Review: October 14, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.

Review: August 23, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Willapa

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Willapa, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Willapa.

Will a metal roof handle Willapa's snow and ice without problems?

Yes — aluminum's light weight and smooth surface actually outperform heavy asphalt in snow country. Willapa gets about 49 cm of snow yearly and 34 freeze-thaw cycles, which crack and split asphalt shingles but don't damage aluminum panels. The four-way interlocking design sheds snow and ice safely, and optional snow guards keep slides controlled. Unlike slate or concrete tile (which crack under freeze-thaw stress), aluminum flexes slightly and its oxide coating self-heals, staying watertight through dozens of freeze-thaw swings each winter.

Why doesn't aluminum rust like steel roofing does?

Aluminum fundamentally cannot rust because it contains no iron — rust is iron oxide, which aluminum doesn't form. Instead, aluminum develops a microscopically thin oxide layer that protects the metal underneath and self-heals when scratched. Interlock's roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloys (ASTM B209) are tested for salt-air durability and installed from coastal homes to Antarctica. In Willapa, where annual rainfall reaches 1578 mm, that oxide barrier stays intact year-round, and the dual-sided Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating adds 30-year fade and chalking protection.

How does metal roofing handle Willapa's heavy rain without leaking?

The interlocking seams do the work. Willapa receives roughly 1578 mm of rain annually, yet the four-way interlocking panels nest together so water can't penetrate horizontally — gravity and the slope do the rest. Because aluminum is non-porous and won't rot or swell like wood shakes, the seams stay watertight for decades. Installation over a solid deck with underlayment (often done over your existing roof, adding no weight stress) creates the same leak protection as asphalt, but without the deterioration that happens when asphalt absorbs moisture. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms compliance with IRC and IBC rain and water-resistance codes.

Is aluminum roofing so light that it installs over my old roof?

Yes — that's one of the biggest practical advantages. The Mediterranean Tile profile weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft, roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile, so no structural reinforcement is needed. Most existing roofs handle the load without modification. The Slate and Cedar Shingle profiles are even lighter at 0.41 lb/sq ft. Compare that to slate shingles, which can require major framing work. In Willapa, where gusts reach 103 km/h, the light weight means lower stress on fasteners and framing during wind events — paired with the four-way interlock and 120 mph wind warranty, you get a durable system without expensive structural work.

Can Interlock metal roofing stand up to Willapa's wind gusts?

Absolutely. Willapa averages 15 km/h daily winds with gusts to 103 km/h, and Interlock is warranted to resist winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels lock together mechanically, so wind can't peel them apart like it does asphalt shingles or brittle tile. Each panel's edges mesh with its neighbors on all four sides, distributing load across the entire roof system rather than relying on fasteners alone. That's why the ICC-ES ESR-1790 code report verifies the system for high-wind areas, and why the Guardian warranty covers wind performance for life.

What happens to a metal roof when hail hits it?

Interlock carries the UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating — the highest rating available for any roofing material. The warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches, and because aluminum is non-brittle, it won't crack or shatter like slate, tile, or asphalt. Many insurers offer discounts on homes with Class 4-rated roofs because hail claims drop dramatically. Willapa's climate sees freezing rain and freeze-thaw stress (about 34 days yearly), but not the heavy hail that plagues other regions — still, the Class 4 rating protects you and strengthens your insurance profile if you ever relocate to a hail-prone area.

How much maintenance does metal roofing really need?

Virtually none compared to asphalt, wood, or tile. Asphalt degrades and loses granules; wood cracks and splits; tile breaks. Aluminum doesn't rot, rust, or splinter. Leaves blow off (or wash off in Willapa's 1578 mm of annual rain). Gutters need the same attention they would under any roof. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating, warranted 30 years against fading and chalking, means no repainting or treatments. The CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance needs versus traditional materials. You're paying for a roof that stays quiet and watertight through 34 freeze-thaw cycles per year without the labor costs that keep asphalt or wood roofs alive.

What's the warranty on Interlock metal roofing, and how long does it actually last?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner — it covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance, and it's transferable to the next owner for 50 years from completion. In practical terms, homeowners in Willapa see 30–40+ years of service; many roofs exceed that. The aluminum doesn't degrade like asphalt (which brittles in about 20 years) or wood (which splits under freeze-thaw). Because Willapa averages 2757 sunshine hours yearly and the Alunar coating is warranted 30 years, fading isn't a concern. This is genuinely the last roof you'll install.

Can metal roofing look like slate, cedar shake, or tile?

Yes — Interlock offers five profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Mediterranean Tile, and Standing Seam, each with authentic visual depth and shadow lines. Each profile is a four-way interlocking aluminum panel, so you get the look you want and the durability underneath. Slate and Cedar Shingle are popular in Willapa's coastal PNW aesthetic; Shake and Tile suit period homes and custom builds. Standing Seam appeals to modern and industrial designs. The profiles don't fade unevenly (30-year coating warranty), don't split under 34 annual freeze-thaw cycles like real wood, and won't crack like slate or tile. Style and substance come together in one system.

Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost over asphalt shingles?

Over the roof's life, metal wins the math. Asphalt costs less upfront but needs replacement in 18–22 years; you'll buy three asphalt roofs in the time one Interlock roof lasts. Metal costs more initially but carries a lifetime warranty (50 years transferable), requires no maintenance, and doesn't leak or fail prematurely. No insurance claims, no emergency repairs, no tear-off debris to landfill. Willapa's 1578 mm rain and 49 cm snow stress asphalt hard, accelerating failure. Right now, Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. offers no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation — that improves the economics immediately. One lasting roof beats three temporary ones.
