Review: February 26, 2019Completion: January 19, 2019

Communication. I was told a crew would come the 2nd week of Jan. & there was no return of my phone calls or an email when they didn't show up then. All of a sudden one day a crew showed up unannounced & were going to Aberdeen to pick up the materials & come back to start the job-- I think this was a couple of weeks later. I cleaned up all the garbage left as the crew had no room to take it with them--they were great guys & very nice & efficient, but I took care of disposal of any bits & pieces of metal as well as a lot of paper stuff that I burnt. We have hired Interlock for numerous "roofs" on our farm over the years & even though the product is very expensive, it is a quality product. Most all of our farm buildings as well as both homes on our farm have Interlock roofs & anyone that visits & asks about the matching roofs, we explain Interlock products to them. Our repeated use of Interlock is quite a picture testimony of various shapes & sizes of Interlock roofing projects from an old 1880's Victorian Farmhouse to our small water pump house!!!

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Pluvius

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Pluvius, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Pluvius.

Does a metal roof handle Pluvius winters—heavy snow, freeze-thaw cycles, and ice dams?

Aluminum metal roofing handles Pluvius's approximately 49 cm of annual snow and ~34 freeze-thaw days without the cracking, curling, or splitting that asphalt endures in that cycle. The smooth, slippery surface sheds snow naturally rather than trapping it; the four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind gusts up to 103 km/h and won't lift when snow loads shift. Aluminum's oxide layer doesn't degrade from salt spray or repeated freeze-thaw stress, and the lightweight design—about 0.41 lb/sq ft for the Shingle profile—means no structural reinforcement is needed, unlike slate or concrete tile.

With over 1,500 mm of rain per year in Pluvius, how does a metal roof stay watertight?

The four-way interlocking panel system creates overlaps on all edges—each panel locks to its neighbors on top, bottom, and both sides—so water flowing downslope hits a continuous seam-free path to the gutter. Pluvius's ~1,578 mm annual rainfall is heavy, but the aluminum surface sheds water immediately without absorption; paired with a solid deck and underlayment beneath, the result is as quiet and dry as an asphalt roof, with zero risk of the granule decay and leaks asphalt develops over time in wet climates.

Why choose aluminum over steel roofing in a wet, windy climate?

Steel roofs rust in Pluvius's coastal air and wet climate, but aluminum contains no iron and therefore cannot rust—it forms a transparent oxide layer that self-heals when scratched. Interlock panels use roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) with a two-sided Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. In a region averaging ~1,578 mm of rain, freeze-thaw cycling, and gusts to 103 km/h, that combination means the roof's structural integrity never depends on paint or coatings holding back corrosion—it simply cannot happen.

What's the hail rating on a metal roof, and can it lower my insurance in Pluvius?

Interlock metal roofing holds a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. That exceptional durability often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts; contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 specification. While Pluvius's 10-year climate data doesn't flag severe hail, the Pacific Northwest's spring and fall storms can produce damaging impacts. With that top-tier rating and a lifetime limited warranty covering impact loss, your roof and your insurer's risk are both significantly lower than with asphalt.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost over 40+ years in Pluvius?

Asphalt requires replacement every 15–20 years in wet climates; Pluvius averages ~1,578 mm of rain and 49 cm of snow annually, accelerating asphalt decay. Metal costs more initially but lasts a lifetime with zero material replacement. The Guardian warranty is non-prorated for the original owner and transferable—giving the next owner 50 years from completion—so resale appeal increases. Over 40 years, one metal roof equals 2–3 asphalt roofs plus tear-off labor and landfill fees. Current financing offers no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation, lowering that initial barrier further.

What's covered under the lifetime warranty, and does it transfer to a new owner?

The Guardian lifetime limited warranty covers the original owner for rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance—eliminating every failure mode that plagues asphalt, wood, and traditional tile in Pluvius's 1,578 mm annual rainfall and freeze-thaw cycle. The warranty is non-prorated and one-time transferable, giving the next owner 50 years of coverage from completion. That dual-owner protection is unusual in roofing and reflects the aluminum's genuine durability: no rust, no rot, no structural fatigue from the ~34 freeze-thaw days Pluvius experiences each year.

Can a metal roof handle Pluvius's wind gusts without lifting or leaking?

Interlock's four-way interlocking panel design—each panel locks on all four edges—resists wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification. Pluvius's typical peak gusts reach ~103 km/h (64 mph), well within that warranty. The system's strength comes from the mechanical interlock, not nails alone; wind pressure pushes panels together rather than apart. Combined with the lightweight profile—approximately 0.41 lb/sq ft for the Shingle—there's minimal uplift force, and the locked seams prevent wind-driven rain from entering. In a region with frequent gusts and ~2,757 annual sunshine hours, the roof stays secure and dry through every weather swing.

Do I need structural reinforcement to install a metal tile roof over my existing roof?

No. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs approximately 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so it installs directly over most existing roofs without reinforcement. Pluvius homes typically aren't engineered for the weight of slate or traditional tile, but aluminum's light load means your framing, gutters, and structure remain unchanged. This also reduces labor cost and timeline. The four profiles available—Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, Mediterranean Tile—all install at under 0.59 lb/sq ft, replicating premium looks without the structural penalty.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood shake?

Aluminum metal roofing requires almost none. Asphalt sheds granules in rain (Pluvius gets ~1,578 mm annually), loses flexibility in freeze-thaw cycles (~34 per year), and needs sealing and patching every few years. Wood shake splits, rots, and requires regular treatment—impossible in persistent dampness. Interlock aluminum never needs sealing, painting, or chemical treatment; rain rinses dust, and the two-sided Alunar 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. The CALGreen verification confirms its reduced-maintenance profile. In a wet, cool climate, that difference means real money and time saved over the roof's lifetime.

What fire rating does a metal roof have, and is it available in Pluvius?

Interlock metal roofing is non-combustible aluminum and carries Class A fire rating availability—the highest classification. Aluminum cannot burn, and the coating is inert fluorocarbon (Alunar 70% PVDF). This matters in every region but particularly in areas near forests or where wildfire risk is rising. The roof complies with ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 (reissued 2025), confirming code compliance across IBC/IRC standards. While Pluvius's primary climate risk is rain (1,578 mm annually) and wind gusts to 103 km/h rather than fire, that Class A rating adds safety value at no extra cost and may also interest your insurer.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Pluvius’s climate?

Yes. Pluvius averages about 49 cm of snow, 1578 mm of rain, roughly 34 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 103 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
