Review: October 14, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.

Review: August 23, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Menlo

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Menlo, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Menlo.

Will metal roofing handle Menlo's snow and ice buildup?

Yes—Interlock's four-way interlocking panels and smooth profiles shed snow and ice efficiently, even with Menlo's average 49 cm of annual snowfall and 34 freeze-thaw cycles. The lightweight aluminum (Shake profile at just 0.58 lb/sq ft) means no added structural stress from accumulated snow. Unlike asphalt, the metal surface doesn't absorb heat unevenly, reducing dangerous ice dam formation. Optional snow guards can be added if you want extra control over edge release in heavy wet-snow events.

Can an aluminum roof rust in Menlo's rainy climate?

Aluminum cannot rust—it contains no iron. In our maritime climate averaging 1578 mm of rain annually, this matters enormously. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) with a two-sided Alunar® 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish. Even if the coating is scratched, aluminum's oxide layer self-heals instantly. Steel roofing rusts; aluminum simply ages gracefully. Your roof will never develop rust stains or structural corrosion, no matter how wet the winters get.

How will a metal roof handle Menlo's wind gusts?

Interlock metal roofing is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification—far beyond Menlo's typical gusts averaging 103 km/h. The four-way interlocking panel system locks each piece to its neighbors, distributing wind load evenly across the roof rather than stressing individual fasteners. This engineered connection is why we can confidently cover coastal and exposed properties. Combined with proper installation technique, your roof will remain secure even during Pacific Northwest windstorms.

Will my insurance company offer discounts for a metal roof that handles hail?

Many insurers do offer discounts for impact-resistant roofing. Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest classification available—and our Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. While Menlo isn't a major hail zone, severe spring storms can occur. Contact your agent with your roof's UL 2218 Class 4 rating and ICC-ES ESR-1790 certification; some carriers reduce premiums for non-combustible, impact-rated metal systems.

How much will a metal roof cost compared to replacing asphalt three times?

Over 50+ years, a metal roof typically costs less than multiple asphalt replacements. Asphalt lasts 15–25 years; you'll replace it three or four times before an Interlock roof needs replacement—if ever. Factor in disposal costs, labor for tear-offs, and the disruption of repeated construction. Interlock's lifetime limited material warranty (transferable to the next owner for 50 years) covers rusting, rotting, cracking, and impact loss. Right now, there's no interest and no payments until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation. That's your true cost comparison.

What does Interlock's lifetime warranty actually cover?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—meaning no deductibles, no gradual coverage reduction over time. It covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. When you sell, the warranty transfers once to the new owner, who receives 50 years of coverage from completion. This structure reflects our confidence: Interlock has been manufactured since 1998 in Delta, BC, installed from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station. Few roofing products offer this level of backing.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or real tile?

Interlock metal roofing requires far less maintenance than asphalt or tile. There's no granule loss to clean gutters, no moss growth to pressure-wash, no cracked or curled shingles to replace. In Menlo's 2757 annual sunshine hours and 1578 mm of rain, asphalt degrades steadily; Interlock's Alunar® 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214). Real tile cracks in freeze-thaw cycles—we average 34 per year here. Aluminum simply doesn't. A gentle rinse every few years is all you need. It's CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance.

Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for a metal roof?

No structural reinforcement needed. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs just 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so it installs directly over most existing roofs. Even the heavier Shake profile (0.58 lb/sq ft) adds negligible load compared to slate or traditional tile. This lightweight advantage means no expensive framing upgrades, faster installation, and no disruption to your home's integrity. Interlock's ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms installation over existing asphalt or wood-shake without reinforcement.

Is a metal roof actually better for the environment than asphalt?

Yes. Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable and can be recycled infinitely without quality loss. When your roof eventually reaches end-of-life (which, given our lifetime warranty, is distant), the material returns to the aluminum cycle. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, are torn off every 15–25 years and sent to landfills by the millions of tons—a cycle Interlock eliminates. In Menlo, where we value our Pacific Northwest forests and waters, choosing a roof that doesn't feed the landfill cycle is a choice for the region's future. Our manufacturing in Delta, BC, also supports local North American production.

How long does installation take, and can you install over my existing roof?

Installation timeline typically ranges from 3–7 days depending on roof size and complexity. Interlock installs directly over existing asphalt or wood-shake roofing—no tear-off required—which saves time, labor, and disposal costs. The lightweight panels (Slate profile at 0.41 lb/sq ft) are quick to handle and position. Four-way interlocking means each panel locks securely before the next is installed, speeding the process and ensuring watertight seams. Our local installer, Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc., has served this region since 1997 and manages the timeline professionally. A free site visit clarifies your specific schedule.
