Review: February 26, 2019Completion: January 19, 2019

Communication. I was told a crew would come the 2nd week of Jan. & there was no return of my phone calls or an email when they didn't show up then. All of a sudden one day a crew showed up unannounced & were going to Aberdeen to pick up the materials & come back to start the job-- I think this was a couple of weeks later. I cleaned up all the garbage left as the crew had no room to take it with them--they were great guys & very nice & efficient, but I took care of disposal of any bits & pieces of metal as well as a lot of paper stuff that I burnt. We have hired Interlock for numerous "roofs" on our farm over the years & even though the product is very expensive, it is a quality product. Most all of our farm buildings as well as both homes on our farm have Interlock roofs & anyone that visits & asks about the matching roofs, we explain Interlock products to them. Our repeated use of Interlock is quite a picture testimony of various shapes & sizes of Interlock roofing projects from an old 1880's Victorian Farmhouse to our small water pump house!!!

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in East Raymond

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in East Raymond, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in East Raymond.

How does a metal roof handle heavy snow and ice in East Raymond winters?

Metal roofs shed snow and ice effectively because their smooth, hard surface prevents the accumulation that traps moisture and triggers ice dams. East Raymond receives about 49 cm of snow annually and experiences roughly 34 freeze-thaw cycles per year—conditions that crack and curl traditional asphalt shingles. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind gusts up to 120 mph, meaning snow sliding off in wet conditions won't compromise the structure. The panels' light weight (the Slate profile installs at 0.41 lb/sq ft) and rigidity mean they won't sag under snow load, and any accumulated ice melts faster on aluminum than on materials that absorb heat. Snow guards can be added if desired to control slide patterns on steeper pitches.

Will a metal roof leak in the heavy rainfall East Raymond gets?

No—when installed correctly, metal roofs are among the most watertight roof systems available. East Raymond receives about 1,578 mm of rain annually, and the Interlock system's four-way interlocking design creates a sealed, shingled surface where water is mechanically directed downward and outward at every panel overlap. Installation to spec under ESR-1790 (the current ICC evaluation standard) ensures that panel seams, fastener penetrations, and flashing details all shed water before it enters the structure. A solid deck and quality underlayment (installed at time of replacement) prevent noise and add a secondary water barrier. Unlike asphalt shingles, which degrade and crack over decades of Pacific Northwest rainfall, aluminum's oxide layer does not break down, ensuring the same leak protection in year 5 as in year 30.

Why doesn't aluminum rust like steel roofing?

Aluminum cannot rust because rust requires iron, and Interlock roofing panels are made from roofing-grade 3105-H24 or 3003-H24 aluminum alloy—iron-free materials by design. When aluminum is exposed to air, it naturally forms a transparent oxide layer that heals itself when scratched, unlike steel roofing, which exposes bare metal to oxidation. The Alunar® 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating, applied to both sides of every panel and warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, adds extra protection in regions with salt spray or corrosive air. East Raymond's 1,578 mm annual rainfall and 103 km/h wind gusts create damp, windy conditions that accelerate rust on steel; aluminum's fundamental chemistry means that corrosion simply isn't a failure mode, making it ideal for your climate.

How does an Interlock metal roof perform in East Raymond's typical and extreme winds?

Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are designed and warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification. East Raymond's typical daily-maximum winds are about 15 km/h, with recorded gusts reaching 103 km/h—well within the roof's capability. The mechanical interlock between adjacent panels (imagine shingles that lock to their neighbors on all four sides) means wind pressure cannot lift or separate individual panels, and there are no fasteners exposed to wind force. The system has earned UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating and is verified under ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790, confirming compliance with modern wind codes. Even in Pacific Northwest storms, the interlocking geometry distributes uplift loads across the entire roof plane rather than concentrating stress at fastener points, as happens with traditional shingles.

Do I need to reinforce my home's structure for a metal roof?

No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's aluminum panels are extraordinarily light—the Slate profile installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft, the Shake at 0.58 lb/sq ft, and the Mediterranean Tile profile at 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. This means the roof weighs less than many asphalt shingle systems and exerts minimal load on rafters, trusses, and foundation. Because the panels are so light, you can install Interlock over most existing roofs without tearing off layers, saving time and disposal costs. The aluminum's structural rigidity—its resistance to deflection under load—means it won't sag even under East Raymond's 49 cm of annual snow, and there's no need for costly frame upgrades that often accompany heavier roofing materials.

