Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Firdale, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Prompt service and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend.
My wife and I wanted a long-term roof and I think we found it. The product seems very good and are installer Daniel was terrific and a trooper put a lot of hours and a lot of time and made it look real nice when it was completed. I would recommend the company if you're looking for a metal roof.
Ivan Excellent will make it right!!
We needed a roof repair when our neighbors tree dropped a large limb through our roof. Ivan came And accessed The damage, Ordered the sheets we needed. He came back and did the whole Repair himself. So happy to have it fixed along with his recommendations to have the roof cleaned. We appreciate his skills in repairing The roof.
The Interlock associate Ivan, came did an awesome service in correcting the part needed to be corrected, he left us with instructions of what we needed to check and to get in touch with, if needed 😀 Ms. May the associate answering the phone was helpful for us to get prompt service. They are dependable. We received roof service.
The work was efficient and well done. The service, the people and team were great. Beautiful roof.
I highly appreciate the professionalism, workmanship and the quality of materials used. I don't doubt that it will be our forever roof and will not need to worry about replacement during the life of our house. Ross, Tony, Roma were all great throughout the new roof installation process.
We noticed water spots on the ceiling. Ivan came, found a hole likely caused by a branch in the recent wind storm. He repaired the hole on the spot. Thank you Ivan!
Ivan replaced our exhaust vent on the roof that had some leaking issue. We were impressed with his professionalism, courtesy and fixing the problem to our utmost satisfaction. We certainly would recommend him and the company for any roofing issues being it a new roof or repairs.
We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.
Excellent contact and coordination with field representatives and installers/project manager.
We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Firdale
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Firdale, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Firdale.
Does metal roofing handle Pacific County snow and ice better than asphalt?
Yes — aluminum's smooth, hard surface sheds snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt's porous surface, which absorbs moisture and traps freeze-thaw cycles. Firdale's average 49 cm of snow and roughly 34 freeze-thaw days per year accelerate asphalt deterioration, while aluminum panels remain inert. The four-way interlocking seams prevent water infiltration during the thaw, and optional snow guards (if preferred) integrate seamlessly into any profile. Aluminum's lack of expansion and contraction from temperature swings means no ice dams forming from thermal cycling.
With 1,578 mm of annual rain, will a metal roof stay leak-free?
Firdale's intense rainfall demands a roof engineered to shed water completely, not absorb it — metal does both. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels overlap like scales, forcing water downward and outward without pooling. The solid deck and underlayment used during installation absorb impact noise, but more importantly, they create a continuous barrier. Unlike asphalt, which develops micro-cracks after absorbing 1,500+ mm of rain annually, aluminum's non-porous surface and self-healing oxide layer remain impermeable. Proper installation to ESR-1790 specifications ensures zero water intrusion.
Why does aluminum roofing never rust, and why does that matter in Washington?
Steel roofing can rust; aluminum cannot — that's the fundamental difference. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209), which contains zero iron. Without iron, rust is impossible. The natural oxide layer that forms on aluminum actually protects it; when scratched, this layer self-heals automatically. Both sides of every panel receive Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. In wet, coastal-influenced climates like Firdale's, this dual-sided coating is decisive — it shields against salt-air corrosion that would attack steel or degrade uncoated aluminum.
Does metal roofing reduce insurance premiums in hail-prone areas, and how tough is it?
Insurance discounts depend on your carrier, but Interlock's UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating — the highest available — qualifies many policies for reduction. The rating means the roof withstands hailstones up to 1.5 inches; The Guardian warranty even covers perforation from hail at that size. Pacific County's gusts reach 103 km/h, occasionally producing large hail; a Class 4-rated metal roof outperforms asphalt and wood shakes, which deteriorate quickly under impact. Contact your insurer with the UL 2218 classification — many will acknowledge the lower risk profile and adjust your rate accordingly.
Are interlocking metal panels strong enough for Firdale's wind gusts?
Yes — Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are engineered to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Firdale's typical gusts average 15 km/h with peaks near 103 km/h, well below that threshold. The interlocking geometry distributes lateral force across panels, preventing uplift at seams. This is critical in Pacific County's maritime climate, where sudden gusts stress asphalt shingles and cause cupping or nail-pops. Metal's inherent rigidity means no seasonal movement, no fastener creep, no wind-driven leaks — the warranty covers wind damage up to design speed.
Can my house support a metal roof, or do I need to reinforce the structure?
Aluminum is so light that structural reinforcement is almost never needed. Interlock's Shingle profile installs at 0.41 lb/sq ft, Shake at 0.58, and Mediterranean Tile at 0.59 — the Tile profile weighs about 96% less than clay or concrete tile. Concrete tile can weigh 12–15 lb/sq ft; Interlock Tile is roughly 0.59. Most homes built to code easily carry this load. You can install over existing asphalt or wood without removal, saving disposal costs and installation time. A structural engineer can confirm your home's capacity if you have concerns, but lightness is one of aluminum's decisive advantages in retrofit installations.
How long does metal roofing actually last, and what's The Guardian warranty?
Interlock metal roofs are designed for 40–60 years; many exceed that. The Guardian provides a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty to the original owner — covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's transferable once, giving the next owner 50 years from completion. The 30-year coating warranty (Alunar PVDF) independently guarantees no chalking or fading. In Firdale's 1,578 mm annual rainfall and 34 freeze-thaw cycles, asphalt typically lasts 15–20 years; a single Interlock installation effectively becomes your last roof, making lifetime coverage financially significant over your home's life.
Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt?
Over the roof's life, metal roofing is cheaper — you buy it once, not three times. Asphalt lasts 15–20 years in climates like Firdale's (1,578 mm rain, 34 freeze-thaw days annually); you'll reroof twice or thrice. Labor, permit, and debris removal multiply costs each cycle. Metal costs more initially but requires zero maintenance, carries transferable warranty coverage (50 years to the next owner), and avoids the landfill cycle. Current regional promotion: no interest and no payments until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation. Factor in energy savings (energy-efficiency colors reflect heat asphalt absorbs), potential insurance discounts (UL 2218 Class 4), and resale appeal — the total cost of ownership favors metal decisively.
How long does installation take, and can you roof over my existing shingles?
Most residential installations complete in 2–5 days, depending on roof size and complexity. Yes, Interlock installs directly over existing asphalt or wood shingles — no tearoff required. The lightweight aluminum (Shingle profile at 0.41 lb/sq ft) avoids structural stress, and existing decking provides the solid substrate ESR-1790 requires. Removal is optional and saves cost. Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc., serving this region since 1997, handles permitting and coordinates with local Pacific County standards. The solid deck plus underlayment eliminate the hollow-sounding rain noise people expect from metal — you hear rainfall the same as with asphalt. Current promotion includes no payments and no interest until Spring 2027.
How much maintenance does metal roofing need compared to asphalt or wood?
Virtually none — that's the advantage. Asphalt requires regular inspection, fungicide treatment (Firdale's 2,757 annual sunshine hours and 1,578 mm rain promote moss), and shingle replacement after 15–20 years. Wood shakes need sealing every 3–5 years and individual board replacement. Interlock aluminum requires no sealing, no treatment, and no protective maintenance. Rain cleans the Alunar 70% PVDF finish (warranted 30 years against chalking or fading); you inspect gutters and ensure debris doesn't trap moisture, but the roof itself is passive. CALGreen verified this low-maintenance profile. Over a 50-year lifespan, eliminating maintenance labor and material costs becomes substantial — one of metal's clearest financial advantages.
