Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Heather, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Prompt service and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend.
My wife and I wanted a long-term roof and I think we found it. The product seems very good and are installer Daniel was terrific and a trooper put a lot of hours and a lot of time and made it look real nice when it was completed. I would recommend the company if you're looking for a metal roof.
Ivan Excellent will make it right!!
We needed a roof repair when our neighbors tree dropped a large limb through our roof. Ivan came And accessed The damage, Ordered the sheets we needed. He came back and did the whole Repair himself. So happy to have it fixed along with his recommendations to have the roof cleaned. We appreciate his skills in repairing The roof.
The Interlock associate Ivan, came did an awesome service in correcting the part needed to be corrected, he left us with instructions of what we needed to check and to get in touch with, if needed 😀 Ms. May the associate answering the phone was helpful for us to get prompt service. They are dependable. We received roof service.
The work was efficient and well done. The service, the people and team were great. Beautiful roof.
I highly appreciate the professionalism, workmanship and the quality of materials used. I don't doubt that it will be our forever roof and will not need to worry about replacement during the life of our house. Ross, Tony, Roma were all great throughout the new roof installation process.
We noticed water spots on the ceiling. Ivan came, found a hole likely caused by a branch in the recent wind storm. He repaired the hole on the spot. Thank you Ivan!
Ivan replaced our exhaust vent on the roof that had some leaking issue. We were impressed with his professionalism, courtesy and fixing the problem to our utmost satisfaction. We certainly would recommend him and the company for any roofing issues being it a new roof or repairs.
We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.
Excellent contact and coordination with field representatives and installers/project manager.
We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Heather
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Heather, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Heather.
Will a metal roof handle Heather's heavy snow and ice without problems?
Yes — aluminum's light weight and smooth surface actually prevent ice dams better than asphalt. With Heather averaging about 60 cm of snow annually and roughly 38 freeze-thaw cycles per year, you need a roof that won't trap moisture or create thermal hot spots. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels shed snow cleanly and allow proper ventilation underneath, so water doesn't pool during those freeze-thaw swings. Snow guards are available if desired. The aluminum won't absorb water, so spring melt won't cause the wood-rot or moss growth common in wetter climates.
Does a metal roof actually keep water out in a place that gets 2300+ mm of rain a year?
Completely. Heather receives about 2305 mm of rainfall annually — well above the US average — yet metal roofing thrives in rain-heavy regions worldwide, from coastal British Columbia to Antarctic research stations. The interlocking seams are designed to shed water, not trap it. When installed over solid decking with underlayment, water runs off immediately rather than pooling. Unlike asphalt shingles, which degrade as rain penetrates and UV breaks down the binder, aluminum's oxide layer is impermeability itself. Your roof won't absorb moisture or weaken over decades of Pacific Northwest downpours.
Why don't aluminum roofs rust like steel ones do in the Pacific Northwest?
Aluminum simply cannot rust because it contains no iron — rust is iron oxide, a chemical process that requires both iron and oxygen. What aluminum does is form an ultra-thin oxide layer the moment it's exposed to air. This layer is self-healing: if a panel is scratched, new oxide instantly forms over the bare spot. Heather's damp climate and occasional coastal salt air actually make rust-proof roofing a serious advantage. Steel roofing requires regular maintenance to prevent corrosion in these conditions. Interlock's 3105-H24 aluminum alloy is marine-grade and coated with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon on both sides for extra protection — it was engineered precisely for salt air and wet climates.
If hail hits my metal roof, will it dent and hurt my insurance rates?
Interlock panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating — the highest available — and the warranty even covers hail perforation up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 rating means the panels withstand impacts that would destroy asphalt or crack clay tile. Many insurers recognize this durability and offer discounts on homes with metal roofing, since claims are rare. Unlike asphalt, which sustains cosmetic damage that becomes worse over time, aluminum's paint system remains intact. Ask your agent about metal roof discounts before installation; several regional providers acknowledge the reduced risk.
Can a metal roof handle Heather's wind gusts without coming loose?
Absolutely. Heather's typical daily winds average about 15 km/h with gusts reaching 106 km/h, and Interlock's warranty covers wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The four-way interlocking design is the key: each panel locks to its neighbors on all four sides, creating a unified system that resists uplift and lateral stress far better than nailed shingles. High winds don't peel metal roofs apart the way they can tear asphalt shingles from corners and ridges. Combined with proper fastening, the interlocking geometry means wind resistance improves as the panels age, not weakens.
Do I need to reinforce my house to support a metal tile roof?
Because aluminum weighs a fraction of what slate or tile weighs, you'll almost never need expensive structural reinforcement. Interlock's Tile profile weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft — roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile — and installs over most existing roofs without modification. This matters in Heather's climate: older homes with aging rafters can be upgraded without tearing out the existing roof or hiring an engineer for load calculations. Your foundation, framing, and fasteners don't have to work as hard, so the roof lasts longer and installation is faster. Lighter weight also means easier maintenance and fewer safety concerns during repairs.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to replacing asphalt shingles every 15 years?
Metal roofing costs more initially but is the last roof you'll buy. Asphalt shingles last 12–20 years in Heather's rain-heavy, freeze-thaw environment; you'll replace them 2–3 times in the life of an Interlock roof. The Guardian warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner, then one-time transferable for 50 years to the next owner. Over 40–50 years, a single metal installation beats three asphalt replacements plus labor, tear-off fees, and landfill costs. Regional financing now includes no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation — ask for details.
How long does an Interlock metal roof actually last, and what does the warranty cover?
Interlock roofs manufactured since 1998 are still performing in the field, and the Guardian warranty backs them with a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner — meaning no deductibles or reduced coverage as the roof ages. The warranty covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's one-time transferable to the next homeowner for 50 years from completion, which gives buyers confidence and protects your resale value. Combined with Heather's roughly 2789 hours of annual sunshine and dry periods between storms, your roof will age gracefully with minimal UV breakdown compared to asphalt in sunnier climates.
How long does metal roof installation take, and do I have to tear off my old roof?
Installation typically takes 1–3 days for an average home, depending on pitch and complexity. Because Interlock panels weigh so little — Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft — crews can often install over your existing asphalt shingles without tearing them off. This saves time, labor, and landfill fees. If removal is necessary, the process is straightforward and doesn't require structural work. Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served the region since 1997 and handles all local permitting and inspections. A site visit before scheduling confirms whether overlay is possible for your specific home.
What style options does Interlock offer, and do they all last equally long?
Interlock offers five profiles: Slate for a classic, clean aesthetic; Cedar Shingle for a traditional pitched-roof look; Shake for dramatic texture and depth; Standing Seam for a modern, sleek appearance; and Mediterranean Tile for Old World charm. Each profile is manufactured in the same roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum, so you're not compromising durability for style. Choose the profile that matches your home's character and your neighborhood's vernacular. All profiles carry the same Class A fire rating availability, UL 2218 Class 4 hail warranty, 120 mph wind warranty, and 30-year coating warranty — performance is identical regardless of how the roof looks.
