Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Swem, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Prompt service and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend.
My wife and I wanted a long-term roof and I think we found it. The product seems very good and are installer Daniel was terrific and a trooper put a lot of hours and a lot of time and made it look real nice when it was completed. I would recommend the company if you're looking for a metal roof.
Ivan Excellent will make it right!!
We needed a roof repair when our neighbors tree dropped a large limb through our roof. Ivan came And accessed The damage, Ordered the sheets we needed. He came back and did the whole Repair himself. So happy to have it fixed along with his recommendations to have the roof cleaned. We appreciate his skills in repairing The roof.
The Interlock associate Ivan, came did an awesome service in correcting the part needed to be corrected, he left us with instructions of what we needed to check and to get in touch with, if needed 😀 Ms. May the associate answering the phone was helpful for us to get prompt service. They are dependable. We received roof service.
The work was efficient and well done. The service, the people and team were great. Beautiful roof.
I highly appreciate the professionalism, workmanship and the quality of materials used. I don't doubt that it will be our forever roof and will not need to worry about replacement during the life of our house. Ross, Tony, Roma were all great throughout the new roof installation process.
We noticed water spots on the ceiling. Ivan came, found a hole likely caused by a branch in the recent wind storm. He repaired the hole on the spot. Thank you Ivan!
Ivan replaced our exhaust vent on the roof that had some leaking issue. We were impressed with his professionalism, courtesy and fixing the problem to our utmost satisfaction. We certainly would recommend him and the company for any roofing issues being it a new roof or repairs.
We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.
Excellent contact and coordination with field representatives and installers/project manager.
We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Swem
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Swem, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Swem.
How does metal roofing handle the snow and ice we get in Swem?
Metal roofing sheds snow and ice more effectively than asphalt because its smooth, hard surface prevents the moisture absorption that causes ice dams. Swem averages about 49 cm of snow and 34 freeze-thaw cycles annually—exactly the conditions where ice backup and freeze damage wreck traditional roofs. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to 120 mph wind resistance, so they won't lift under the stress of accumulated snow load. Add snow guards if you want to control shedding, and you're protected for decades while asphalt roofs fail in one of those cycles.
Why won't a metal roof rust in our wet Pacific County climate?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—rust requires iron oxide to form. Instead, aluminum develops a microscopic self-healing oxide layer that protects the metal underneath; if scratched, it instantly reforms. Swem receives about 1578 mm of rain yearly in a cool, moist environment where ferrous metals corrode aggressively. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy and applies Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating to both sides—extra insurance in salt air or heavy moisture. The result: zero rust risk, no annual inspection dread, and a roof that outlasts the house.
Can metal roofing withstand Swem's wind gusts?
Yes. Swem's typical gusts reach 103 km/h, and Interlock's warranty covers wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The four-way interlocking panels lock edge-to-edge and to the deck, distributing force across the entire roof rather than concentrating it on fasteners like asphalt shingles do. This is why Interlock has been installed on Antarctic research stations and coastal salt-air homes—extreme wind and salt exposure. Your roof will stand firm through any storm Swem throws at it.
What's the hail rating on metal roofing, and does it lower insurance?
Interlock carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available. The warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurers recognize this non-combustible, impact-resistant material and offer premium discounts; ask your agent. Swem's climate doesn't include frequent hail, but the durability translates to lower damage claims overall. Combined with a 30-year coating warranty and a lifetime limited material warranty, you're presenting your insurer with a roof that simply doesn't fail. Bring the spec sheet to your next renewal—it's a conversation starter for savings.
How long will the roof last and what does the warranty actually cover?
Interlock's Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for you (the original owner), covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. When you sell, the next owner gets 50 years of coverage from installation completion—a genuine asset on the deed. Manufactured since 1998 in Delta, BC, Interlock roofs are now 25+ years in the field with zero premature failures. Given Swem's 1578 mm annual rainfall and 34 freeze-thaw days, you need a roof that won't cup, split, or rot—aluminum delivers exactly that, year after year.
Heavy rain is constant here—will a metal roof leak?
No. Metal roofs are naturally leak-resistant because water runs off the hard, non-absorbent surface; they don't absorb moisture the way asphalt or wood do. The four-way interlocking panels overlap each other like fish scales, forcing water down and out. Swem's 1578 mm of annual rain is handled best by a roof that sheds, not soaks. Paired with a solid deck and underlayment (as specified in ESR-1790 installation), you get a layered defense. Asphalt roofs absorb water into the mat, eventually rot, and fail; aluminum simply won't.
Is metal roofing light enough to install over my existing roof without reinforcement?
Yes. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so no structural reinforcement is required. The Slate and Cedar Shingle profiles are even lighter (0.41–0.43 lb/sq ft). You can install directly over most existing asphalt roofing, which saves thousands in tear-off labor and landfill fees. This matters in Swem, where labor costs are high and weather windows are narrow. Your house's framing sees less load stress, and you avoid the disruption of a full strip-down. That's efficiency and savings rolled into one.
What maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or tile?
Interlock metal roofing requires virtually no maintenance. Asphalt shingles demand annual inspections, gutter cleaning after every rain (Swem gets 1578 mm yearly), and repairs from UV damage, curling, and wind lift. Wood shakes split and rot in 34 freeze-thaw cycles like Swem experiences annually. Concrete and clay tile crack, absorb moisture, and leak. Aluminum neither absorbs water, nor splits, curls, or breaks down from UV or freeze-thaw. Rinse it with a hose every few years if you want it cosmetically clean. The 30-year coating warranty and lifetime material warranty mean you're buying the last maintenance-free roof you'll ever install.
What roof styles can I choose with metal, and do they really look like the real thing?
Interlock offers five profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Mediterranean Tile, and Standing Seam. Each replicates traditional materials with authentic texture and shadow lines visible from street level. Choose the aesthetic that suits your home and neighborhood—then enjoy decades without the rot, split, or maintenance those materials demand. Cedar Shake in Swem's damp climate would split within 10 years; Interlock's Shake profile gives you the look forever. Mediterranean Tile adds elegance without the weight or the freeze-thaw cracking. Standing Seam suits modern homes. Your curb appeal never fades—the 30-year Alunar coating warranty ensures color stays true.
Is a metal roof worth the higher upfront cost?
Metal roofing costs more upfront but becomes the cheapest roof you'll ever own over its life. Asphalt lasts 15–20 years and must be torn off (landfill cost, labor cost, roof-off disruption), then replaced—three or four times in your lifetime. Interlock's lifetime limited warranty and 50-year transferable coverage mean you install it once and never replace it. Factor in zero maintenance in Swem's harsh 1578 mm rainfall and 34 freeze-thaw climate, no insurance claims from splits or rot, and the resale value boost from a 50-year roof, and the math is clear: spend more once, spend zero over time. The current promotion—no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation—makes the entry price easier. This is the last roof you buy.