Is a metal roof in East Raymond covered for hail damage, and can it lower insurance costs?

Interlock metal roofing carries UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and The Guardian warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This non-combustible, impact-resistant design makes metal roofing attractive to insurers. Many homeowners see premium reductions when they switch from asphalt to metal, though discounts vary by insurer and policy. Metal's durability also means fewer claims over the roof's lifetime; while East Raymond experiences typical Pacific Northwest weather rather than hail-prone storm systems, the Class 4 rating provides certainty that your roof will withstand impacts that would crack or puncture other materials. Check with your insurance agent on your specific policy, but the combination of impact resistance, non-combustibility, and Class A fire rating often qualifies metal roofs for favorable underwriting.

What is the fire rating of Interlock metal roofing?

Interlock metal roofing is non-combustible and available in Class A fire-rated profiles. Aluminum is inherently incombustible—it cannot burn—and carries a Class A designation under ASTM standards, meeting the highest fire safety classification. This means the roof will not spread flames, ignite from flying embers, or contribute fuel to a fire, even in extreme wildfire conditions. The non-combustible design is verified in ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 and recognized under International Building Code standards. In Pacific County's wildland-urban interface areas and communities like East Raymond where forest proximity is a concern, Class A fire rating provides both insurance eligibility and peace of mind. The combination of non-combustibility and impact resistance (UL 2218 Class 4) makes metal roofing a smart choice for long-term fire safety and code compliance.

How long does a metal roof last, and what does The Guardian warranty cover?

Interlock metal roofing is designed to last 50+ years and backed by The Guardian, a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner. Non-prorated means there's no depreciation schedule—the warranty covers the same scope in year 1 and year 30. Coverage includes rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance, addressing the failure modes that plague traditional roofing in East Raymond's wet, freeze-thaw climate (about 34 cycles per year). The warranty is transferable once, giving the next owner 50 years of coverage from completion, adding real resale value. Aluminum's self-healing oxide layer and 30-year Alunar® coating warranty against fading mean your roof maintains its appearance and function across decades of Pacific Northwest rainfall (1,578 mm annually) and UV exposure (2,757 sunshine hours per year).

What architectural styles does Interlock metal roofing come in?

Interlock offers five profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Mediterranean Tile, and Standing Seam, each replicating a classic roofing aesthetic using four-way interlocking aluminum panels. The Slate profile provides a clean, linear appearance reminiscent of natural slate; Cedar Shingle and Shake profiles echo traditional wood with three-dimensional shadow lines and wood-grain texture; Mediterranean Tile evokes historic clay tile with rounded coursing; Standing Seam delivers a contemporary, architectural look with continuous vertical ribs. All profiles are manufactured from the same roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy with Alunar® 70% PVDF coating, so durability and performance are identical regardless of style. Color options range from traditional earth tones to contemporary grays, allowing you to match your home's design intent while gaining the benefits of aluminum's light weight, non-corrosive chemistry, and 30+ year coating warranty.

How much maintenance does a metal roof require compared to asphalt or tile?

Metal roofing requires minimal maintenance—essentially no more than occasional gutter cleaning and removal of large debris. Aluminum does not split, curl, crack, or rot like asphalt or wood; it cannot rust; and it does not support algae or moss growth. Unlike asphalt shingles, which degrade under UV exposure and require replacement every 15-20 years, or clay and concrete tile, which require periodic resealing and crack repair, aluminum's Alunar® 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. In East Raymond's environment—1,578 mm annual rainfall and 34 freeze-thaw cycles per year—traditional materials suffer damage that generates maintenance costs; aluminum's oxide layer self-heals when scratched, and the coating resists degradation from salt spray and sustained moisture. The result is a roof you essentially install and then leave alone, making it both cost-effective and practical over decades.

Is a metal roof a good choice for East Raymond’s climate?

Yes. East Raymond averages about 49 cm of snow, 1578 mm of rain, roughly 34 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 103 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
