided to go ahead and go with Interlock. The install was delayed by a week due to some shipping issues, but that was really the beginning and end of the troubles. The Interlock folks let me know what was going on and when they’d have it sorted. All fine by me. It’s a lifetime roof, I’m not too upset if it takes an extra week to put it on. As I understand it, mine was a bit of a one-off problem anyway. The roofers were professional, quick, and thorough. Great people who worked quickly, cleanly, and the cleanup at the end of the day was nigh on amazing. Apparently the shipping issues on my initial order led to the final install of a very few pieces being delayed a few days, but before I knew it they were back out and finishing the job. Along they way they kept me updated on anything I needed to know. The finished product is the real question, I guess. And man, let me tell you. We’re more than happy with how it looks on the house. It’s especially crazy knowing that something that looks that good is going to last. You see standing-seam metal roofs all over and even with these you sort of wonder how “metal” the Interlock system is going to look. It looks great. Seriously, even right in the driveway it’s hard to tell it’s not either a slate or colored shingle roof. It’s really beautiful and it’s going to be there without the need for constant maintenance for a long, long time. That really makes the cost worth it. If you’re thinking about a metal roof, give Interlock a serious thought. The sticker price might make you jump a little in some areas than others, but now that it’s on the house I am happy we decided to go that way. It’s beautiful, it’s going to last a good long time, and there’s a certain confidence I get from knowing I’ll be dealing with the people who make it if there’s a problem.
I absolutely love my new roof. Damon my sales rep was fantastic and the installers were the height of professionalism3/8/2021So after the snow and ice storm last month my metal roof still looks great and for the first time in 22 years I didn't have to worry about losing shingles in the storm. Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Garden Home-Whitford
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Garden Home-Whitford, Oregon. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Garden Home-Whitford.
Does metal roofing handle heavy rain better than asphalt shingles in Oregon?
Metal roofing sheds water faster and more completely than asphalt, because the panels are solid aluminum with no granule loss or absorption. Garden Home-Whitford receives about 1208 mm of rain annually, often in sustained downpours typical of the Pacific Northwest. The four-way interlocking panels create a sealed system when installed to spec, directing water off the roof and away from the structure. Unlike asphalt shingles, which can retain moisture and develop leaks at seams after 15–20 years, aluminum's inherent non-corrosive nature means the fastening and flashing remain water-tight throughout the roof's life. ESR-1790 certification confirms the system meets IRC/IBC water-intrusion standards.
Can a metal roof handle the wind gusts we get in Washington County?
Yes—Interlock roofing is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed per specification, well above the typical gusts that reach 120 km/h in this region. The four-way interlocking panel design locks each sheet to its neighbors on all four sides, distributing lateral force across the entire roof rather than concentrating stress on individual fasteners. This mechanical bond is why the system performs at UL wind-resistance standards without requiring adhesive or extra fastening hardware. For Garden Home-Whitford's exposure to Pacific Northwest wind patterns, this design provides durable protection that asphalt shingles—which can lift, tear, or lose tabs in high gusts—simply cannot match.
Will a metal roof lower my homeowners insurance costs in Oregon?
Aluminum panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, the highest available, and the Guardian Warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches, so minor denting or impact damage is not a claim concern. More importantly, some Oregon homeowners have found that metal roofing's impact resistance qualifies them for insurance premium reductions or discounts on comprehensive coverage. After a hail event, asphalt shingles require inspection and often replacement; metal roofing typically requires only visual assessment. Contact your insurance provider with your roof's UL 2218 Class 4 certification to explore whether switching to metal may lower your annual premium.
Can reflective metal roofing reduce cooling costs in Oregon's climate?
Interlock's energy-efficient colors reflect heat rather than absorbing it; the Aged Copper Penny finish achieves initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning it actively cools the roof surface. While Garden Home-Whitford's mean temperature is only 11.2°C annually, with about 3033 sunshine hours spread across the year, even moderate solar gain on a dark asphalt roof raises attic temperature in spring and fall. Cooler attic air reduces HVAC cycling during shoulder seasons and extends system life. The Cool Roof Rating Council certification quantifies this advantage; over a 50-year roof life, the cumulative energy savings offset a meaningful portion of material cost, particularly on south or west-facing slopes.
