Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Old Willapa, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Prompt service and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend.
My wife and I wanted a long-term roof and I think we found it. The product seems very good and are installer Daniel was terrific and a trooper put a lot of hours and a lot of time and made it look real nice when it was completed. I would recommend the company if you're looking for a metal roof.
Ivan Excellent will make it right!!
We needed a roof repair when our neighbors tree dropped a large limb through our roof. Ivan came And accessed The damage, Ordered the sheets we needed. He came back and did the whole Repair himself. So happy to have it fixed along with his recommendations to have the roof cleaned. We appreciate his skills in repairing The roof.
The Interlock associate Ivan, came did an awesome service in correcting the part needed to be corrected, he left us with instructions of what we needed to check and to get in touch with, if needed 😀 Ms. May the associate answering the phone was helpful for us to get prompt service. They are dependable. We received roof service.
The work was efficient and well done. The service, the people and team were great. Beautiful roof.
I highly appreciate the professionalism, workmanship and the quality of materials used. I don't doubt that it will be our forever roof and will not need to worry about replacement during the life of our house. Ross, Tony, Roma were all great throughout the new roof installation process.
We noticed water spots on the ceiling. Ivan came, found a hole likely caused by a branch in the recent wind storm. He repaired the hole on the spot. Thank you Ivan!
Ivan replaced our exhaust vent on the roof that had some leaking issue. We were impressed with his professionalism, courtesy and fixing the problem to our utmost satisfaction. We certainly would recommend him and the company for any roofing issues being it a new roof or repairs.
We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.
Excellent contact and coordination with field representatives and installers/project manager.
We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Old Willapa
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Old Willapa, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Old Willapa.
Will a metal roof handle Old Willapa's snow and ice buildup?
Yes, Interlock metal roofing handles snow loads without risk of collapse or ice damming. Old Willapa receives about 49 cm of snow annually across 34 freeze-thaw days, creating the exact conditions where ice dams form under asphalt. Metal's smooth surface sheds snow and ice faster than shingles, reducing dam formation. The four-way interlocking panels lock together mechanically, so expansion and contraction from those freeze-thaw cycles won't separate seams. Snow guards are optional if you want to retain snow for insulation value—Interlock installs them easily because the roof is so lightweight (~0.41 lb/sq ft for Shingle profile) that no structural reinforcement is needed, even over existing roofs.
Can metal roofing handle Old Willapa's 1,578 mm of annual rain without leaks?
Metal roofing is engineered specifically for high-rainfall climates like Old Willapa, where 1,578 mm of rain falls yearly. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels create overlapped seams that shed water continuously downward; no flat surfaces trap moisture. Proper installation (underlayment, solid deck, correct fastening per ICC-ES ESR-1790) ensures water drains completely—the same principle used on commercial buildings rated for even heavier precipitation. Because aluminum panels are so light (~0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft depending on profile), they install directly over existing asphalt or wood, adding multiple leak-protection layers without weight concerns. In contrast, asphalt shingles degrade under constant wet conditions and fail after 15–20 years in Pacific County climates.
Will my metal roof rust in Old Willapa's wet climate?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and creates rust. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209), plus a Alunar® 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating on both panel sides (warranted 30 years against chalking and fading). When aluminum is scratched, its oxide layer self-heals automatically, re-forming a protective barrier. This matters in Old Willapa, where 2,757 annual sunshine hours and 103 km/h wind gusts drive salt air inland and create conditions that corrode steel. Steel roofing requires constant maintenance; aluminum requires almost none. Interlock's Guardian Warranty covers rusting for the lifetime of the original owner, then transfers 50 years to the next owner—proof that corrosion simply isn't a concern with aluminum in coastal-influenced climates.
How much wind can a metal roof withstand in Old Willapa?
Interlock metal roofing is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Old Willapa's typical daily gusts reach about 15 km/h, with extreme gusts around 103 km/h—well within the roof's rated capacity. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels lock together mechanically, so wind cannot lift or separate them the way it can lift asphalt shingles, which rely only on adhesive and fasteners. This mechanical lock system is tested and verified in ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790, which is reissued annually to maintain IBC/IRC compliance. High-wind events are rare enough in Pacific County that most homeowners never stress their roof's capacity, but when severe windstorms do arrive, you'll have complete peace of mind knowing your roof exceeds regional conditions by a large margin.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?
