Communication. I was told a crew would come the 2nd week of Jan. & there was no return of my phone calls or an email when they didn't show up then. All of a sudden one day a crew showed up unannounced & were going to Aberdeen to pick up the materials & come back to start the job-- I think this was a couple of weeks later. I cleaned up all the garbage left as the crew had no room to take it with them--they were great guys & very nice & efficient, but I took care of disposal of any bits & pieces of metal as well as a lot of paper stuff that I burnt. We have hired Interlock for numerous "roofs" on our farm over the years & even though the product is very expensive, it is a quality product. Most all of our farm buildings as well as both homes on our farm have Interlock roofs & anyone that visits & asks about the matching roofs, we explain Interlock products to them. Our repeated use of Interlock is quite a picture testimony of various shapes & sizes of Interlock roofing projects from an old 1880's Victorian Farmhouse to our small water pump house!!!
Some scrap materials left on the deck and a few nails too. I'm glad I found the nails before my tires did. Roof has received many compliments:
Interlock Roofing could've improved upon their clean up.
He was late. Brought his child and dog. We entertained both while he tried to high pressure sell us. Not professional at all.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Dexter by the Sea
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Dexter by the Sea, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Dexter by the Sea.
How does a metal roof handle heavy snow in Dexter by the Sea?
Metal roofing sheds snow and ice more effectively than asphalt because its smooth, hard surface prevents accumulation and ice dam formation—critical in Dexter, where you receive about 52 cm of snow annually alongside 2211 mm of rain and roughly 11 freeze-thaw cycles per year. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to 120 mph wind resistance, meaning the panels themselves remain secure even as snow slides. Optional snow guards can be installed if you want to control where snow exits. The lightweight design—your Shake profile weighs just 0.58 lb/sq ft—means no structural reinforcement is needed, and the roof installs directly over most existing shingles, saving time and cost compared to slate or concrete tile.
Will a metal roof leak during Dexter's heavy rainfall seasons?
No—when properly installed over a solid deck with underlayment, metal roofing performs identically to asphalt in rain protection, and the overlapping, four-way interlocking panels actually outperform it. Dexter averages 2211 mm of annual rainfall, yet Interlock Metal Roofing has installed systems from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctic research stations without leak issues. The sealed panel joints and continuous membrane prevent water penetration. Because aluminum itself cannot rust—the metal contains no iron and its oxide layer self-heals when scratched—even nail holes and fasteners remain corrosion-free over decades, eliminating a leading cause of roof leaks in traditional materials.
Can an aluminum metal roof rust in a coastal or rainy climate?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron; instead, it forms a self-healing oxide layer that protects the metal beneath. In Dexter's wet, windy environment—with gusts reaching 122 km/h and 2211 mm of annual rainfall—this matters enormously. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum (ASTM B209) with a Alunar® 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish applied to both sides, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. That dual-coat protection is especially important in salt-air zones because the extra coating guards the underside from corrosive spray. Steel roofing, by contrast, rusts from the inside out once the protective coating is breached. Aluminum simply outlasts it.
Is a metal roof strong enough for Dexter's wind and storm gusts?
Yes—Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist 120 mph winds, well above Dexter's typical gust speeds of 122 km/h (about 76 mph). The interlocking design transfers wind load across multiple panels rather than relying on fasteners alone, creating redundant strength. During installation, panels are mechanically fastened to the deck and to each other at four points, so wind pressure pushes the panels tighter together rather than lifting them apart. The ICC-ES evaluation report (ESR-1790, reissued 2025) confirms code compliance for high-wind regions. This engineering approach means you won't experience the flutter, creaking, or fastener failure that can plague lighter metal roofs in sustained gusts like those common in your coastal Pacific County location.
Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is needed—in fact, that's one of metal roofing's greatest advantages over slate, tile, or concrete. Interlock's Shake profile weighs just 0.58 lb/sq ft, while Mediterranean Tile at 0.59 lb/sq ft is approximately 96% lighter than clay or concrete tile. Most homes can support this weight with zero modifications. Because aluminum is so light, Interlock Metal Roofing can install directly over your existing asphalt shingles in most cases, avoiding costly tear-off labor and landfill fees. This means faster installation and lower disruption—important when weather in Dexter can turn quickly with 122 km/h gusts and 2211 mm annual rainfall. Lighter load also reduces structural strain over the roof's 50+ year lifespan.
Will a metal roof reduce cooling costs or help with energy bills?
energy-efficient Interlock colors with solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny) and thermal emissivity of 0.84 reflect rather than absorb solar heat, lowering cooling demand—especially valuable during Dexter's 2892 annual sunshine hours. Metal reflects heat that asphalt absorbs, meaning your attic stays cooler in summer, reducing air conditioning load. The Cool Roof Rating Council rating backs this performance. Dexter's mean temperature of 11°C keeps heating dominant, but reflective metal still reduces peak summer heat gain, and during spring and fall transitions with 11 freeze-thaw cycles per year, lower attic temperature slows ice dam formation. Over a 50-year roof life, this incremental energy savings compounds—part of why metal roofing qualifies as CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance and resource efficiency.
What's Interlock's hail rating, and can it lower my insurance?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 rating means the roof resists impact from objects as heavy as a 2-pound steel ball dropped from 20 feet. Many insurers offer premium discounts for Class 4-rated roofs because the risk of weather damage is demonstrably lower. While Dexter's climate profile shows wind gusts to 122 km/h and 52 cm of snow, hail frequency data suggests it's not a dominant risk factor here—but the protection is built in at no extra cost. Contact your insurer with the UL 2218 Class 4 certification; some will apply a discount immediately, offsetting a portion of the material investment and shortening your payback period.
How much maintenance does a metal roof really need?
Metal roofing requires far less maintenance than asphalt, wood shake, or tile. Asphalt shingles degrade from UV and weather, requiring inspections every 3–5 years and eventual replacement. Wood shake splits, curls, and rots—especially in Dexter's 2211 mm annual rainfall and 11 freeze-thaw cycles. Tile and slate crack and leak around penetrations. Interlock's aluminum panels and Alunar® 70% PVDF coating resist chalking and fading (warranted 30 years per ASTM D4214/D2244) and won't split, curl, rot, or lose impact resistance. The Guardian Warranty covers all of these failure modes for the original owner's lifetime, non-prorated. Essentially: twice-yearly gutter cleaning and visual inspection are all you need. No sealant reapplication, no shingle replacement, no structural repairs—just a roof that performs.
What's the warranty on an Interlock metal roof, and does it transfer?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's one-time transferable to the next owner, extending 50 years from installation completion. This means if you sell your Dexter home in 20 years, the buyer inherits a 30-year warranty period, which significantly boosts resale appeal and buyer confidence. The non-prorated guarantee means you pay nothing for repairs or replacement, even in year 49, as long as the roof hasn't been damaged by neglect or improper installation. Compare that to asphalt (15–25 years, prorated from year 5 onward) or wood shake (20–40 years with heavy maintenance costs). Over a 50-year horizon, Interlock's design for zero rusting, cracking, or rot in Dexter's wet, freeze-thaw environment translates to one permanent roof instead of multiple replacements.