Why doesn't aluminum roofing rust like steel, and does that matter in Oregon?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron; instead, its surface forms a self-healing aluminum-oxide layer (Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon) that naturally seals micro-scratches and prevents corrosion. In Oregon's wet climate, with ~1208 mm annual rainfall and freeze-thaw cycles occurring about 37 days per year, this distinction is critical. Steel roofing requires continuous paint maintenance and eventually fails at fasteners and seams where the coating breaks. Interlock aluminum is manufactured from roofing-grade 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 alloy (ASTM B209) and coated on both sides, so even cut edges and fastener holes remain protected. Over a 50-year lifespan, the absence of rust means no hidden structural damage and no surprise repairs—a genuine advantage in the Pacific Northwest's corroding climate.
Is aluminum roofing light enough to install over my existing roof without reinforcement?
Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile installs at only 0.59 lb/sq ft, approximately 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile, so most homes need no structural reinforcement. Even the heavier Shake profile weighs just 0.58 lb/sq ft. In contrast, slate or concrete tile can require roof truss upgrades costing $5,000–$15,000. Because Interlock aluminum is so light, it typically installs directly over your existing asphalt shingles and deck, eliminating tear-off labor and landfill hauling. This also means minimal disruption to your home during installation. A structural engineer can confirm your roof's capacity in minutes, but the vast majority of homes in the Portland metro area can accept metal roofing without any reinforcement expense.
What does a lifetime metal roof warranty actually cover, and for how long?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited material warranty for the original owner—non-prorated—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance for as long as you own the home. It is also one-time transferable, providing the next owner 50 years of coverage from the completion date. This structure ensures you will never face a surprise failure due to material defect, and significantly raises your home's appeal to future buyers. By comparison, asphalt shingles typically carry 20–25 year warranties (often prorated), and wood shake requires regular maintenance and replacement within 30–40 years. A metal roof is genuinely the last roof most homeowners will install; the warranty's transferability means the next owner receives decades of protection, a major resale advantage in Washington County.
Can metal roofing look like slate, cedar shake, or tile instead of standing seam?
Yes. Interlock offers five profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile. Each replicates the texture, shadow lines, and visual weight of the traditional material through precision embossing and shadow-line tooling, so from the street the roof reads as genuine slate, shake, or hand-laid tile. Homeowners choose Slate or Cedar Shingle for a refined, architectural look; Shake for a rustic cabin aesthetic; Mediterranean Tile for a warm, stucco-home style; or Standing Seam for a sleek, modern profile. All profiles share the same aluminum core, four-way interlocking system, and 50-year transfer warranty. Your choice is purely aesthetic; the structural and performance advantages—light weight, wind resistance to 120 mph, Class 4 hail rating, and non-corrosion—remain identical across all five designs.
How much maintenance does a metal roof really need compared to asphalt or wood?
Metal roofing requires minimal maintenance—typically only annual gutter cleaning and occasional removal of debris. Unlike asphalt shingles, which lose protective granules, curl, and develop leaks within 15–25 years, aluminum does not degrade, split, or rot. Wood shake demands re-sealing every 3–5 years and frequent moss/algae treatment in wet climates like Oregon's (1208 mm annual rainfall). Interlock's CALGreen-verified design confirms reduced maintenance burden over the roof's life. The Alunar 70% PVDF finish is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (measured per ASTM standards), so even in Oregon's 3033 annual sunshine hours, color and finish stability are guaranteed. Most owners simply rinse the roof during fall gutter cleaning—a far lower commitment than the constant upkeep asphalt and wood demand.
Is aluminum roofing more environmentally responsible than asphalt shingles?
Yes. Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable; at end-of-life, the panels are melted and reused indefinitely without loss of properties. In contrast, asphalt shingles—the standard in most American homes—are torn off every 15–25 years and sent to landfills, where they persist for decades. Across Oregon's 1208 mm annual rainfall and its freeze-thaw exposure (~37 days per year), asphalt roofs fail faster, generating more landfill waste over time. Choosing a 50-year metal roof eliminates 2–3 asphalt tear-off cycles and their associated disposal impact. Interlock has been manufactured in Delta, BC since 1998, reducing supply-chain distance for Pacific Northwest installations. The combination of longevity and full recyclability makes aluminum roofing a genuinely lower-impact choice than the asphalt tear-off-and-replace cycle.