Metal roofing costs more upfront but becomes the last roof you install, making the lifetime cost far lower than asphalt. An asphalt roof lasts 15–20 years in Old Willapa's wet 1,578 mm annual rainfall environment; you'll replace it 2–3 times over 50 years. Interlock's Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner, then transfers to the next owner for 50 years—meaning one metal roof outlasts multiple asphalt replacements. The aluminum is ~95% recyclable, eliminating the landfill cost of tearing off asphalt shingles. Current regional promotion offers no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation. When you sum material cost, labor for multiple re-roofs, landfill fees, and lost home value during roof failures, metal roofing saves money over the decades and protects your investment through 34 annual freeze-thaw cycles.
How long does it take to install a metal roof, and can it go over my existing shingles?
Metal roofing installs quickly because the panels are extraordinarily lightweight—Interlock Shingle profile weighs just 0.41 lb/sq ft, compared to 0.59 lb/sq ft for the Tile profile (which is about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile). This light weight means installation can proceed directly over your existing asphalt or wood roof without any structural reinforcement, even in Pacific County's climate with 49 cm annual snowfall. A typical residential roof takes 2–5 days to complete, depending on complexity and weather windows—Old Willapa's 2,757 annual sunshine hours provide ample opportunity for scheduling. Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served the region since 1997, so local installers understand the exact ICC-ES ESR-1790 compliance steps needed for your climate. Removing old roofing, tearing out material, and disposing of asphalt shingles in landfills is eliminated, saving time and disposal costs.
How much maintenance does a metal roof need in a wet climate like Old Willapa?
Metal roofing requires almost no maintenance—one of its biggest long-term advantages in a 1,578 mm annual rainfall climate. Asphalt shingles need regular inspections, moss removal, gutter cleaning, and fastener replacement; wood roofs need treatment against rot and insects. Interlock aluminum panels shed water continuously, so moss and algae don't accumulate like they do on asphalt in Old Willapa's damp conditions. The Alunar® 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance and warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214 / D2244). Aluminum cannot rot, split, curl, or lose fastener hold due to freeze-thaw cycles across the 34 annual freeze-thaw days. Your main job is keeping gutters clear—the same task any roof requires. Guardian Warranty covers cracking and splitting, so you're protected even from the thermal stress of Old Willapa's temperature swings.
What hail protection does a metal roof offer, and can I get insurance discounts?
Interlock metal roofing carries the highest hail rating available: UL 2218 Class 4 impact resistance, tested against 2-inch steel balls dropped from 20 feet. Guardian Warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches—a protection level asphalt, wood, and standard tile roofing cannot match. While Old Willapa's climate data shows no extreme hail frequency, high-impact rating translates to peace of mind and potential insurance discounts from carriers who recognize UL 2218 Class 4 certification as a mark of durability. Many insurers offer 5–10% premium reductions for Class 4 roofing because repair claims are rare. The aluminum construction is non-combustible (Class A fire rating available), which may unlock additional premium reductions. Contact your insurance agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 spec sheet; they can confirm your exact discount. Combined with the 120 mph wind warranty, you'll have fewer roof-related claims overall.
What warranty comes with Interlock metal roofing, and how long will it actually last?
Interlock's Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It then transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion, giving total coverage of 70+ years from installation. In a climate with 34 annual freeze-thaw days like Old Willapa, this warranty matters because thermal expansion and contraction cause most roof failures; aluminum panels flex without cracking. Roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) lasts 50+ years as proven by installations ranging from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station. The Alunar® 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years separately against chalking (ASTM D4214). No asphalt or wood roof offers lifetime coverage; most offer 10–25 years. This warranty reflects the material's real longevity and protects your investment through decades of Pacific County weather.
Can metal roofing look like slate, cedar shake, or tile on my Old Willapa home?
Yes, Interlock offers five profiles that replicate traditional materials: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Mediterranean Tile, and Standing Seam. Each profile uses the same roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy with four-way interlocking, so you get authentic visual character without the weight, maintenance, or durability problems of real stone, wood, or clay. Real slate and tile require structural reinforcement (no weight savings); Interlock's Tile profile weighs about 96% less than concrete or clay tile, meaning it installs over existing roofs in Old Willapa without reinforcement—critical when managing 49 cm annual snowfall. Cedar Shake and Shingle profiles attract homeowners seeking traditional aesthetics while gaining a 120 mph wind warranty, UL 2218 Class 4 hail rating, and 30-year coating durability (ASTM D4214 / D2244). Locally, Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has installed all profiles since 1997, so your chosen style integrates seamlessly with Pacific County's architectural character while delivering modern performance.
