Review: February 26, 2019Completion: January 19, 2019

Communication. I was told a crew would come the 2nd week of Jan. & there was no return of my phone calls or an email when they didn't show up then. All of a sudden one day a crew showed up unannounced & were going to Aberdeen to pick up the materials & come back to start the job-- I think this was a couple of weeks later. I cleaned up all the garbage left as the crew had no room to take it with them--they were great guys & very nice & efficient, but I took care of disposal of any bits & pieces of metal as well as a lot of paper stuff that I burnt. We have hired Interlock for numerous "roofs" on our farm over the years & even though the product is very expensive, it is a quality product. Most all of our farm buildings as well as both homes on our farm have Interlock roofs & anyone that visits & asks about the matching roofs, we explain Interlock products to them. Our repeated use of Interlock is quite a picture testimony of various shapes & sizes of Interlock roofing projects from an old 1880's Victorian Farmhouse to our small water pump house!!!

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Davis

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Davis, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Davis.

Does a metal roof handle Davis's winter snow and ice buildup?

Yes—the smooth, hard surface of Interlock aluminum panels sheds snow far better than asphalt shingles, which trap moisture and ice. With Davis averaging about 49 cm of snow annually and roughly 34 freeze-thaw days per year, that cycling can crack or curl asphalt; Interlock's aluminum oxide layer doesn't degrade under freeze-thaw stress. The four-way interlocking seams are warranted to resist wind gusts up to 120 mph, so even wet, heavy snow won't shift panels. Optional snow guards can be added if you prefer to control melting.

Why should I choose aluminum over steel roofing in a rainy climate?

Steel rusts because it contains iron; aluminum does not. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy, which forms a self-healing oxide layer that protects against corrosion even when scratched. In Davis, where annual rainfall reaches 1578 mm, that constant moisture would attack steel year-round. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is applied to both sides of every panel and carries a 30-year warranty against chalking and fading, giving you two layers of protection in the Pacific Northwest's wet environment.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost for a Davis home?

Interlock metal roofing costs more upfront than asphalt shingles, but it's the last roof you'll install. An asphalt roof lasts 15–25 years; Interlock's lifetime limited warranty for the original owner, plus a one-time transferable 50-year term for the next owner, eliminates replacement cycles. Over 50+ years, you avoid multiple tear-offs, labor, disposal fees, and the disruption to your home. Current financing offers no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation, making the true life-cycle cost substantially lower than asphalt's repeated cycles.

Can my existing roof structure support a metal roof, or do I need expensive reinforcement?

Interlock aluminum panels are extraordinarily light—the Mediterranean Tile profile weighs about 0.59 lb per square foot, roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. This lightness means no structural reinforcement is needed in most cases, and you can install directly over your existing asphalt roof, avoiding costly tear-off labor and landfill fees. A local inspector can confirm your deck's condition, but the weight advantage is one reason Interlock has been installed from coastal homes to Antarctic research stations since 1998 without structural complications.

How does Interlock handle Davis's heavy rainfall and prevent leaks?

Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels form continuous seals that shed water rapidly across solid decking. In Davis, where you receive about 1578 mm of rain annually, that constant drainage is critical. The panels interlock on all four sides, so water can't pool or migrate sideways into gaps; it flows down and off. Installation over a solid deck with underlayment—standard in the Pacific Northwest—duplicates asphalt's leak-prevention approach but with metal's superior durability. The Guardian warranty covers leakage from installation defects for the original owner's lifetime.

What hail protection does Interlock offer, and could it lower my insurance?

Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, the highest available, and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. While Davis's climate data doesn't show frequent severe hail, the four-way interlocking structure and aluminum rigidity provide exceptional impact resistance compared to asphalt, which bruises and cracks easily. Some insurers offer discounts for Class 4 roofs; contact your agent with the UL 2218 rating to explore premium reductions. This protection also pays off in the occasional wind-driven debris common during Pacific Northwest storms.

Is Interlock metal roofing fire-resistant?

Yes. Aluminum is non-combustible and carries Class A fire classification availability. Interlock holds ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 (current as of 2025 for IBC/IRC codes), confirming compliance with fire safety standards. This matters whether you live in a wildland-urban interface or simply want peace of mind—the roof itself cannot ignite or spread flame, unlike asphalt shingles. If your home is in a fire zone or your insurer offers discounts for fire-rated materials, the Class A rating qualifies you. It's one less risk in Pacific County's rainy but occasionally dry season.

How much maintenance does an Interlock metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?

Interlock aluminum requires minimal maintenance—no algae treatment, no granule replacement, no split repairs. Asphalt roofs in Davis's wet climate (1578 mm rain, 2757 sunshine hours annually) often develop mold, algae, and moss. Wood shake splits from freeze-thaw cycles, especially during those 34 annual freeze-thaw days. Interlock sheds debris naturally due to its smooth, hard surface and is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. Occasional debris clearing from gutters is all you need. The Alunar finish is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, so your roof remains protective and attractive with virtually no intervention.

Is metal roofing really more environmentally responsible than asphalt?

Yes. Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable at end of life, breaking the asphalt cycle where shingles become landfill waste. Davis homeowners who choose metal avoid the environmental cost of multiple tear-offs over decades. Asphalt shingles, replaced every 15–25 years, generate tons of non-recyclable debris per household across a lifetime. Interlock's 50+ year lifespan with no replacement means no ongoing mining, manufacturing, or disposal burden. The aluminum itself has intrinsic scrap value, so a future owner might recoup material cost at end of life, creating a true circular economy rather than a landfill trajectory.

How long does it take to install an Interlock metal roof, and can you install over my existing shingles?

Installation timelines vary by roof complexity, but most residential projects in Davis complete within a few days once work begins. Yes, Interlock installs directly over existing asphalt shingles, avoiding expensive tear-off labor and disposal costs. A solid deck and proper underlayment ensure moisture management in the Pacific Northwest's 1578 mm annual rainfall. Your local installer, Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc., has served the region since 1997 and understands Davis's climate requirements. They'll inspect your deck, confirm it's suitable for over-roofing, and walk you through the timeline before work starts.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Davis’s climate?

Yes. Davis averages about 49 cm of snow, 1578 mm of rain, roughly 34 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 103 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
