Review: February 26, 2019Completion: January 19, 2019

Communication. I was told a crew would come the 2nd week of Jan. & there was no return of my phone calls or an email when they didn't show up then. All of a sudden one day a crew showed up unannounced & were going to Aberdeen to pick up the materials & come back to start the job-- I think this was a couple of weeks later. I cleaned up all the garbage left as the crew had no room to take it with them--they were great guys & very nice & efficient, but I took care of disposal of any bits & pieces of metal as well as a lot of paper stuff that I burnt. We have hired Interlock for numerous "roofs" on our farm over the years & even though the product is very expensive, it is a quality product. Most all of our farm buildings as well as both homes on our farm have Interlock roofs & anyone that visits & asks about the matching roofs, we explain Interlock products to them. Our repeated use of Interlock is quite a picture testimony of various shapes & sizes of Interlock roofing projects from an old 1880's Victorian Farmhouse to our small water pump house!!!

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Burt

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Burt, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Burt.

How does a metal roof handle Burt's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?

Aluminum's smooth, hard surface sheds snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt, which traps moisture and accelerates deterioration. Burt averages about 49 cm of snow annually and 34 freeze-thaw days per year — conditions that crack and curl asphalt shingles over time. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind gusts up to 120 mph, and the panels' light weight (the Slate profile installs at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural stress from snow load. Snow guards are available if you prefer controlled shedding, but the slope itself typically handles the work.

Does Burt's 1,578 mm annual rainfall cause leaks in metal roofing?

No — metal roofing's sealed interlocking design and solid deck underlayment are engineered specifically for high-rainfall climates. The four-way interlocking seams direct water down and outward; the system is tested to IBC/IRC standards (ICC-ES ESR-1790, reissued 2025) for water tightness. Burt's 1,578 mm of rain yearly is precisely why aluminum panels bonded over solid decking outperform materials that absorb moisture. The Guardian Warranty covers leak protection for life under normal installation — a single, comprehensive shield rather than asphalt's gradual failure under sustained wet.

Why won't an aluminum roof rust in Burt's wet climate?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron — the element that oxidizes and deteriorates. Instead, aluminum naturally forms a self-healing oxide layer that protects the metal underneath; if scratched, it automatically repairs itself. Burt's damp Pacific County climate and occasional wind gusts reaching 103 km/h create conditions where steel roofing corrodes, but aluminum thrives. Interlock panels use roofing-grade 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy with a Alunar® 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating applied to both sides, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading — extra protection in salt air and wet environments.

Does a metal roof that looks like tile or slate need expensive structural upgrades?

No — Interlock's aluminum panels are extraordinarily light, making reinforcement unnecessary on nearly all homes. The Mediterranean Tile profile, which replicates the weight and appearance of traditional clay or concrete tile, installs at only 0.59 lb/sq ft — roughly 96% lighter than the real material. This allows installation over most existing roofs without reinforcement costs. Compare this to clay tile (15+ lb/sq ft), and the structural and financial difference becomes clear. Most Burt homes built to standard load codes accommodate Interlock panels without modification, saving thousands in prep work.

Can a metal roof withstand Burt's storm gusts?

Yes — Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification. Burt's typical daily-maximum winds reach about 15 km/h, with gusts recorded to 103 km/h, but the design margin is substantial. The panels interlock on all four sides, creating a unified system that prevents uplift and separation during extreme weather. This engineering — combined with proper fastening over solid deck — explains why Interlock installations perform through Pacific Northwest storm seasons year after year. The warranty backs this performance, giving you long-term protection without worrying about wind-driven damage.

Does metal roofing hold up in hail, and can it lower insurance costs?

Interlock metal roofing achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating — the highest available — and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This durability often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts, since the roof resists the damage that typically triggers claims. Burt's 2,757 annual sunshine hours mean hail is less frequent than in alpine regions, but when severe weather does strike, aluminum's hardness and non-combustibility outperform asphalt. Checking with your insurer about available credits can offset installation cost, especially over the product's 50-year transferable warranty term.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles over time?

Absolutely — metal roofing is the last roof you buy, making lifetime value the correct comparison. Asphalt typically lasts 15–20 years in Burt's wet, freeze-thaw climate (1,578 mm rain and 34 freeze-thaw days annually); a metal roof lasts 50+ years, often requiring no replacement in your ownership. Factor in asphalt's regular maintenance, vulnerability to hail and wind damage, and landfill replacement cycles, and the total cost of ownership favors metal. The Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner, with a one-time 50-year transfer — genuine long-term protection. Current promotions offer no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation, making the first-cost gap smaller.

Can I get a metal roof that looks like slate, cedar shake, or tile?

Yes — Interlock offers five profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile. Each replicates the visual appeal of traditional materials while delivering aluminum's durability and light weight. The Mediterranean Tile, for example, mimics clay or concrete tile in appearance but installs at 0.59 lb/sq ft — 96% lighter than the real material — and requires no structural reinforcement. Each profile uses the same roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy and Alunar® coating, so performance and warranty are identical regardless of aesthetic choice. Burt homeowners can select the look that suits their home's architecture without compromising on weather protection, hail resistance (UL 2218 Class 4), or 50-year transferability.

What exactly does Interlock's lifetime warranty cover, and how long does the roof actually last?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance — the failures that plague asphalt, wood, and concrete tile. For the original owner, it's truly lifetime; the warranty is one-time transferable, guaranteeing the next owner 50 years from completion. Interlock panels have been manufactured since 1998 (27 years of field history) and installed from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station, proving durability across climates far harsher than Burt's 1,578 mm rainfall and 49 cm snow. In practice, aluminum roofing lasts 50–70+ years with minimal maintenance — far exceeding asphalt's 15–20 year lifespan in freeze-thaw regions.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need in a rainy climate like Burt's?

Metal roofing requires dramatically less maintenance than asphalt, wood shake, or tile. There is no seasonal removal of debris, no algae or moss treatment (aluminum's smooth surface resists growth), no patching of splits or curled shingles, and no granule loss to monitor. Burt's approximately 2,757 annual sunshine hours and frequent rain actually help keep the roof naturally clean. Interlock's Alunar® 70% PVDF coating, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading to ASTM D4214 standards, maintains appearance and protection with a simple rinse from wind-driven rain. The Guardian Warranty even specifies reduced maintenance obligations — the roof earns CALGreen verification — meaning homeowners spend time and money elsewhere while the roof performs.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Burt’s climate?

Yes. Burt averages about 49 cm of snow, 1578 mm of rain, roughly 34 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 103 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
