Review: February 26, 2019Completion: January 19, 2019

Communication. I was told a crew would come the 2nd week of Jan. & there was no return of my phone calls or an email when they didn't show up then. All of a sudden one day a crew showed up unannounced & were going to Aberdeen to pick up the materials & come back to start the job-- I think this was a couple of weeks later. I cleaned up all the garbage left as the crew had no room to take it with them--they were great guys & very nice & efficient, but I took care of disposal of any bits & pieces of metal as well as a lot of paper stuff that I burnt. We have hired Interlock for numerous "roofs" on our farm over the years & even though the product is very expensive, it is a quality product. Most all of our farm buildings as well as both homes on our farm have Interlock roofs & anyone that visits & asks about the matching roofs, we explain Interlock products to them. Our repeated use of Interlock is quite a picture testimony of various shapes & sizes of Interlock roofing projects from an old 1880's Victorian Farmhouse to our small water pump house!!!

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Hilda

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Hilda, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Hilda.

Does metal roofing handle heavy snow and ice in Hilda winters?

Yes—aluminum's light weight and smooth interlocking panels actually shed snow better than asphalt. Hilda receives about 49 cm of snow annually plus roughly 34 freeze-thaw cycles, which create the ice-dam risk that shortens traditional roof life. Metal panels don't absorb water, so meltwater doesn't trap ice at the eaves the way it does under asphalt. You can add snow guards if desired, but the four-way interlocking design resists uplift from wind gusts reaching 103 km/h, preventing panels from lifting when snow shifts.

Will a metal roof leak with Hilda's 1,578 mm of annual rainfall?

No. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels are designed to shed water continuously, and the sealed joints prevent water penetration. Heavy rainfall itself doesn't stress metal roofs the way it stresses asphalt shingles, which degrade faster under wet conditions. What matters is installation: proper deck preparation and underlayment (installed over your existing roof in most cases) create the same watertight barrier as any modern roof. Hilda's roughly 2,757 annual sunshine hours help dry any moisture that does settle, and aluminum's oxide layer never rots or absorbs water like wood or asphalt can.

Why won't my metal roof rust with all the rain in Hilda?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and corrodes in steel roofs. Instead, aluminum develops a thin protective oxide layer that self-heals when scratched, a property that makes it ideal in wet, coastal climates. Hilda's 1,578 mm annual rainfall won't damage aluminum the way it degrades asphalt or corrodes steel. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (applied to both sides of every panel and warranted 30 years against fading) adds an extra barrier. This dual protection is why Interlock panels install from Pacific salt-air homes to Antarctic research stations without rust concerns.

Does a metal roof get damaged by hail, and will insurance notice?

Interlock metal roofing achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This level of durability often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts because metal roofs resist damage that would crack, split, or puncture asphalt or wood. Pacific County's weather includes wind gusts over 100 km/h, but the real value here is peace of mind: unlike asphalt, which can be dented or degraded by smaller impacts, aluminum's hardness means hail leaves minimal cosmetic marks and zero functional damage. Check with your insurer about premium reductions.

Is my house strong enough for a metal roof, or do I need to reinforce it?

No reinforcement needed. Interlock's aluminum panels are extraordinarily light—the Shingle profile installs at 0.41 lb/sq ft, and even the Mediterranean Tile, which replicates the heaviest aesthetic, weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. This means you can install metal roofing directly over most existing roofs without structural upgrades. Hilda experiences roughly 49 cm of snow annually and wind gusts to 103 km/h, but the total load on your home's frame is actually less with metal than with asphalt or traditional tile, because aluminum panels compress snow load more efficiently and distribute wind force through four-way interlocking.

How long does a metal roof last, and what's covered?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for you as the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's also one-time transferable, so the next owner receives 50 years of coverage from completion. That's two layers of protection across what could be 75+ years of ownership. The Alunar fluorocarbon coating itself is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (measured to ASTM D4214 standards), meaning your roof won't chalk or fade like asphalt does over Hilda's roughly 2,757 annual sunshine hours. This is genuinely the last roof most homeowners install.

Can metal roofing look like slate, cedar shake, or tile?

Yes—Interlock offers five profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile. Each replicates the traditional look using four-way interlocking aluminum panels with the same 30-year Alunar coating finish. Slate and Cedar Shingle match classic Pacific Northwest homes, while Shake and Mediterranean Tile offer heritage or contemporary styling. Standing Seam suits modern aesthetics. Since all profiles use the same non-rusting, impact-resistant aluminum (UL 2218 Class 4, ESR-1790 code-listed), your choice is purely aesthetic—performance and durability are identical across all styles in Hilda's rainy, freeze-thaw climate.

Will my metal roof stay on in high winds?

Yes. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Hilda's typical wind gusts reach about 103 km/h, well below that threshold, so you have a substantial safety margin. The interlocking design—not fasteners alone—distributes wind load across multiple panels, preventing individual panel lift-off during gusts. This matters especially during the winter freeze-thaw cycles (about 34 annually) when temperature swings and moisture can stress fasteners on traditional roofs. Metal's four-way lock system is actually stronger against wind than gravity-only fastening, and it's warranted to prove it.

What maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?

Metal roofing requires minimal maintenance compared to asphalt or wood shake. Unlike asphalt shingles, which degrade from UV exposure, moisture, and foot traffic, aluminum won't curl, split, or rot. Unlike wood, which requires regular staining and is vulnerable to mold in Hilda's 1,578 mm annual rainfall, aluminum sheds water and never absorbs it. The Alunar 70% PVDF finish (warranted 30 years) resists chalking and fading through roughly 2,757 annual sunshine hours. Most maintenance is cosmetic: occasional gutter cleaning and debris removal. No roof repairs, no protective coatings, no strip-and-replace cycles. CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance requirements, which translates to lower homeowner effort and cost over the roof's life.

Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost?

Metal roofing costs more initially than asphalt, but it's the last roof you'll buy. An asphalt roof typically lasts 15–20 years in Hilda's wet, freeze-thaw climate (34 freeze-thaw days annually and 1,578 mm rainfall accelerate asphalt degradation); you'll replace it 2–3 times over 50 years. Interlock's Guardian Warranty is lifetime non-prorated for the original owner and transferable 50 years for the next, eliminating tear-off and replacement cycles. Factor in no maintenance costs, potential insurance discounts (UL 2218 Class 4 hail rating), and energy savings from energy-efficient colors with 0.84 thermal emissivity, and the total cost per year drops below asphalt. Plus, a durable metal roof often supports home resale value. Current financing (no payments or interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation) reduces the financial barrier.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Hilda’s climate?

Yes. Hilda averages about 49 cm of snow, 1578 mm of rain, roughly 34 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 103 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
